Assign IP addresses to specific devices through Virtual IP

$

I have set up a Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit with RDS turned on and enabled IP virtualization (Per session).. My question is, can I somehow configure the server to assign the specific ip addresses I have reserved to particular MAC addresses? In other words, I do not want my connections to be assigned a different ip each time I connect.. Thanks

Remote App closes when opening a dialog box...

Hello,

I've been having a recurring issue with a remote app. It involves a dialog box and a number of frustrating hours trying to solve the problem. Which brings me here. The problem is as follows:

The user is in their remote application and needs to either save a file or open a file. When the open/save dialog box appears the remote app is closed, there are no error messages so I can't say that it crashed.

If the same user is connected through rdp, executes the application in an rdp session, and tries to open/save something the dialog box appears and everyone is happy.

This really is only limited to remote app and it occurs quite frequently though not every session.

Any advice?

Remote app causes entire computer to hang

We have a Windows Server 2008 R2 server that publishes a few remote apps that my users access.  One of our sites has been complaining of issues where their PC will stop responding for minutes at a time.  They can move the mouse around but clicks don't resond.  They claim that if they close the remote app it frees up their PC.  It only occurs at this other site, and not at our main office.  The server is located offsite at a datacenter, so it is accessed remotely by both sites over an always on VPN.  Because of these factors I think it could potentially be due to their internet service there, but I don't understand why a remote app would hang up all the local processes on their machine, even if the network were to go down.

Has anyone ever experienced this before, or have a recommendation on how to fix it?  I'm completely lost on this issue and really don't know where to start.

Problem connecting to Windows 8.1 collection machines from WE7 thin clients

I have 3 VDI collections running on Windows 2012 R2. One collection is of Windows 7 machines and the other 2 are Windows 8.1.

I can successfully connect via rdweb to machines in all three collections from a PC but can only connect to the Windows 7 collection from our HP t540e thin clients with WE7 sp1.

Both the PCs and the thin clients have RDP 8.1 installed. The error message on the thin clients is “The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server administrator.”

Is anyone else having this problem?

Remote Desktop Services SSO works on some servers but not others - RDS Server

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me out there as I have been at this for 8 hours and I'm not getting any closer to a resolution.

We have 3x Servers in our Remote Desktop Services setup.  Our DC acts as the Connection broker, then we have two servers acting as RD Session Hosts.  All servers are running Server 2008 R2.  This setup was working until we restarted servers to apply updates, and now we are having some issues with SSO.

We have a TERMSRV/* entry in our allowed delegating credentials entries, which has worked in the past, and is still working to an extent.  If I try to rdp to a server, it will use my Windows credentials and SSO sign me in perfectly to all servers except the 2x RD Session Hosts (ts01 and ts02) or the farm name (tsfarm) (these will ask for credentials).

I've tried changing some GPO settings regarding the delegating credentials, and I've played with the SSL certificates installed on all, but I can't get the SSO working on these machines.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Luke

Win 2102: existing number of virtual desktops is not valid after errors while deleting , how to fix it ?

Hello everyone,

I created a virtual desktop collection with a name format like this , prefix = VDI-, suffix= 1 .

so when I created the first VMs , I had VDI-1 and VDI-2 , later after recreating the VMs, adding new ones and deleting others, the suffix numbers are no longer in sequence , like I started having VDI-1,VDI-2,VDI-8,VDI-9.

I realized I had one problem that probably caused this, because when I delete a VM , I get a warning message:

"RD connection broker could not delete the computer account object from active directory."

so I searched about that error and I added the needed permissions and now deleting seems to work without any warning.

now I have two VMs, when I go through the wizard , the first page it shows I have 2 VMs but in the second page it shows I have 11 ! is there a way to reset the count ? if I delete the entire collection and create it again , will I have any problem with the roaming users profiles ?

Thanks

Easy Print driver not working with specific HP printers.

I have a Server 2008 x64 TS environment setup for our external customers that all run the same remote application.  Reports from the remote application are created in Crystal Reports.  I use the Easy Print universal driver for printing.  I have 400+ users and for the most part, everything works fine.

PROBLEM:  Starting earlier this year, I have a very small number (but growing) of users that can't print to their local printer.  In some cases the printer is directly connected to the desktop and in others it is an IP printer.  In all cases the printer is either an HP p2035n or an HP p1102w.  The print job never reaches the printer and it generates "Error 6161" in the System event log on my TS.  In each instance I have ensured that the client computer meets the minimum requirements for TS Easy Print driver.

