RDS licensing
As default only 2 users can logon to a server using RDP. How can we increase this to 7 users. What roles and features need to be installed and how do we deploy these licenses. Do we use user cals or device cals?
User CALs for Local users on a Domain joined 2016 server
We have a system that runs some inventory management software that requires local accounts for remote terminals to log into the server. (this is not software that I manage) In the past, the servers were running Windows Server 2008 and were not joined to the domain. We have finally convinced the powers that be that these servers need to be joined to our Domain if they are going to continue to run on our network, as well as the need to upgrade them to Windows Server 2016.
We have run into an issue in our Dev environment when testing to get this working. We have purchased 24 RDS User cals and added them to our existing license server. The new domain joined 2016 servers are pointed to the license server and everything works fine as long as you are logging in with an AD account. However, when logging in with a local account, we get an error message stating there are no RDS user CALs available. Running the RDS license Diagnoser as a local user shows that the Application server is looking at the license server, but is showing 0 licenses available.
I have seen others with this same scenario and the answer was it's not possible to use a license server on a domain joined computer for RDS cals for local users. The question I haven't seen answered is this:
Will it work if we install the CALs locally on the Domain joined Windows Server 2016 machine that the users are connecting to via RDS with local accounts?
GPU Support
Hi,
Is there a server version that can be installed as a Virtual Remote Desktop Server on a windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V Server which can use the GPU installed on the physical Hyper-V 2012 server? We don't want to create multiple VMs with VDI functionality.
Thanks.
Missing username and domain off corporate network
Username and domain does not automatically populate when off corporate network. We have a 2016 RDS environment with 2 RD Gateway server.
We also have a 2008 RDS environment with the same RD Gateway settings that populate username and domain off network.
Tried:
disabling Network Location Awareness on client
different settings in client RDP app
changed rd gateway policies
RD CALS Grace Period
Hello Experts
We have 2016 RD Cals Server on User Licensing. If this server goes down, is there a grace period we are offered?
and
If the RD Cals licensing server goes down, will the new user who doesn't have a license assigned still be able to login? Like in terminal server scenario or Citrix Servers
Also if the user has license assigned, will they still be able to login if the license server is still down?
Microsoft Licensing for RemoteDesktop session host server
On one server we have 60 RDP session and other 30 session license.
We are about to upgrade server OS and Would like to know about how to proceed with RDS licenses once OS is upgraded and activated.
Do we need to keep details of product ID and License server ID as same or will be authorized/renewed from Microsoft to use on upgraded server.

Error ID 1306, 1296
Hello,
I have deployed a RDS server role on Server 2016 using quick start deployment option for remote desktop services. The server is a domain member and it has RD Connection Broker, Session Host and Web Access.
I am currrently facing an issue where users are unable to connect to the server.
I was getting this in my event log:

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker.
User : DOMAIN\USER
Error: Remote Desktop Connection Broker is not ready for RPC communication.
and
–Event ID – 1306
Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user DOMAIN\USER.
Error: NULL
I would be very grateful for any help.

RemoteAPP after windows 10 update 1803 are slow and right mouse button is not responding (it reacts only sometimes)
Hi,
our workstations with Windows 10 pro are in this weekend updated to version 1803. For main system we use RemoteAPP aplications on Windows server 2012R2 (Windows server 2012R2 is full updated). After update on client station are RemoteAPP slower, and right mouse button is unresponsive, or react verly long time...
It is a big problem for us.
PS: after replace mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from older version Windows 10 is all OK. but this is not a solution.
Thanks.
Delay of 20-30secs when connecting to PCs remotely via RD Gateway
Hello,
I have an RD Gateway server (Server 2016) set up with an SSL cert issued by a public CA. All workstations on the LAN that is being accessed remotely are running Windows 10 Pro 1803. The problem I'm facing is that when I connect to any PC on the LAN externally
using RDP via the RD Gateway, the connection hangs for about 20-30secs at "initiating remote connection" before connecting. Once connected, it works perfectly fine for however long I want. The connection quality is always excellent with UDP enabled.
The event viewer on the gateway server (Terminal Services-Gateway) shows the 20sec delay between Event ID 200 (where client meets CONNECTION authorization policy) and ID 300 (where client meets RESOURCE authorization policy). Any idea as to what might be causing this? I've surfed through a bunch of forums and tried different solutions (registry edits, policy changes etc.) but to no avail.
What's bothering me more is that I have an almost identical setup at another site and I'm able to connect instantly to the authorized resources remotely via it's RD gateway server. Feel free to ask any details about the environment.
Thanks for your help!

RDS licensing server on RODC
A Server certificate is not yet installed Error
I configured RDS and seems to be working fine.
I'm getting an error that the server is not yet fully configured as a RD Gateway server then under Configuration status it says
" A server certificate is not yet installed or selected"
do I need to install a certificate?
can I get away without installing one?
will RDS malfunction if there's no certificate installed?
Thanks in Advance
CALs per user not being issued on the RDS 2016 with CB 2016
Hi everyone,
Having issues in our newly setup environment where CALs per user were installed on the licensing manager and showing up correctly. Licensing Diagnoser shows everything in the correct order. Licensing Server is being pushed via GPO and server showing up correctly by running the command on RDSH:
$obj = <g class="gr_ gr_315 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" data-gr-id="315" id="315">gwmi</g> -namespace "Root/CIMV2/TerminalServices" Win32_TerminalServiceSetting$obj.GetSpecifiedLicenseServerList()
Per User licensing mode is selected through the deployment.
Remote Sessions keep getting disconnected during the day with Event ID 40 - the reason for disconnect 0, but then reconnect within 10-15 seconds.
I've skimmed through many articles guiding the setup and checking registry keys, deployment types and so on - everything looks correct and should just work but licenses not being issued.
Hopefully, someone experienced the same and can suggest something else to try.
Thanks,
Mike
