I have a Dell XPS One 2710 computer with Windows 8 at home. I also have at home  a Dell B1265dnf wireless printer.  When I remote desktop into my office computer, I cannot print.  Does anyone know if there is a bug in Windows 8 which is causing the problem? If so, will the update to Windows 8 fix this?  Thanks.

With 2012 Remote Desktop Services, what is the best way to configure each users profile, like removing Server Manager, Admin Tools from their view etc?

Remote audio via Remote Desktop connection on Windows Server 2012

Note: please read the entire description, it is not a Lync topic, this is RDP topic

Dear all,

I have a Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition. It runs Lync server 2013, and I have also installed a Lync 2013 client on it. I need to do some call quality checking, using the Check Call Quality feature built into the Lync 2013 client. I connect to the server via Remote Desktop client (remote management has been enabled on the Windows 2012 server, however no Terminal service role/feature has been added sofar).

What do I need to do, to receive the microphone and the speaker of the server to my local Windows 7 workstation, where I have attached the audio device for the actual voice input/output? Are there specific requirements for the RDP client running on my Windows 7 workstation? The Windows server 2012 is running on VMWARE, if that matters.

I have already set up the RDP connection to capture the microphone and the speaker, I have started "Windows Audio" and "Windows Audio Endpoint builder" services, but I still see the error message in the Lync 2013 client, that no audio device has been recognized.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

RDP remote computer in RemoteApps

$

Hi all,

I'm trying to set up RemoteApps but have hit a snag.

Whilst our servers and computers are managed by my organisation, we are joined to a larger institution's domain; meaning I have to send requests through them to get things like DNS records and staticIPs etc changed.

The FQDN of my server is: server_name.ad.blah.blah

but the DNS record is set at server_name.blah.blah

So to remote into the server I use the DNS record ; this works fine.

I can access RDWeb page on any machine on our network, but when I try to run a RemoteApp fromRDWeb on any computer other than the server itself, I'm met with the error "the remote computer cannot be found".

I notice that the RDP file is trying to connect to the FQDN of the server and not to the DNS record.

My question is: Is there a way to configure the RDP file to point toward the DNS record of the server rather than the FQDN? Or is there another issue I'm having without knowing?

Thanks in advance!

publish RemoteApp 2012

I would like to publish remote apps into my pool of vm's. Currently if I log on to RDweb I can see all of my published applications and my pooled desktops. However, I was wondering if there was a way to only have the pooled desktops available in RDweb and have the remote apps available in the vm's. I was able to do this in 2008 R2 by deploying the applications as MSI packages; however, this seems to not be possible now. If anyone knows of a way to do this please let me know.

Thanks,

Scott

DCOM error "1260" on Windows 2008 R2 terminal server when SAP exports data into Office 2007 (Excel or Word)

Hi all,

We are experiencing an issue which happens at random whenever a user tries to export data from SAP into Excel or Word.  Excel or Word is started but remain empty.  We then see the below errors in the event log.  And the problem is very random as sometimes all they have to do is wait 10 minutes and the next try will be successful.  Not even log off/on.  Could someone tell me what the error "1260" is saying?     thanks for your help.

Pete

Office 2010 Remoteapp and multiple documents

I have a windows 2008 r2 (3 servers) remote desktop farm with office 2010 installed.  Remoteapps are published to all the desktops with group policy.

When a user opens word/excel documents, this fires up the remoteapp on the terminal server and it works great. The problem is I've a couple of users who want to open multiple documents in multiple windows.  However opening a second document/spreadsheet only opens another tab within the same word/excel instance.

Is there anyway to get word/excel to display 1 document in 1 instance.  The setting"Show all windows in the Taskbar" makes this work in a full rdp session but not with remoteapp.

It appears this behavior was changed for Office 2013 but I cannot find anyway to make this happen with remoteapp/office 2010.