As I stated earlier, I have 400+ other clients with many makes/models of printers that work perfectly.  I'm not inclined to think it is a problem with my TS since so few clients have this problem.

Any thoughts?  I am happy to try solutions or provide information as I can, but it may take a little time as these devices are not in my control.  Thanks.

Hi,

is it true, what if user needs to shadow other user session on Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS he needs to be a local Administrator on that Terminal?

If yes, maybe there are plans to change that?

TS across domains & server versions

Hi

I just installed Terminal services on a Windows 2008 server and purchased Windows 2012, 5 per users CAls. Installed the Licensing manager on the same server we Remote Desktop. The licenses were validated and pass the configuration with discovery scope to the Forest. Licensing Diagnosis shows "no identify licensing problems for terminal server". Shows me total available licenses 5 CALs. When I remote to the server using 3 or even 4 connections at the same time running and specific program I get the warning Event 4105

"The Terminal Services license server cannot update the license attributes for user "accountx" in the Active Directory Domain "psl.nmsu.edu". Ensure that the computer account for the license server is a member of Terminal Server License Servers group in Active Directory domain "xxx.xxxx.xxx". If the license server is installed on a domain controller, the Network Service account also needs to be a member of the Terminal Server License Servers group.

If the license server is installed on a domain controller, after you have added the appropriate accounts to the Terminal Server License Servers group, you must restart the Terminal Services Licensing service to track or report the usage of TS Per User CALs."

Also, when I remote desktop to the server, the accounts shows red down arrow and when I create reports using TS License manager shows me 5 TS CALs Installed, 4 TS Cals in use. When I already have 3 current connections conectingto the server. Also once ins a while I get a "Blue blank screen" with no options but disconnect. When connecting again I get the same Blue blank screen until I wait about an hour and I am able to connect again, with no Blue screen.

Installed RDS on my Domain Controller Windows 2012 and tried to use the licenses from the Windows server 2008

and give me an error "Could not use license CALs  from 2008"

My questions are,

I am using the CALs or the 120 days temporary licenses.  How can I confirm?

What is this Warning error shown?

Why users show Red down arrow when accounts connecting?

Why the blue screen?

Thank you

Problems accessing 2012 Server Essentials via Remote Web Access

Hi

I have a deployed server running Server Essentials 2012 that is configured with Remote Web Access.

The server also has an application server running on the standard HTTPS port (tcp/443)

I have changed the IIS configuration for RWA to run on a non-standard port (tcp/4433) and authentication works fine.   When i click the link to access the server, the remote RDP client tries to connect to the server but comes back with an error telling me "the server address requested and certificate subject name do not match"

Upon examination of the certificate, it is actually for the application server running on tcp/443, not RWA on tcp/4433

Is there a way of manually configuring this so it connects to the correct instance ?

I tried to install the RD Gateway Manager but it appears not to work

Does anyone know how a workaround please ?

RDP connection hangs on "estimating connection quality"

$

Recently we started having trouble connecting to an RDP server (WinServer 2012) that has been working normally for at least four months now. There are about five to ten users connecting to it every day, and sometimes for some of them the connection hangs at "estimating connection quality" for a couple of minutes and then a window pops up saying "a licensing error occurred while the client was attempting to connect (licensing timed out)", sometimes it just hangs for a couple of minutes, and then connects and works normally, and sometimes a user gets disconnected from the session for no apparent reason.

The problem can go away after a server restart, or after we restart the machine that's trying to connect to the server, but restart doesn't always help, and I can't figure out the connection.

In the Server Manager under Remote Desktop Services I found an error:
"The Remote Desktop license server could not be registered as a service connection point in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Ensure that there is network connectivity between the license server and AD DS. To register the license server as a service connection point in AD DS, use ReviewConfiguration in the RD Licensing Manager tool.

We have only one server, so all the licensing is set up on the same server. In the Review Configuration window it says "The license server is registered as a service connection point..."

I spent a lot of time googling but none of the solutions I found seem to work for us

I can't figure out even to look for the root of the problem.

Windows 2012 R2 Remote FX RDSH - GPU acceleration in Session Host

$

Hello,

I'm testing the new virtualization session from Win 2012r2 with remote FX as I’ve read that r2 enable graphic acceleration in RDSH mode :)

My configuration is a physical Windows 2012 R2 with a ATI S7000 graphical card with lasted driver. I've enable user experience, RDS Session virtualization services, and configured the GPO in order to use RemoteFX (hardware compression) functionality.

