Hello. I have an x64 Windows Server 2008 Terminal Server running Office 2007 Professional. When my users try to send a fax it points them to the Windows Contacts folder and not the Outlook Address Book. Outlook is set to the default for everything in Default Programs. Ths feature works fine on our Vista machines, just not on this server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to see desktop with Windows 2012 RD Web Access

RD Web Access is only allowing us to create collections of apps to access remotely. We cannot figure out how to set it up so that users just login to a desktop as they would if they connected with the RDP client.

RemoteFX display adapter is "Unknown Device" on Windows Server 2012 client

I already have a Windows 8 Enterprise VM running with the RemoteFX display adapter so the RD Virtualization Host is configured properly. But now I have the Windows Server 2012 Standard client VM whose display adapter reports as a "Unknown Device", the hardware ID's are reporting it as the RemoteFX display adapter but no driver for it. I also put in the Integration Services Disk Setup, and it did perform an update to the Hyper-V integration. All Windows Updates are installed on the Virtualization Host Server, as well as the Server 2012 client.

Does Windows Server 2012 Standard not support a vGPU?

The documenation here is incomplete about this subject: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/11/26/remotefx-features-for-windows-8-and-windows-server-2012.aspx

User profiles overwritten with new ones after rejoining domian

We had a hard drive failure on this RDS server and after we replace the drive and the raid was rebuilt the server lost its trust relationship with the domain. We had to remove it from the domain and re-add it. We thought everything was fine until the users logged back in. Since we rejoined the domain it created a new profile. But the old profiles are no were to be found. It is like the new one overwrote the orignal. In the past we have seen a second profile folder created. Any one ever seen this?

Thanks

Slow Printing on RDS on Server 2008 R2

We have resently upgraded from a 2000 Terminal server to a 2008 R2 Remote desktop Server. The clients are running XP Pro and have SP3 installed and .net Framework 3.5 SP1.

Users are complaining that printing is very slow on the new system and there is a noticable difference when printing.

We are using the Windows Easy Print to redirect users printers, we do not have any drivers or printers installed on the RDS itself as we want to soley use Easy Print as we have a number of home users all with different printers and most do not have 64bit drivers available.

I have disabled TCP Chimney Offload, RSS and Receive Windows Auto-Tuning Level on the server but this has had no effect.

Please can you advise on the best course of action to improve printing speeds.

RDP Issues

I'm new to RDP and setup a windows 2012 server.  I need to get this done this week for my client and I am having problems.  I was able to install all the RDP roles on it even though it's a DC.  The client can only afford one server.  I am able to goto my serveraddress/rdweb and login and run the remoteapp from the server itself.  However when I try this from a client I can login but when I try to run a remoteapp I get the error 'RemoteApp Disconnected'.  It does not give a detailed description on why this error is occuring.

Though I know microsoft doesn't allow a RDP on a DC I don't think that is the issue since I can do everything fine right on the server.  Does anyone have any advice?  I just started a support call from Microsoft so I can update here with that as well.

If I cannot do this with Windows Server 2012, can my User RDP licenses that are purchased be used on Windows Server 2008?  The licensing server is installed but I did not put the liceneses in yet since it said I had 120 days before I needed to do this.

How is user data across multiple User Profile Disks retained?

Since UPDs are per-collection, I am wondering what happens to the user data in these disks. Is it synchronized back to their centrally stored profile somehow? What do we need to do to ensure users to not lose data in disparate UPDs?

Serial Port Over RDP Extremely Slow

$

Hi there,

I'm having an issue that I could really use some help with - I've been searching the internet for days with no clear answer.

Here is the scenario:

I am trying to use a signature capture pin pad for my point of sale software. The pin pad driver creates a virtual COM port. When communicating with the local computer directly, it works absolutely fine - communication is very quick. When I do an RDP session to a local server and share the COM port, there is also no problem - communication is very quick. However, once I try to reach a remote server and share the COM port, the communication is terribly slow and more often than not, the POS software ends up timing out. I have tried using an RDP session to the remote server over the WAN IP address of the server and using a VPN connection to it's local IP address, but both produce the same slow results.

I'm using a Windows 7 (also tested with Windows XP) client connecting to Server 2008 R2 Server with remote desktop services. I made sure that all windows updates are installed to latest version. I also checked with the hardware manufacturer of the pin pad and I have the latest device drivers. I also tried using a different serial pin pad (not using virtual com port drivers) but had the same result, so I don't believe it's a driver issue.

