Distinguish the connection/disconnection event on the remote machine

$

I’d like to distinguish the status between Remote Desktop Connection and Remote Desktop Disconnection.

For example I remote “ComputerC” using “userA” on “ComputerA”.

Then without logoff “userA”, I remote “ComputerC” using “userA” on “ComputerB" directly.

At this moment, I look for the events of “RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS” on “ComputerC”.

The first event is accepting the TCP connection (The id is 131), this event is raised when  I remote “ComputerC” using “userA” on “ComputerB"

But after this event, there is a disconnection event (the id is 102), and this event is raised when ComputeC closed the connnection of "userA" connnections from ComputeA.

Now I use the task plan to tell my server who is disconnected by the different event id.

In this example, actually “ComputerC” is connected.

But I received the message is disconnected, because the disconnection event happened more later.

Are there some good ideas to know connection/disconnection?

Thank you for your help.

RDSH, User Profile Disks, and Remote Desktop Roaming Profiles

I have a 2012 RDSH collection configured to use User Profile Disks.   Some of my users are configured to use RD Roaming Profiles through Active Directory, as we maintain a Windows 2003-based Citrix farm for many applications.

How can I specifically disregard the RD Roaming Profiles on my 2012 RDSH collection?  I'm having issues with users logging off and having things hung in the VHD file, then, on subsequent logons, getting a temporary profile.   I can see that when they get the temp profile, the system is not mounting the VHD (I'm looking using mountvol from another session).

I've tried "use only local user profiles" and "Preventing roaming profile changes from propogating to the server", but that didn't work.   (I think those are related to windows roaming and not rd roaming profiles anyway, though I could be wrong.)

I've considered adding a mandatory profile and then using the user profile disk to store all of the settings that it wants, but I'm not sure if this would work.   Anyone know if that would work, or would it still be mandatory and throw away the info in the UPD each logoff?

Any help would be appreciated, as it appears to me that User Profile Disks are the most poorly documented technologies Microsoft has introduced, and I'm out of ideas.

VDI and Multi-Tenantcy (Hosted)??

Just curious how others are doing it?

To my knowledge:

  1. Microsoft prohibits SPLA licensing for Windows 7. Each client has to buy a separate Windows 7 license and provide hosting provider with the license info. You cannot buy\resell“rent” the license nor buy on someone's behalf.
  2. Microsoft prohibits two customers from sharing the same server resources when accessing hosted virtual desktops; cloud providers must dedicate a server for each individual VDI customer. This means you need to have separate physical servers for EACH client.

To me it seems without significant investment in hardware and licensing, the answer is likely going to be terminal services on Server 2012 (skinned as Windows 7 or 8) and using InTune. I have to learn more about how this might work though and the pitfalls with end user experience especially with USB device redirection, multimedia, etc.

Does anyone know how companies like Desktone legally provides Windows 7 virtual desktops? Seems like there wouldn't be much of a profit margin after meeting all the compliance.

Hyper V 2012 Windows 8 Enterprise VDI RemoteFX video issue

I have setup my new Hyper V test box and have created multiple VM's with Win 8 pro without issue.  Most importantly I am testing remotefx and realized that I needed to use Win 8 Enterprise to get the physical GPU to be allocated to the VM.  Now that I am testing the Win 8 Enterprise with Remotefx I am getting random black screens or disconnects via rdp.  This only happens on Win 8 Enterprise. I have built 3 win 8 enterprise vm's from scratch to make sure I did not due somthing wrong in the build.  All systems are fully patched with the latest integration software too.

I am using a an NVIDIA Quatro 2000 with drive 9.18.13.1090 that I downloaded on Dec 31st.

Thank you

Windows Server 2008 R2 RDS Prinetr Redirection Issue

I donot have much knowledge about the RDS. I have a client who has two RDS servers. 3 Prinets are shared via Workspace. Whenever I am connecting to RDS server via RDP client my local prinetrs redirected sucessfully and I can see all redirected prinetrs on RDP session. But whenever I am going manually into the server (HOST) I didn't found any redirected prinetrs in the printer wizard ( If I am right whenever any user connect with RDP and if prineter redirection is enabled than a redirected printer must be created on host also) Please correct me if I am wrong?} If I am right then why I can see on redirected printer on RDP session but not HOST.

