Easy Print graphics properties

$

Hi,

We're running a single 2012 R2 session host through a 2012 RTM RDG / RDWeb / RDCB. Clients are all Win7 SP1 running RDP 8.1.

The issue is that graphics are poor quality when printing through Easy Print. I can see by testing with CutePDF locally on the TS versus redirected that the raster graphics have JPG compression artefacts. The client is not happy with this.

I know that Easy Print renders to XPS and sends the XPS over the RDP channel to the client. I can see that in printing defaults for "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" you can choose between JPEG high, medium or low compression, or PNG lossless. I've set MXDW defaults to PNG. No effect.

I've examined the driver properties and found some files I can edit in notepad. I've hunted through and got quite hopeful when I located "C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnms001.inf_amd64_4fa1863520b2418e\MXDW.gpd" and edited the default option for ImageType to "PNG". THis had no effect.

I know exactly what's happening and I can't figure out how to configure it. Please can someone tell me how to make Easy Print use PNG compression instead of JPG for raster graphics.

Remote Desktop Services: corrupt system database, how to remove and start again?

Hi. This is my first Windows Server 2012 R2 installation, and I have a made a small mess. I'd be very grateful for any assistance in sorting it out.

I had some problems which I eventually tracked down to an incorrectly installed SSL certificate, but during my diagnostics, I foolishly deleted a row from a system table, thinking that if it messed up, I could always reinsert the row. Forgetting of course that I couldn't recreate the ID of the original record because it's an auto-ID field. So I realise I'm an idiot.

I logged in to SQL server using:

\\.\pipe\MICROSOFT##WID\tsql\query

and deleted a row from:

Databases/RDCms/Tables/rds.Target

and from:

Databases/RDCms/Tables/rds.Pool

Predictably enough, the database is no longer coherent and RDWeb is not working properly, and I need to remove RDS and reinstall it.

I thought that removing the RDS server role and adding it again would do it, but the erroneous data is still there.

How can I get rid of it and start from a clean slate?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Stan

Server 2012 and The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy.

We have experienced this in the past on 2008R2 servers and have resolved it by installing: kb2661332

This is occurring on Server 2012 and I do not see any hot fixes specific to this issue.

I believe we have exclusively seen this occur to users reconnecting to disconnected sessions. New users can login fine. The disconnected users cant until the server is rebooted. It appears to be erratic as to when it occurs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tested a new management console, and broke one of my web servers

Hello!

I was testing out the Wyse Device Management (WDM) on one of my servers that runs a separate IIS instance that acts as a gateway to RDS.  Well after being told that WDM can exist on another hosting IIS, I found out that it didn't play nice with my other instance.  I removed WDM and have been left with a broken web server.

Any help or places to point me are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Default Permissions on RDS 2012 R2

$

I've setup a new AD domain, and on the Domain Controller (2012 R2), I've added Windows Remote Desktop Services.

I've got the licensing installed, and things are mostly working OK. I have two questions.

1) I've logged in to a remote desktop session using a non-administrator account, but I still have permissions to do things like install software and windows update, without going through a privilege escalation dialog. Clearly I don't want my users to be able to do this. I've verified the account is a member of Domain Users, and is not a member of Domain Admins.  I've poked around the various management applications, but I just can't see this. If someone could tell me how to make the Domain Users not have elevated permissions, I'd be really grateful.

2) I've logged in, and I can pin apps to the start desktop thing. I'd like to set some defaults so my end users at least get office by default. How do I do that?

Thanks.

Disable IE Enhanced Security does not work RDS-Session Host 2008 R2

Hi there,

we have a problem with disabling the IE ESC on Server 2008 R2. It's a fully patched Server 2008 R2 Standard english. When installing the RDS-Session Host Role the IE ESC for Users was enabled. After adding the role IE ESC was automatically disabled.

When a new user logs on to the system, IE ESC is still enabled. When we Reset the IE (Advanced Tab, Reset) IE ESC is disabled for the users. But that's nothing we can deal with.

After searching the web, I found a similar Thread here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowsserver2008r2rds/thread/5bd202d3-7f77-4631-9afc-d6a8a7821c42

What I figured out:

1. When RDS-Session Host Role is enabled, IE ESC for Users is automatically disabled. Why?

2. When enabling it for users, IE ESC is still disabled. When we Reset IE, IE ESC is enabled.

3. When disabling it for users, IE ESC is still enabled. When we Reset IE, IE ESC is disabled.

I have also reproduced this on a test machine (this machine is not patched)

Any suggestions how to disable IE ESC for all users without resetting IE first?

Our custom application with handwriting is very choppy over RDS RemoteApp

Hi,

I'm using Windows Server 2008 with Remote Desktop Services to publish an application using RemoteApp. I create an RDP file for the App and distribute that to my users.

We have our own custom app. This app is designed for a tablet so the input method is a stylus on any tablet running windows OS.

The hand writing is very blocky and choppy. anyone who writes quickly, loses pieces of the stroke.

The application is using the Microsoft Ink framework.

Its like the refresh rate is not fast enough to keep up with the ink strokes of hand writing.

Does anyone know of any other tweaks I can make to the RDP session to improve performance with the hand writing?

From the parameters below, I do need bidirectional audio and to share the local drives. I'm not sure there are any other parameters that can help this situation.

I have Allow font smoothing off.

I have Smart Cards off because we do not use them.

