Basic theme corrupt, black boxes in apps when connected
Hi....
On one of our Windows 2012 Remote Desktop Host servers we have the following problem.
--Not working example:
-- Working example:
---
So black boxes all over the place. When I troubleshooted this as admin I found that switching the theme to "Windows" under Windows standard theme made the black boxes go away. But switching to the "Windows Basic" them makes them appear again.
So:
-- How do I fix the basic theme? As this is the theme regular users uses and they have no option of changing theme. RemoteApp technology is used.
-- Or possibly, as I think it works fine with the "Windows" theme, how do I apply this to all users logging in to the server?
Also, I have tried to find a solution on this on the forum, the internet and be general troubleshooting. No errors in the event log in Windows......
Looking forward to hear from you. Thank you in advance.

Windows 8.1 Pro cannot log into RemoteApp running on Windows Server 2012 R2
I have setup a vm running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and have enabled multiple RemoteApps. Everything is setup correctly and I can use RD Web Access to access the portal and connect to the remoteapps from any computer except my own. I am running Windows 8.1 Pro and when I log into the RD Web Access portal, click on one of the apps, it looks like it's loading the session, but gets stuck on Preparing Windows. Everything else up to that point looks like it loads correctly, (i.e. - Applying Group Policy Settings, applying desktop, etc...). When I log into my Windows 7 dev machine, I can access and run everything just fine. So there must be something between the Windows 8 and 2012 that isn't working quite right.
I have tried logging into the portal as myself and test users...same result.
any ideas?

Prevent adding tasks to task scheduler
I'm trying to prevent users from creating tasks in task scheduler. There is a GPO item named "Task Scheduler - Prohibit new task creation" but it is only applicable to Windows 2003/XP.
Does anyone know how to deal with this issue when using Windows 2008 R2 RDS?
Thanks in advance,
Sander.
Remote Desktop Gateway does not work with a particular customer network.
Hi.
I have a Windows 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Gateway solution configured and everything works for everyone from outside but a specific customer network.
My question is, what could this customer have configured in the Firewall for blocking this Https 443 connection. They are able to login to the RDWeb page on our Remote Desktop Gateway solution but when they click on a remote app it just say starting. If the
customer use another network it works.

Why are there no servers listed in the Add RD Session Host Servers dialog
I was asked to get a cloud server for a client's customers to log onto in an emergency, i.e power failure, theft etc.
I installed all the commensurate roles. I am at the above mentioned dialog and it is NOT populated. WHAT populates that?
I have licensing installed and five user Cal's ready to go and installed. I keep getting there are no licensing servers to handle the request. from any remote trying to connect to it
Any help would be HIGHLY appreciated

2012r2 RDS Farm User Temp Profiles problem?
Hi All,
I have a 5 server RDS farm with 5 session hosts. 2 of them are also session brokers in HA mode. The desktop collection is setup to use user profile disks over a network share to another server.
What I have noticed is that when a user logs in they are prompted for the usual username and password which they enter, they are then prompted again for thier logon credentials wich they enter a second time and then recive a "User profile cannot be loaded" error and are logged off.
I have a policy set to not allow temp user profiles, which is why they are logged off and that is fine.
What I can see happening is that on the first logon they hit 1 of the brokers which mounts thier UPD, the broker then redirects them to another server of it's choosing for some reason and that server prompts them to logon again.
The problem I can see though is that if they enter thier password too quickly and try and logon the second server can't load thier profile as the broker still has it mounted.
If they wait 5 seconds on the second logon then they are fine. I have watched this occur, it takes a few seconds for the broker to dis-mount thier UPD so that it is available on the second server.
So I have 2 questions:
1. How can I stop it prompting the second login and pass the credentials through?
2. How can I get the broker to release the disk fast enough for the second server to be able to mount it?
Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

Remote Desktop Gateway server is temporarily unavailable
I have used a remote desktop website to access my jobs medical records apps from home, for years. All of the sudden a week ago while trying to log in I receive the error message stating, "Your computer cant connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is temporarily unavailable. Try reconnecting later or contact your network administrator for details." I have no idea what this means and the IT department told me at work it had to do with my network/internet at home. But it does not work on my computer at all using my wifi or anyone elses. The only thing I can think of is that it has to be something with my computer. I have Windows 8 and it used to work fine. Does anyone know what I should do? If so, could I get some step by step instructions? It would be greatly appreciated!!!