RDP Cannot connect to server after configuring custom certificate.

Hello!

I had configured custom RDP certificate as it is written in this post: (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2010/04/09/configuring-remote-desktop-certificates.aspx).

I used certificte template propagation via group policy editor in my AD domain.

Certificate configured to use "Server Authentication" Application Policy.

After session host computer applies new policy, when I try to connect to the server under Windows Server 2012, client throws "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again... or contact your administrator".

I tried to connect either from win2012 or win 7 clients and they are getting this same error.

All clients has installed RDP 8.0

on client EventViewer I see theese TerminalServices-ClientActiveXCore Information records:

Event ID 1026 - "RDP ClientActiveX has been disconnected (Reason= 2308)"

Event ID 1105 - "The multi-transport connection has been disconnected."

Event ID 1026 - "RDP ClientActiveX has been disconnected (Reason= 8199)"

Event ID 1105 - "The multi-transport connection has been disconnected."

on server System Log i see theese SChannel Erros:

Event ID 36888 - "A fatal error was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. the TLS protocol defined a fatal error code is 40. The Windows SChannel error state is 1205."

Event ID 36874 - "An  TLS 1.2 connection request was received from a remote client application, but none of the cipher suites supported by the client application are supported by server. the ssl connection request has failed."

How to resolve this problem? Any ideas?

Windows 2008 R2 Remote desktop licensing problems

Hi, i have a server with remote desktop and remote desktop licensing installed and activated, and another server with remote desktop installed and pointing in the remote desktop session host configuration to the licensing server. If i do a Diagnostic informs that there are no problems:

Licensing diagnosis did not identify any licensing problems....

I see the number of license installed on the license server but if i try to connect to rdp i get a error with the following message:

The remote sessions was disconnected because there are no remote desktop license server available to provide a license.

Clarified that thefirewallis disabledon both servers.

Also, i have event id 1130:

IP Address Virtualization

$

I am currently building a farm of RDSH Computers running Windows 2008 R2.  Due to auditing requirements I need to have traceability for any web browsing conducted on these systems.  Our Web Filtering Service only logs and audits via the source IP address of the web request and therefore cannot differentiate between user sessions on the same computer by default.

I thought I could get arouind this by using IP Address Virtualization, but it isn't working as expected.  The Remote Desktop Session Host successfully allocates the Virtual IPs to each user session as expected (I have the pools configured statically within the registry of each RDSH as I cannot put a DHCP Server on the LAN the User Session are presented over).  However, when I check IE usage using TCPMon and our Web Filtering service, all traffic is using the statically-assigned IP Address of the User session NIC and not the assigned virtual IP.

OK, to help you all out and hopefully come to an answer, here's my configuration:

First and foremost, the RDSH are physical tin and I do not have any Teaming Software in use.

I have two interfaces on each RDSH: one for User Session connections and a back-end one onto the Data Centre LAN.

The Data Centre LAN has the DNS Server adresses added, but no Default Gateway and registers the host's DNS record.

The User Session Interface has the Default Gateway defined but no DNS servers, and it is this one that has IP Address Virtualization.

I'm using a Connection Broker and Load-balancing via DNS Round-Robin.

The network configuration is otherwise good and I'm getting excellent responses to all requests, considering I only have 1 Gb of network bandwidth to play with and I've load tested the system up to 100 connections so far.   I need the second interface as I will have to use App-V on the systems; we have a broad swathe of end-user applications, some of which cannot co-exist on the same Operating System installation and I don't want to go down the road of Departmental RDSH silos.

I've tried the latest NIC Driver (and then the previous one) from the manufacturer as suggested in several other posts, and followed various recommendations.  However, from what I can see on all the other posts, others appear to be getting the issue that a Virtual IP Address isn't being assigned.  I'm getting the address assigned, it's just that IE isn't using it.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get around this?