Server 2008 R2 Default Printer

I've got a strange issue.  When I log on as a Admin, my local printer is assigned as the default printer in the RD session (this is what I want), however when I log on as a non-admin the default printer is always the printer on the server and not their local printer.  I noticed this behavior when I installed Print and Document Services Role, then uninstalled it...  I checked all the Policy stuff and it's all set to not configured

(computer config | policies |admin templates | windows components | terminal services | terminal server | printer redirection:)

Any ideal what this happens???

Thanks

Kevin

Windows Server 2008 R2 - Session (ID x ) Remote Control Failed. Domain Administrator.

Hello all,

I am having an issue when trying to remote control a user session on Windows Server 2008 R2.

If I log onto the system as the domain Administrator, I am able to control the session of users. However If I log onto my own account as Domain Admin, member of the Administrator group. I recieve an error which is:

Windows Task Manager:
Session (ID x) Remote Control Failed

There are many Domain Admins in my organization - which means we can't all simply log on as the Domain Administrator to our servers.

How can I enable Remote Desktop Session Shadows on all of my Domain Admin accounts?

The current process I use is:

#

Open Task Manager

Click the Users Tab

Right Click the User - Remote Control

The error is then shown.

#

Doing this using the Administrator account work, however doing it from my account which like I say is in the Domain Admin group - does not work.

Thank you for your time.

The network connection to the remote computer was lost. Attempting to reconnect. remoteapp

RDWeb- access a folder on another server and allow cut and paste from local machine

$

I have Windows 2012 RDweb deployed and working for notepad and a custom program.

What I want to do now is to create a 'windows explorer' experience for only certain accounts to be able to cut and paste from their local desktop to the windows explorer folder.

I created a bat file that runs:

explorer \\non-rdweb-servername\folder

the folder appears successfully on the client machine when clicking the icon on the RDWEB site.  the issue is that the user can not cut and paste files from their local machine to the server folder.

I know how to make the icon only accessible to certain user accounts, and those accounts have full access to the folder.

When the bat file is initialized from RDweb, and the details are looked at, access to clipboard is checked.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

thanks.

Windows 2008 Terminal Server "user must change password at next logon" problem with Windows 7 client.

Hi,

I have a fully patched Windows 2008 SP2 Terminal Server and a fully patched Windows 7 client.

I have logged into the Windows 2008 SP2 Terminal Server server with a test account via RDC before.

When I try to log in via RDC to the 2008 TS with a test account which has been marked with the setting "User must change password at next logon" I get the RDC message "You must change your password before logging on the first time.  For assistance, contact your system administrator or technical support."  I need to force the user to change their password once it has been issued, any ideas on how this can be done?

Thanks,

Dan

We have the same problem with RDC 2.1.1 / Any OS 10.x / Windows Server 2012 RDS Farm.

We have the same problem with RDC 2.1.1 / Any OS 10.x / Windows Server 2012 RDS Farm.

Farm properties

Security layer: RDP Security Layer
Encryption level:  Client Compatible

Works fine with an Windows RDP
But getting the  Remote Desktop cannot verify the identity of the computer you want to connect to using RDC 2.1.1

Even tried using  the RDC client 2.1.2

Using CoRD works fine but we like to keep using MAC Remote Desktop Client (because it works fine with our 2008 RDS farm)

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

RDWEB IE11 Browser not supported

I have 2008R2 with RDS. I have a couple Apps on it, and almost everything is fine, except that IE11 users are getting this error:

Browser Not Supported

This Web browser is not supported by RD Web Access. RD Web Access requires Internet "Explorer 6.0 or later.

You can download the latest version of Internet Explorer from theWindows Update Web site. "

IE 11 is certainly later than 6.0.

I am not seeing anything in the forums, is there a work-around on either the server or client side?

Thx!

All of a sudden my Windows 7 x64 computer is unable to connect to random Windows 2008 R2 servers via Remote Desktop.

I can connect to the same servers from other Windows 7 machines.

The only fix I've come across so far is this, except that key doesn't exist on either my machine or on the server(s):

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService\Parameters
  3. Under this registry subkey, delete the following values:
    • Certificate
    • X509 Certificate
    • X509 Certificate ID
  4. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the server.

Does anyone have any suggestions please as I'm at a total loss what is happening here.

Thanks.