I've seen that slow COM port redirection seems to be a fairly common issue, but I don't see any clear resolutions. Any help you can provide would be great! Thanks!

RemoteApps Server 2012

I'd like to add the RemoteApps (Office 2013) from our 2012 server to our current RD Web Access site (Server 2008 R2).  I've already setup the RemoteApps on the 2012 server and added the 2012 server to the RemoteApps sources on the RD Web Access site (2008 R2) but the applications are not available.  Is this possible?

Thanks

Win 2008 r2 Remote Desktop Services- trying to print on redirected printer. Nothing happens and job is deleted from spooler immediately

Aloha all,

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services server. I am connecting to it from a Windows 7 machine via RDP. We have RDP licenses - per user. I can run my programs just fine - no issues. When I try to print to a redirected printer (via Remote Desktop Easy Print) - event the "Print a Test Page" option in Printer Properties - I see that the file goes to the spooler then immediately gets the status "Deleting". I get no errors in the event viewer. I can't seem to figure out why that is happening. Oh, yeah - GP to "Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first" is set to "Enable".

I do have some pretty restrictive GPs but I checked to see if any of them would cause this problem and I can't see that there is any.

Mahalo for your help.

Users cannot RDP into Server 2008 R2 server unless their account is added directly to the local administrators group

During deployment of a new application, we have been running into strange issues trying to run processes with certain domain accounts. Looking through the machine settings the only difference we could see between the affected accounts and accounts that work is that the affected accounts are added directly to the local administrators group and the accounts that work are added through AD security groups.

Seeing this i decided to mess around with the account membership of the local administrators group. I found that if i place the account into an AD group that is a member of the local administrators group the account can no longer connect to the server through RDP (after a reboot of the server); however I can connect to the server locally and do indeed have full administrator privileges on the server. If i move the user back to being defined as a direct member of the local administrators group I can RDP again. All accounts are domain accounts; some accounts work and some accounts do not. All remote desktop settings are default including Local Security Policies.

Works

  • Local\Administrators
    • Domain\AffectedAccount
    • Domain\UnaffectedAccount
    • Domain\Group
      • Domain\UnaffectedAccount

Does Not Work

  • Local\Administrators
    • Domain\Group
      • Domain\AffectedAccount

I believe this issue affects more than just RDP, however this is a pretty obvious condition produced by the underlying issue.

My initial thought point to how the machines were provisioned. We clone out machines through VMware 5.1 and do not perform sysprep on the machines after cloning. After researching this further it appears that sysprep is indeed not required but still recommended.

Searching around for a couple days has not yielded any useful results. There is also nothing useful in the event logs of the server.

Has anyone encountered this issue before?

using mstsc activex control, there is a phenomenon in which the loss of information during the connection string in the domain of PC, which is Join to Active Directory.

    Hello.
I have created an RDP-control based on this article:
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/43705/Remote-Desktop-using-C-NET

By applying this code, I've created a remote desktop client.

To when connecting to PC that you use this client, has been Join to Active Directory

Part of the string information of domain are lost.

We have to ensure that the string of the domain that was set up just before the connection is normal during debugging.
However, after the connection, because the domain part of the string had been cut
Error comes out suppose that you have entered the information account that was in error during connect to the PC.

Environment OS that were tried are, is the Windows7 Ultimate 64Bit.

I I think with the you want to know which either from the factor.
I want to know a solution if possible.

    Remote Desktop Services Printer Redirection

I was start the Remote Desktop Service with 5 Cals license in Windows Server 2008. And the printer redirection service is started.
(Primary, I am using RemoteApp Service)
When I am using Computer A to log-on, the default printer could be redirect. But when I am using Computer B to log-on again, the default printer could not be redirect. And the event ID is 1123.
After I was log-off Computer A, and then using Computer B to log-on. Computer B's default printer could be redirect. And then, I am change to Computer A to log-on, the default printer is not work, the event ID is 1123.
That means, I could using the printer redirection feature on 1 remote computer only. But I have 5 Cals license already.
    Anyone know the reasons?

And It's 2 different account, 2 different computer, 2 different network (Not in Same Intranet).

Install Remote Desktop Services Failed on Windows 2012 Server

I understand RDS is not recommended on DC due to security consideration.  However since I want to play it at home, it is not much a concern.  Such scenario works fine on Windows 2008 R2.  But on Windows 2012, the RDS (session-based, have not tried VDI, but expect same result) installation always fails and is incomplete on DC.

In \Administrative Tools\Terminal Services, I only have RD Licensing Diagnoser and RD licensing manager.  The remote desktop service management service cannot be started (Error code: 0x88250001).  Is there any extra configuration needed for RDS working on Server 2012 DC or before the installation?  Thanks.