Server 2008 R2 - User Permissions for Application Compatiblity Mode on TS

$

Hello,

I have an application (Acrobat 8) running on my 2008 R2 Terminal Servers that runs, but randomly throws fatal errors. As part of my troubleshooting, since it's an older app, I wanted to try running it in XPSP3 compatibility mode for all users to see if that helps at all.

I can set acrobat.exe to run in XPSP3 mode and it will run logged in as an Administrator, but when I log in as one of my TS users, I get UAC-style prompts that require authentication to run the program.

Running Process Monitor and attempting to run as a TS user gives me only two access denied errors for the TS user, on these files:

  • C:\Windows\Installer\<guid>\_SC_Distiller.exe
  • C:\Windows\Installer\<guid>\_SC_Acrobat_Standard.exe

Before I give TS users access to those files, I wanted to see if there were any special permissions that should be set anywhere just as a result of using application compatibility mode on a terminal server. The TS users are currently just members of the Users and Remote Desktop Users groups.

Thanks in advance,

John

RDP Terminal services printing problems 2008 R2

$

Really new at this, so I'm sure it is just a configuration problem. We have single server running 2008 R2 with (5) C.A.L.

All computers are connected locally with the exception of (1) which connects thru RDP Terminal Services.

They log off every day, and when they log back on in the morning, their printing comes thru one of the local printers here at our location instead of thru their home computer. They have to go back and set their computer printer up daily as the default printer to prevent this from happening. How do I correct this so that even when they log in to server, their printing continues to go to their default Windows printer? Their O.S. is Windows 8 Pro.

Thanks

Does anyone know an iPad app that can open RemoteApp on server 2012 (may be present icons in a similar way to the RD Web Access, where a user can pick one from the list) and that definitely works through RD Gateway 2012?

Thank you in advance

Dedicated Redirector question

Hi there

If you have an RDS deployment with dedicated redirectors in the (session host) farm, accessed via a connection broker

should the dedicated redirectors have the remoteapps installed on them (i.e. the same remoteapps that are installed on the rest of the session host RDS servers)

Cheers

James

Mulitple Pooled VDI desktops using Windows Server 2012 VDI Redirection

$

Hi,

I am currently in the process of rolling out Thin Clients and wondering if there is away to have multiple Redirection Connection brokers.

I currently have a High availability Connection broker configuration using a VDI pool and configured the registry to redirect to the pool Virtualpool1.

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServ  er\ClusterSettings

DefaultTsvUrl  tsv://VMResource.1.Virtualpool1

Is there anyway to configure multiple connection broker farms or redirectors so I can have a address for each VDI pool.

I am aware that you can modify RDP files to launch a VDI pool.

in addition to this, is there an way to load a RDP session /VDI pool from the login screen of a Windows thin PC so that users can have a SSO experience.

Best Regards,

RDS SSL Wildcard Cert?

I had a fairly basic question around SSL certificates and using a wild card.  RDS was fairly straight forward to setup but SSL certificates are always confusing so I wanted to ensure I set this up correctly.

We have 4 servers (Broker, Gateway, Host and Web) setup for RDS and we would like Single Sign On to work both internally and externally over the WAN. How does authentication work?  Will just a normal SSL certificate work? I readwe need to use a wild card SSL certificate?  Then add the names of each of the internal RDS servers and the external/WAN domain name to the certificate?  Or is the setup different?

Something like this?  Does the $200 dollar one work?

Server 2012 an error occurred in the service broker manager error 3602 state 145

I've installed the RDS Broker  on Server 2012. However in Server Manager, I'm not offered the option to configure. Instead it says, A Remote Desktop Services deployment does not exist in the server pool. Also on the event logs I have An Error Occurred in the service broker manager, error 3602, state 145.

The only portion of RDS that I need on this sever is the RDS Broker. I need some ideas here.

thanks, Amy

Windows Server 2011 Essentials - Remote Desktop Services Question

Hello, I have recently purchased SBS Essentials 2011 for our organization. We have TS Cals from 2008 which installed fine in the license manager and show they are there.  However in the Remote Desktop Sessions host the licensing diagnostic says 0 are available.  What would be the reason why? We are limited to two connections to the server.

Thanks,

Toby
