Problem running UNC application within RemoteApp

$

I have an app that I have made available as a .rdp file using Remote Desktop Services/RemoteApp on 2008 R2.

The app is simply a UNC path to an in-house app, and after disabling IE ESC it works fine.

However, within our app is a link which starts a second app which is also just a UNC path.

If I use the Remote Desktop Connection client to RDP to the box, and I start our app via its Desktop icon, both it, and the second app called from within it work just fine.

If I use the .rdp file which I created from the RemoteApp program menu entry I can start the initial program, but when I click the link that calls the second app nothing happens.

I'm assuming I'm missing a security setting somewhere in Remote Desktop Services as it clearly works from a "dumb" RDP session, but I don't see what it is.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks.

Server event RemoteDesktopService-RdpCoreTS

Hello together.

We are running Windows 2012R2 RDS server. Server is cloud based and perform AD Domain Controller role. For past few days we received a lot of messages at EventViewer (.... RemoteDesktopService-RdpCoreTS section). By everything seems, that this are unauthorized attempts someone to access the server.

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS/Operational
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS
Event ID:      140
Task Category: RemoteFX module
Level:         Warnning
Keywords:
User:          NETWORK SERVICE
Computer:      XXXSERVERXXX
Description:
A connection from the client computer with an IP address of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx failed because the user name or password is not correct.

There is several IP addresses (5-6), for which we received this message in Event Viewer.

What we can do, to prevent this to continue to happen? We are with limited options as this is cloud based server in External Data Center, with allconsequentialbenefits and drawbacks.

Best Regards.

Remote Desktop Connection Manager 2.7 on high resolution screens

hi, i just got a lenovo yoga which has a 3200x1900 resolution screen.  rdp does not render the desktop big enough on a high resolution screen and is unusable.  I was happy to find rdcm 2.2 handles the high resolution fine. but when i upgraded to rdcm 2.7, the remote desktop is much to small to be usable again.

I have played with resolution setting in rdp/rdcm but the problem is the desktop icons are just too small.  I finally back-rev'd to 2.2

does anyone know how i can report this bug to the developer?  or if you know of a way to make 2.7 it work on high resolution screen....

thanks in advance

to be clear, the problem is that on a 3200x1900 screen, the size of the icons in the rdp session is so small its hard to read them.  if i play around with the rdp resolution, i am only making the desktop bigger or smaller, the icons are not scaling to that.  This is different in rdcm 2.2.  in 2.2, the icons are scaled up on a large desktop, making them usable.

Remote Desktop Works only after disconnecting and reconnecting the Ethernet Cable

Hi,

I have an office laptop with windows 8 installed. And I have an Office desktop with windows 7 installed.

Whenever I am trying to connect to the Desktop through Remote Desktop Connection, it throws an error "Remote Desktop cant connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons 1)..... 2)... 3)...... Make Sure....".

So I ask my colleagues to disconnect and reconnect the Ethernet Cable of my desktop and then I try again and it works.

Please let me know how to avoid this issue.

Thanks,

Hello everyone,

My company been having an issue fore the last couple days. All remote desktop connections periodically drop connections then try to reconnect. This happens when we are trying to remote into a out terminal servers and when we are trying to remote to an outside terminal server. Not sure what is going on. everything worked great up until about 2 days ago. This is on servers from 2003 up to 2012. does anyone have any ideas?

Once RDP is installed how can people from other geographical regions access it?

Ok silly question, but once RDP is installed, how can i have people connect to it from other cities/states/ etc...

Do i need a static IP address, or DNS name like www.myWebiteName.com

I'm not clear about this.

thanks,

Server 2012 R2 locking down search results ** Driving me crazy

Hello - I would like to disable the RDS users ability to perform a search with the everywhere option.  Current the users can search for things like server manager, Windows backup , etc but I don't want them to have this ability.

Here are a few of the GPO's that I have tried and didn't work:

User Configuration\Administrative templates\Start Menu and TaskBar

Remove See more results / Search Everywhere Link - Enable
Do not search Files - Enable
Do not search programs and control panel items - Enable

This GPO works but only for the Apps view

Search just apps from the Apps view - Enable

I have configured RemoteApps and setup a connection which can be accessed by clients using https://remoteapps/rdweb, but the problem is only two users are allow to connect at once.

I installed the licensing service and activated, I currently am configured for user cals.

It has if they are connecting using the remote admin clients.

This machine is Windows 2012RD and a member of a domain controller.

