Hello,

I get this message trying tio connect to either a Windows server 2003, 2008 or 2008 r2 (not every time).

I can fix by deleting the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSLicensingkey in regedit.

But i would like to understand why the error occurs, so i can prevent it.

Help anybody?

Mac OSX 10.8.4 Mountain Lion connection issues to RDS 2012 server with Microsoft RDC for Mac Client

Hi All,

I recently set up a new RDS 2012 server to handle the applications that will not run in our school district's Mac network.  Currently we are unable to connect to the RDS 2012 server from any Mac using the 2.1.2 and 2.1.1.  It first complains about a certificate issue as we are using a self signed certificate, but you can click through this message on the mac just like you can on a PC to connect anyway.  The certificate error is below:

"The server name on the certificate is incorrect"

After clicking the Connect button, it fails to connect with an error message saying:

"You were disconnected from the Windows-based computer because of problems during the licensing protocol"

We were able to connect to the server for about a week then all of a sudden there was no connectivity again.  I have run through every article I can find online with no luck on getting closer to a solution.  Here are some things I have attempted.

Microsoft RDC client 2.1.2 (found on some random person's Dropbox account so I don't know if it is official) no difference from version 2.1.0 or 2.1.1.

Attempted to try different applications for remote desktop access like CORD (has cursor issues where the cursor disappears) and Thinomenon (disconnects randomly with no rhyme or reason).  These are not solutions to the issue...

I have tried removing the licensing role and have moved the licensing role to the RDS box itself.  This had no effect on the error message or connection issues.

Please, Please, Please can someone help me from going bald with this issue?

Thanks!

windows 2012 rdp login credentials are not used on Remoteapp connect dialog box

2012 servers are all patched to current levels. Most of the rds services are on one vm. The rdsh server is a separate vm. We have successfully run remoteapps. I am trying to nail down multi-user issues on a desktop.

Using a windows 8 desktop logged in as a@domain.net user. On this desktop I open IE10 browser to rdwa.domain.net/rdweb and login in as b@domain.net user. I complete a remoteapp, the remoteapp is closed,  the rdweb page is logged out and closed, and the"Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\RemoteApp and Desktop Connections" is used to disconnect all connections.

Now when I log in to the rdweb page as c@domain.net user and select a remoteapp, the Remoteapp dialog box opens, I click "Show Details" and it shows that it will use the b@domain.net credentials from the previous session.

Where have I asked for this behaviour? I did ask the browser to save passwords but surely not for this purpose.

Gerald.

Block Network browsing from delivered IE 10 Remote app

I'm trying to setup some servers to deliver IE10 for a large group of users on 2012 RDS.

These servers will allow the user to go to their webmail (Yahoo, Gmail, etc) which they cannot do internally at their desk.

My problem is preventing the users from browsing to the network shares using UNC names when in the file attachment screens of these email sites.

I have already set things up so that they cannot put a UNC path in the address bar, file File Open and Save as are disabled. Policy is set to hide all drives from view and Network Discovery is disabled.

I've tried using the firewall to block outgoing traffic for IE on ports 137-138 and 445 but have not been able to get this last hurdle cleared.

What am I missing?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

1) I have setup a RDS server with all roles into 1 physical server.

2) Remoteapp can launched normally from a domain PC.

3) However, if we attempt to launch the remoteapp from a pc that did not join domain on the same LAN, the remoteapp will not launch and gives the following error : "The remote computer could not be found. Please contact your helpdesk about this error."

4) Is this normal?

Hi

Can you run a 2008R2 licensing server and a 2012 licensing server on the same domain / same environment co-existing?  The 2008R2 server dishes out 2008 CALS to 2008R2 RDSH servers and the 2012 server dishes out 2012 CALS to 2012 RD Servers?

WinXP RDP client not supporting SAN certificates?

$

Hi. We have a WS2012 RDS deployment with 2 WS2012 RDGW gateways in a NLB "cluster". We wanted to use this gateway for couple different projects, each requiring its own public DNS name for the RDGW. We bought a SAN certificate from GoDaddy with the "main" name going like gw.domain.com and SAN names like gw.otherdomain.com etc.

We imported the certificate on the RDS (along with the CA cert of course), made sure clients have the CA cert imported too and everything works. From Vista and above, I can connect using any of the RDGW names registered in the certificate. However this doesn't work from Windows XP when trying to use one of the SAN names - the connection fails with the following error: "The connection has been terminated because an unexpected server authentication certificate was received from the remote computer"

Any ideas?

Server 2012 R2 RDS and Remote App

$

Hi,

I am testing the new R2 RDS functionality, however whilst RemoteApp is working very well with the connection broker it seems that all connections are being brokered.

Is it possible to have the broker only balance the remoteapps and not the desktops? It seems to be balancing all RDP connections which means that accessing the individual server consoles is impossible as it is always connecting the open desktop connection and not allowing me to RDP to all the servers in the collection. This makes updating applications on the servers rather difficult.

Thanks,

Phil.

Hi All

Over the past week or so (after a set of Windows updates and restart) svchost.exe has increasingly used more and more memory. It probably gobbles up an extra 1GB per day and doesn't relent.

After running various diagnostics, the debug diagnostic tool finally provided me this information after a memory leak test:

rpcrt4.dll is responsible for 1.76 GBytes worth of outstanding allocations. The following are the top 2 memory consuming functions:
rpcrt4!AllocWrapper+2b: 1.76 GBytes worth of outstanding allocations.

Hello everyone,

I need to install RDS service on Windows 2012 server but i can't install it because  apparently a reboot is needed.. but no update are available..