I have the color at the lowest of High Color(15bit).

Pen input over RDS Remote App

We have a client-server application. We want to move it to RemoteApp. It is heavily reliant on handwriting using the Microsoft Ink framework.

The pen input for handwriting is very poor. We have tweaked many things but are not seeing any improvement that would make the software usable in this environment.

We setup everything with Server 2012. Windows 7/8 clients.

Any suggestions on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

RD Virtualization Host - Multiple Domains

$

Hello, we current have a full RDS deployment (Connection Broker, Virtualization Host, Web Server, etc.) in our corporate domain, serving up VDI RemoteFX VMs for our corporate users with no issues. We also have another domain that is untrusted (currently physical machines) that is used by non company users.  We want to move these machines into our VDI Deployment using our existing RD Virtualization Hosts. We are not sure how this works with multiple domains? (Can RDS serve up VMs in multiple domains?)  The new VDI desktops (and I assume so would the Thin Clients) would be in untrusted domain.  Do we need / or can we, setup a second connection broker in the untrusted domain?  Or how do we make the connection work?  I can't find much documentation on this to see how this would work.  I know in VMware View you just setup a second Connection Server, but not sure in Hyper-V/RDS world?  Anyone have thoughts on this?  Thanks!

RDS- Not in the list of authorized Apps

This is on Server 2012 R2

I have three servers setup for RDS-

Applications-RD CB, RD WA, RD GW

Applications01-RD Session Host

Application02-RD Session Host

Applications01 and Applications02 have different applications installed and when i try to access them at the same time the server which hold the application that wasn't opened first would come up with the message when trying to open an application:

"The following RemoteApp program is not in the list of authorized programs: Appname "

Is this a issue with the way the RDS or is this associated with another issue? If anyone could spread some knowledge it would be appreciated.

How do I set my resolution to 1024X768 and also keep the aspect ratio at full screen with no borders?

Hi there,

I have client with an Access 2000 database that can't be decommissioned yet on old XP box.  to make her setup more secure for now I have virtualized the XP box she now connects through RDP to the VM using her Windows 7 PC.  Her resolution is set to 1024x768  60hertz 32 bit, her aspect ratio is full screen no borders.  If she uses a KVM switch to look at her the xp box the resolution works for her.  If she vm's to the new box the access database forms are too small for her liking.  I have tried editing the RDP so that it doesn't scale and keeps a full screen using 1024 X768 resolution but so far nothing seems to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have tried editing the RDP connection in notepad using Smart size to turn off scaling etc. but so far it doesn't appear to work.

Thanks again

%CLIENTNAME% in nested RDP sessions

Hello,

Scenario: a user from USER-PC connects to Remote desktop Windows 2008 R2 server SERVER-01. In SERVER-01 for that user %CLIENTNAME% is USER-PC. After that inside this remote session he starts to work with RemoteApp from another terminal Windows Server 2008 R2 SERVER-02. And in SERVER-02 for that user %CLIENTNAME% is SERVER-01. I understand, that it should be so, but is there a way to get original %CLIENTNAME% (USER-PC) from that nested session in SERVER-02?

May be is there a way to change %CLIENTNAME% environment variable? I tried "setenv" utility, but seems it does not work with Windows 7/Windows 2008. SetX does not work with volatile environment variables.

Prevent user from closing the applications

Hello,

we would like to deploy to our users web application using Internet Explorer which is published over RemoteApps. Because this application takes long time to load we would like to prevent user from closing application. So we would like that session and application stays opened when the user clicks on close button on Internet Explorer that is published over RemoteApps.

In other words, we would like to disconnect client from RemoteApp session, but stay logged in and keep the application running in the background.

Is this possible to do?

Thank you!

Best wishes,
Marko

IOS Remote Desktop app and computers connected to SBS 2008--can't get it to work

$

I can connect directly to the server without a remote resource in the IOS app.

But I'd like to be able to connect to computers in the office like we can through RWW. RWW works fine, but not from my phone. (Yes I can connect to the server and take over computers from the phone but I don't want other people in the office to log into the server first!).

I can never get the remote resources section in the app to connect. I usually get "Unable to locate any remote resources for the URL". error in the resources section. I've tried a simple "https://remote.domain.com", "https://remote.domain.com:987", etc.

We have a self-signed certificate. I can't think of anything in the server setup that is anything other than normal.

I can do direct connect using "Remote Desktop Connection" in windows 7. In the remote desktop server settings I just put remote.domain.com and "Ask for password (NTLM)" for the login method. Then on the general tab I have just the simple computer name and the domain\username. That's all I had to setup to get that to work.

Any suggestions?

2012 R2 RDS Temporary Profile issue

$

I have set up a standard 3 node 2012 R2 RDS for testing. All virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.0. I have a connection Broker, session host, and web access server. I have published several applications and I can access them without a problem. Here is my issue:

When I try to log on to my session host server either locally or thru RDP, I am always logged in with a Temporary profile. It does not mater what user account I use. Even logging on locally as the administrator I get a temporary profile.

All windows updates are installed and current.

I have removed the server from the domain, deleted the account, and rejoined it to the domain.

I have deleted all .bak registry entries from here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

There is a hotfix here for a similar issue on 2012 but it does not apply to 2012 R2

The only event viewer errors are:

1515 (Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.)

1511 (Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.)

Any suggestions to resolve would be greatly appreciated.