Live Migration of 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Server Disconnects Users w/Desktop Experience

$

We have a 4 node Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V failover cluster and amongst the VMs running on this cluster is a Windows Server 2012 R2 "terminal server".  The only roles/features installed are:Remote Desktop Session Host and Desktop Experience.

When I live migrate this VM to another cluster node, RDC users are disconnected.  This message is displayed for 5-10 seconds:

Reconnecting message

The client usually reconnects fine, but this is annoying.

I have many, many other Windows 2012 R2 servers running on this cluster.  When I live migrate any of those VMs, the RDC clients pause for 1-2 seconds (it appears to be hung), but then resumes working normally without a "Reconnecting" message.  None of the other VMs have this problem, but none of them have the above roles/features installed.

Our users don't mind a 1-2 second delay, but they are very annoyed with the 5-10 "reconnecting" behavior.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

UPDATE:

I've done much testing and determined that this problem is related to theDesktop Experience feature.

  1. I created a clean VM, installed Windows and updated it.
  2. I remoted into it, and live migrated the VM many, many times. The RDC would pause, but never display the "reconnecting" message.
  3. I installed the Desktop Experience feature, and rebooted as needed.
  4. I remoted into it, and live migrated the VM many, many times. Nearly every time, the RDC would disconnect and display the "reconnecting" message for 5-10 seconds.

Please help, thank you.

Samsung S7 and few other andriod devices not redirected in RDP session with MTP mode

Hi,

I need to have Samsung S7 to be redirected into the RDP session.
When I connect my phone to my laptop (windows 7 / windows8) I see the phone in both MTP and PTP modes on the client end. However, when I create an RDP session to another Windows 7 machine, the phone is redirected only when it is set to PTP mode. The same device fails to redirect when in MTP mode (neither is it visible in the deviec manager on the remote machine)

Also, conversely, when connecting to Windows 20008R2 server OS via RDS, the device is only visible when in MTP mode and does not redirect when in PTP mode.
Is this behavior expected? is there any particular reason for this behavior?

Server 2016 TPv5 - RDSH physical host with graphics card

Dell T620 (with proper cooling)

AMD Firepro S9000

Some background: I've been testing VDI with RemoteFX with great success in Server 2016 TPv4 and 5. Things perform well, my users are actually pleased with the performance. I now know how all of that works and that is great

My real question is, Should I or should I not be able to configure my server 2016 TPv5, with an AMD Firepro S9000 as a remote desktop session host and take advantage of remote FX through session based collections? I've set it up as best I know, but I'm getting very low FPS. In the VDI with RemoteFX example, I get 60FPS over a WAN connection. When using RDSH, I get 15 FPS which is not good.

RDS 2012 r2 collections show black screen and then close

$

Greetings,

We have just deployed two Server 2012 r2 RDS Session collections (each with two RDSH servers, and both going through the same gateway/broker server), and during testing had no issues, but as soon as we rolled it into production, our users have been experiencing black screens when attempting to log in, and the Remote Desktop window just closes (no actual login is performed).

This seems to happen intermittently, and on both collections at different times.  I thought I had solved it initially by disabling use of UDP in the RDP clients, but it wasn't a permanent fix.

Looking at the event log of one of the affected servers, There seems to be an Event ID 36 generated at every logon attempt with the following message:An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070102)

After scouring the web looking for answers, nothing came up.  Any help here would be appreciated.

YouTube HTML5 An error Occurred on Server 2008 R2

We are setting up RDSH servers running Windows Server 2008 R2.  Internet Explorer has the latest version (11) and updates.  Desktop Experience feature is installed.  They are VMs on Hyper-V 2012 R2.

When I go to YouTube, it tries to use the HTML5 player first, but it stops and says "an error has occurred. Please try again later," plus a long, random string of characters as a playback ID.  If I refresh the page, sometimes it switches to Flash Player and plays the video.

I learned that if I stop the Windows Audio service, then the HTML5 player works, but obviously there is no sound.

Why isn't the HTML5 player working in Internet Explorer in Server 2008 R2?  It works in other version of Windows, such as Windows 7.  YouTube is often part of our students' instruction, so we want it to work reliably on Internet Explorer, rather than them using another browser.

Screen flashes in Windows 2012 published apps.

Our users who use published app running from our Windows 2012 RDS servers are saying their app screen quick-flashes a few times every min.

The screen resolution on my RDS hosts is now 1920x1080.   I'd like to lower the resolution and see if the issue can be alleviated.  Where do I go make this change and how do I deliver the new lower resolution setting to the users?

Thanks.