Can't use normal or quick install..

I built another Windows Server 2012 RDS and no problem...

On the server who has the problem a KB2821895 is installed.

After a long research on internet, it seems to be a KB problem, do you agree with that?

What can i do to solve this problem?

A microsoft employee can confirm KB2821895 fails with RDS 2012??

Thanks.

Issue with using AdvancedSettings2.LoadBalanceInfo

Hi,

I am trying to use the 'AxInterop.MSTSCLib' and create a RDP Session in a C# Winfroms Application.

The issue I am facing is especially with the LoadBalanceInfo which is available in the 'AdvancedSettings2.LoadBalanceInfo', as I need to send RDP Routing information as a part of the connection request. The issue is the Connect() method just stits there trying to connect even after 10 mins.

When I try this as a normal .rdp file and open it using the "Remote Desktop Connection" available in Windows, I am able to connect.

So, I have done a network trace on both the tools the Remote Dektop Connection tool in Windows and also the request that my code was sending and I see the following difference.

Terminal Server Session dropping/resetting connections to my data server.

Hello,

I have a Windows Server 2008 that I use to host my Terminal Server. I allow about 7 sessions at one time. This server runs a software that requires a connection to a SQL database running on another Windows 2008 Server. Ever since I have started using TS in conjunction with my software, my software is giving me many errors about connection failed. Here is an example:

Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0
Communication link failure

When the software is running in a traditional network setup, not Terminal Services, everything works just fine.  So that leads me to believe that the software is fine and there must be a setting in Terminal Server that is dropping/recycling the connection to the data server.  I need to connection to my data server to remain active all the time, even if the session has been idle for 60 minutes.  Is there a Keep-Alive setting or something that I possible have over looked?

Any help or suggestions would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance.

Remote Desktop Session Error: Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again

I have a Windows 7 Enterprise x86 machine.  When I try to remote desktop to our Windows 2008 Server (SP2), i receive the following error "Because of protocol error, this session will be disconnected.  Please try connecting to th remote computer again".  It finally works on the third try.  This just started happening.  I've seen other post out there regarding this error.  I tried the hotfix some users were reporting that helped them resolve the issue but it says "The update is not applicable to your computer".  The KB is 2273487.  does anyone know how to resolve this?

Ports for Server 2012 VDI Deployment

$

I believe I'm having issues with Firewall rules causing communication issues for my VDI deployment. I can't seem to create a collection using my template because I continually receive the error, "The virtual desktop must be in a stopped state"

I've followed this article to troubleshoot and have found no solution: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/4df21734-d9b1-4c42-97d7-0c5d7bc87a24/windows-server-2012-virtual-desktop-template-issue

Additionally I have also reviewed this article (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/16164.ports-used.aspx) to open up ports.

A little overview:

I have my RDWeb and RD Connection Broker VMs sandwiched in my DMZ (firewall on both sides of the network, inside and outside). I have my RD Virtualization Host on the internal network. Ports were opened for ADDS communication from the Connection Broker and RDWeb Server to the Virtualization host. Additional ports were also opened according to the link above.

In short: I'm stuck. I can't do anything to proceed adding a managed or unmanaged deployment.

Any ideas?

Win 2008 r2 Remote Desktop Services- trying to print on redirected printer. Nothing happens and job is deleted from spooler immediately

Aloha all,

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services server. I am connecting to it from a Windows 7 machine via RDP. We have RDP licenses - per user. I can run my programs just fine - no issues. When I try to print to a redirected printer (via Remote Desktop Easy Print) - event the "Print a Test Page" option in Printer Properties - I see that the file goes to the spooler then immediately gets the status "Deleting". I get no errors in the event viewer. I can't seem to figure out why that is happening. Oh, yeah - GP to "Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first" is set to "Enable".

I do have some pretty restrictive GPs but I checked to see if any of them would cause this problem and I can't see that there is any.

Mahalo for your help.

Windows 2008 RDS User Profiles Migration to Win 2012 UserProfileDisk VHD

$

Currently we have two windows 2008 RDS servers in our AD Environment and two sets of users been granted access RD access to one of these RDS server.

On one of the 2008 RDS server users profiles are stored on the RDS server itself & on the second 2008 RDS server the users profiles are set to Roaming.

Now we are planning to deploy a full fledge Windows 2012 RDS service that would consist of RDGW, RDWA, RDSB and RDSH roles in a HA / NLB mode where ever possible.

Also in the new Win 2012 RDS deployment we will be utilizing UserProfileDisk (UVHD) i.e. a new feature of storing RDS users profile in a VHD.

Our concern now is, how do we have Win 2008 RDS users profiles migrated to Win 2012 RDSH that uses UPD VHD for storing profiles.

RDP v8.0 on Windows 7 sp1 but no USB Redirection

I have a Windows 7 Enterprise (with sp1) VM running on Windows Server 2012 running Hyper-V.

I've installed the RDP v8.0 update and assocaited hotfix on the VM but when I connect to it from a physical Windows 7 (with sp1) machine, that is patched in the same way, I'm not seeing the local USB devices being re-directed to the VM.

I've tried adding the "usbdevicestoredirect:s:*" entry into the RDP file but this doesn't make any difference.

I can see the devices listed in the local RDP client under the "Other Supported RemoteFX devices" but when I connect to the VM they don't appear. I was under the impression that the enhanced USB Redirection was a feature of RDP v8.0 but maybe I need to install the Virutalization Host role on the 2012 server in order to get this feature to work?

Cheers for now

Russell