    Configuration

    SBS 2011 Server

Windows 2008 R2 server with Remote Desktop Services installed, License Manager installed.

WYSE WT3125SE thin clients with Windows CE 5

I setup the Windows 2008 with Remote Desktop Services and was able to successfully connect the Thin client.   Then I installed the License Manger and applied my Open license using User Cals.  Was able to login.  Next day I get the following error-"Because of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer.  Verify that you are logged onto the network and then try connecting again"    I still can connect fine from other machines even Windows Home Ed.   I remove license server and still was unable to connect.   Built a second Windows 2008 R2 server with RDS on it.  Was able to connect without issue.   Pointed it to the first RDS server license manager and have still been able to connect with the Thin Client.   The thin client can rdp to the SBS server without issue in admin mode, can connect to RDS2 server but not RDS1 with the license manger.    So my issue is with the license and so my question is what is it with the license server running on that server that is keeping thin client from connecting.  I even did a reload of RDS1 and tested connecting throughout the process and it worked up until I applied the license and then it stops. And then if I uninstall the license, rds, remove from domain still not able to connect.  Any help would be appreciated.

    WS 2012 Apps not displayed

    Hello,

we applied a "Hide these specified drives in My Computer" on drive c: GPO for the users on a WS 2012 RDS.  Now only very few Apps are displayed on the Start screen of the users. Adobe Reader wich is installed on drive c: or for example the calculator are not displayed, searching doesn't work either. If we disable the GPO all apps reappear and searching works. We would very much like to apply above GPO setting. Is there a way to solve this?

Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0 update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (KB2592687) breaks context menus (right-click and ribbon dropdowns) for RemoteApp Office 2010

Within a day of installing update KB2592687, I had reports of context menus appearing for a fraction of a second then disappearing on RemoteApp session with Office 2010 applications, including Outlook, OneNote, and Word.  On most clients, this problem was not observed at the beginning of a session.  The delay varied from minutes to hours.  Based on internet searching, this appeared to be an office plug-in or install corruption issue.  After repairing Office, modifying registeries, reinstalling Office, and deleting user profiles, I tried removing the KB2592687 update, which only seemed related to the problem because of when it was installed.  Removing KB2592687 appears to fix the problem, based on the last 24 hours.  No one else seems to be having this problem, or they haven't discovered this new cause.

2008R2 RDS with Roaming Profiles often gives Event ID 1060

    $

I have a terminal server farm (running RDS on 2008R2) which is configured using guides and best practices from various Microsoft sources. I notice nothing wrong with the server farm when using it myself, but many regular users often (but not always) get logged in with temporary profiles (default profiles) instead of getting their roaming profile downloaded and applied. To alleviate this somewhat, I've applied folder redirection (which works flawlessly) for some important folders like the Desktop, and GPOs to make sure all users always get the correct printers and whatnot.

However, I would really like to fix the actual problem instead of trying to work around it, but as the only error given is a 1060, there is really no proper clue as to what the issue really is.

Now, before some of you redirect me to the article pertaining to Event ID 1060, YES, I've read it. None of it applies to my system. The file server (and session broker) hosting the profiles (and the redirected folders) is properly set up, the profile and redirected-folder shares both have best-practices permissions and folders get created correctly for new users. There is definitely no network issue (the farm is running in a VMware cluster in which every other 2008R2 server has no issue whatsoever), and all users get the same and correct path to the roaming profile share through a RDS GPO applied to the server. It is also not a permission issue since folders get created correctly for new users, both the roaming profile share and the redirected-folders share have the same permissions and the folder redirection never fails.

When I log in (as an administrator), I ALWAYS get my roaming profile. I have NEVER gotten an Error 1060. I have also tested with a freshly created regular user and get it's roaming profile 99 times out of 100. But MOST users get their roaming profile maybe 3 times out of 10, which is insanely frustrating as it pops up a "you have been logged in with a temporary profile" tooltip and litters the Event Log of each server in the farm with 50-100 1060 errors daily that are, as far as I can tell, completely lacking a logical reason. They manifest as an error for the user, but there is NO reason why this error should appear in the first place on this system.

Any help in troubleshooting this would be most appreciated, as I've read pretty much everything on the subject and have fought with this for several months trying different approaches, but still being nowhere closer to a solution or even a plausible explanation, since everything is correctly set up and none of the MS-suggested reasons for the 1060 error have proven applicable in this case.