Windows 2012 R2 RDS RemoteApp "Protocol Error"

$

One of our customer's is receiving a strange "Protocol Error" when connecting to a RemoteApp via RD WebAccess.  They are able to log into WebAccess just fine and the vast majority of the time are able to launch RemoteApps successfully.  On occasion however they receive the error below (RemoteApp Disconnected - "Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again.")

If the user immediately re-launches the RemoteApp it works just fine.

I didn't find anything relevant in the event logs.

  • Their RDS environment is all Windows 2012 R2, with three session hosts, RD Gateway, RD Broker, and RD WebAccess.
  • Affected users already have the latest Remote Desktop clients on Windows 7.
  • Affected users are both local to the RDS servers and across private WAN links or site-to-site VPN's.

Here's a key piece of information - The problem started in April after RDS and the customer's RiverBed configurations were changed to match RiverBed's recommended best practices. Basically RDS traffic began being optimized by the RiverBeds so the compression& encryption settings on RDS was turned down/disabled to allow the RiverBeds to perform this function.

I don't believe that the RiverBeds themselves are the cause of the problem due to the fact that some of the users that experience the intermittent problem are local to the RDS servers, thus their traffic is not going through the RiverBed appliances. I suspect that the so called "Protocol Error" may be related to encryption or compression in RDS but I haven't been able to narrow it down. This conclusion is more due to the fact that the problem started after making the compression & encryption change and not really because of any specific evidence pointing in that direction.

I had suggested to the customer that we reverse the RDS compression & encryption settings (one at a time) as a test to try to narrow the problem. They are reluctant to do this however because making these changes in RDS and the RiverBeds in April made such a dramatic difference in their overall performance - they don't want to go backwards!

I am considering using WireShark to sniff some packets, but because the problem is so intermittent (it can be days between errors) and the fact that I don't know what "protocol" is causing the problem, it is likely to be difficult to come up with a decent enough filter to grab useful data. It would be like drinking out of a firehose!

Anyone else ever see this error? Anyone?

Connect RD Connection Broker to SQL

$

Hello I'm not being able to install RD Connection Broker with High Availability.

The RDS deployment consists on two servers running win2012

server1 - RDWA and RDG

server2 - RDSH and RDCB

The SQL server 2012 that I'm using is installed on server2 itself and had to be installed after the RDS otherwise the SQL installation failed and had to be done using the RD-install. It's working fine , I've applications that run on it.

As when configuring RDCB HA "both" RDCB hosts access directly to the SQL DB to create a new database, their accounts need to be authenticated as a SQL login with dbcreator role.

1 step: I checked a straight forward installation_

Installing and Configuring RD Connection Broker High Availability in Windows Server 2012

Failed

2 step: I checked an installation where my problem happened.

I checked RD Connection Broker HA – SQL Permissions
Added the host to a domain group and added the group as an SQL login, SQL authentication failed.

4 step: Google for how to create SQL login for a computer account and  I added it by executing:

“CREATE LOGIN [MyDomain\MyComputer$]FROM WINDOWS”

Also tried to use Add-ADcomputerServiceAccount without success.

3 step: I ended here

Taking a closer look at RD Connection Broker High Availability in Windows Server 2012

Where I verified that none of the following explanations were correct:

  • The SQL Server Native client is not installed
  • A firewall is blocking SQL Access from the RD Connection Broker (port 1433)
  • The incorrect SQL Server Native Client version is specified
  • An incorrect SQL Server name is specified

I tried several variations of the string to use but this is the one I think it's correct:

DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 11.0;SERVER=WIN2012-1;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Remote Desktop Services Connection Broker;Database=RDCB

The error registered on SQL is:

"Message
Login failed for user 'RDS\WIN2012-1$'. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided. [CLIENT: <local machine>]"

I tried to connect via ODBC with an existing username an it succeeded.

The problem seems to be with the computer account not existing as an SQL login...the thing is that it exists.

I need to set this up in order to be able to change the RDCB FQDN to a public FQDN.

How were you guys able to overcome this? Did you faced this at all?

Thanks,

David

RDS Connection Broker database bug

$

Hi I am having an issue with our RDS server the connection broker database RDCMS is filling up the logs and bringing the db down. It's a windows internal database even though it's in simple mode it wont truncate the logs. When I do a checkpoint I'm getting a failed to flush the commit table to disk in dbid 5 error.

I found that it's known issue and patched in SQL. However since it's a WID I'm not able to fix it this way. I searched for a windows update on this but have not found it.

I've had to restore the database a few times from our backed up VM and recently was able to manually increase the logs to buy time but needing a fix for this issue.

Is there a Windows update that I missed or what is the best way to resolve?