Remote FX is operational, and i'm testingwww.babylonjs.com Under IE11 and I get the following result:

-If I'm logged ON the server (locally), GPU is used (Frame rate 30fps, cpu 25%), so graphical card is normally used
-If I open a RDS session on server. vGPU is used (Frame rate 6fps, cpu 100%), so graphical card is NOT used. Remote FX use vGPU to decode/re-encod 3D.
-If I fopen a local session first, launch IE and let it running. On a another computer, I connect with RDS to this already opened session: My IE 11 get RDSH GPU acceleration still working. With 30fps and cpu 29%.  Another thing, if I launch another IE in the same session, next IE is launched in vGPU mode…

It sound like, when a program is launched Windows 2012r2 select for GPU or vGPU... but how force it ?

I'm near a perfect result, but I don't find what wrong.

If someone can help.

Printer redirection using RDP ActiveX on Windows 8.1

$

am using RDP ActiveX to connect to RDP server. Printer redirection is not happening with Windows 8.1 using RDP ActiveX.

Using MSTSC application printer redirection happens properly.

It works fine with all OS except Windows 8.1.

Windows 8.1 uses ActiveX 6.3.9600.

This happens with Windows 7 also when ActiveX is upgraded to 6.3.9600

Server is not installing Easy print when RDP ActiveX is used but works fine with MSTSC application.

I tired to use the interfaces, IMsRdpClient5, IMsRdpClient7, IMsRdpClient8 and IMsRdpClient9 but did not find any success.

Any help on this will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Albin

Bug in RSAT for remote desktop on x64 computer running a x86 application

Hello,

I have install the last RSAT on a Windows 8.1 X64 computer.

My software is X86 and it use the class "IADsTSUserEx" with the files "tsuserex.dll" & "tsuserex.dll.mui"

But the RSAT forget to copy this file in "%windir%\SysWOW64" and of course of registering the class.

I have to do it manually with the 2 dll from a Win2012R2 server.

Is it possible to correct this in next updates please ?

Best regards

Outlook search fields are grayed out in RDS Farm

Hello All,

I have an RDS Farm 2008 Which I "Publish" outlook 2013 to my clients.

Everything Works just fine except one thing:

The Common Properties in the Search Field of Outlook 2013 are grayed out ( Screenshot is attached ).

I have 3 Servers in the RDS farm and it works only when the user is logged on to server number 1.All the search fields are available.

When the user logs off and reconnect to server number 3 - it does not work and the search fields are grayed out.

Here are some more details:

1. Roaming profile is being used.

2. Cache mode is disabled by policy (GPO ) - so no OST files are exist neither allowed.

3. I have already tried to delete the user profile but no luck.

4. Same version and features Of Office 2013 are installedon all the servers.

5. Windows Search Featureis installedon all the servers.

6. No accees to Drive C is Allowed - by policy ( No access to the servers C Drives  )

7. Bassically, all of my Servers are identical (or maybe not ??? )

My guess will be something with the search indexing and all that but I could not figured it out...

Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

VDI Pool Reboots

I want to be able to give a group of Users the ability to remote restart a VDI pool based on Name the of the VDI Pool.

Or

I would like users of a VDI pool have the abilty to retain the machine they just used.

We use our VDI pools as standard test machines and testers need to restart there machines and log back in. I know pernsal Desktops would do this, but I was wondering if anyone had any great ideas?

Thanks

RDS License Cal Question

$

We're in the process of migrating some of our management systems from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 to gain some of the new powershell features and remote management capabilities.

We have set up a new RDS License Server running 2012 R2 in our development environment.  We migrated our old licenses to 2012 CALs during the migration.  When I perform a licensing diagnosis, I show that we have Overused our 2008 R2 licenses but we still have 2012 Licenses available.

Am I doing something wrong?  We have to migrate our production environment soon and I want to be sure that I do this right.  From reading the Interoperability Matrix (Link), it shows that a 2012 CAL can be used to connect to 2008 R2, 2008, and 2003.  Why would the Licensing Diagnosis show BuiltInOverUsed on the capacity?

Do I need to worry about it or just make sure we have the licenses available to cover all our connections?

By the way, this seems to be the most convoluted and difficult process in Microsoft.  No one can ever seem to get the *correct* answer, more than once in a row.