Running RemoteFX with RDP but without Hyper-V
Since a couple of weeks, I have been tasked with implementing Lync & webcams over a Remote Desktop Connection.
After searching the internet, I discovered a lot of articles regarding RemoteFX but the only problem is that the company uses VMware instead of Hyper-V.
So RemoteFX sounds like a good solution if it could be implemented....there is also the fact that the company has a 'No USB'-policy which makes it even more difficult to enable RemoteFX (I would have to make separate policies for enabling RemoteFX but disabling the functions of USB drives).
And now my question: Is it possible to run RemoteFX on a RDP connection without the use of Hyper-V?
If there are better/easier ways to implement Lync and webcams over RDP, then don't be afraid to share them.
Windows 2008R2 - Disable Internet Explorer for Users -Locally and RDS use
We use Windows 2008R2 as a terminal server. The users login using Windows XP client PCs. The users are not permitted to use the Internet - either at their local PC or while logged into the Terminal Server. How can we prevent them from using the internet (just via Internet Explorer) locally and via TS?
Thank you!
SIMPLE RDS deployment direction needed.
I feel like I'm trying to do a VERY simply RDS deployment in my environment and I just can't complete it with 2012 R2. Now I'm moving from what I feel is the most simple RDP OS to deal with as well. I currently have Server 2003 and I run session sharing on that server since that's the only way it works. With the new server 2012 R2 options I thought it would be a better idea to give my RD clients a personal and familiar W7 machine to remote to seeing how trying to teach them the new look of Server 2012 would just become a headache, Trust me it's not worth the attempt.
SO all I want to do is setup 2012 R2 Remote desktop services on ONE server in my domain. That server will also host the Hyper-V where the virtual desktops reside...
Now every walk through I see everywhere is session based deployment... No one speaks about the virtual side of things. One of my main goals is to have the clients be able to connect to their RDP session using ONLY the basic windows remote desktop connection
software. I'm hoping if this is possible it will make my thin clients work as well and not require changing that any.
The server I have is a Dell R620
Server 2012 R2 Standard installed
Dual Xeon E5-2609 V2 CPU's
96GB Ram
x8 600GB SAS drives configured in raid 10
Currently the server is setup, Hyper-V is running and I've gone through all of the RDP deployment wizards so it setup a RD Web Access Server, RD Connection Broker, and RD Virtualization host. It also setup my 7 Virtual PC's from the one template that I created for that. I went to the virtual PC collection and assigned a testing user to one of the machines as well. Am I missing anything?
Now what seems like the most simple task, how the heck do I connect to one of those virtual desktops? Opening Remote Desktop Connection and picking that server and using the credentials I assigned to a virtual box just results in "The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login"
Some other info that may matter... I only have Server 2012 installed in two other locations. One is the Domain Controller (only task) and the other instance is a virtual server located on the Hyper-V instance described above which will become my storage server eventually. The rest of my servers are as follows.
Server 2008 R2 - Epicor Application/Database server
Server 2008 R2 - Current File server and Backup server WSUS server
Server 2003 - Current Remote Desktop server
Server 2003 - Old Vantage application/database server
Server 2003 - ISA Server
I don't have a lot of resources available to me.

RDS Mouse settings
Hi
I am testing RDS on Server 2012 R2. Everything is working fine, but I need to disable the setting "Enable pointer shadow" since it's making the mouse lag.
I have found the following blog, and the setting is working fine, but it's applied the second time the user logs in.
http://chireven.blogspot.dk/2013/09/jerky-stuttering-mouse-pointer-in-rdp.html
Isn't it possible to have this setting applied at first login?

RDP & File Share Problem
Current configuration.
All Dev/QA Servers on VMware Infrastructures and sitting on Domain A and IP Address 192.168.X.X.
All Dev/QA Folks machines are on Domain B and IP Address of 10.104.X.X.
No firewall between the IP Ranges and We are able to ping the client to server or vice versa.
Problem:
Certain Dev/QA Folks when they try to RDP in to the server which they were able to do last week are now getting Password Failure even though they are typing in correct password. Looking at the Wireshark dump we are getting client reset both on the client side and the server side. Where as other dev/qa folks are able to login in to the server without any problem.
More interesting part, If one of the user that can not RDP in to the dev/qa server logs on to VMware Virtual Center and connects to server via Console which is successful. After successful Console login now they are able to login to RDP and we do not see any client side reset.
Further information, Servers that are windows 2003 r2 or 2008 r2 are the once that is having this random issue vs server 2012 r2 is running correct for everyone. Clients are all Windows 7 with latest RDP client.
When users are trying to login to the system via file share we are getting following NULL SID errors.

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.
The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.
The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).
The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.
The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.
The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.
Things we have checked for are following.

Server 2012 RDWeb services on Android?
we have a Server 2012 setup with RDWeb running. We can connect from and Windows PC and run the published apps just fine. When we try with an Android device we can see the web page and tap (click) on a published app icon, which then downloads something but nothing happens.
We tried installing the RDWEB app from the Google Play store but we get an invalid file error message when we try to run an app from the RDWeb interface.
What do we need to do to make this work on an android device?
REMOTE DESKTOP ON A DOMAIN CONTROLLER
I have a server 2012 with DC installed, i am trying to install Remote Desktop License to it so i can RDP to the server but it's not allowing me
is there any work around this or is it possible to do it.
Empty recycle bin for all RDS users
Tried the solution I have seen given: RD /s c:\$Recycle.Bin
Does not work on my RDS machine. Maybe RDS works differently. It deletes my Recycler but not for the other users.
Remote desktop gateway/web access enforce wallpaper.
Hi,
I am deploying remote desktop gateway on Windows 2012 R2.
This is working and i can deploy a custom RDP file to my external machines that specifies to have the wallpaper enabled.
The RDP file contains the line
disable wallpaper:i:0
We have applied a GPO to set the users desktop wallpaper to use the corporate wallpaper, and this works great.
If however users access the gateway via Web access, the RDP file they download and run does not contain this. I can not find anything in the deployment GUI to set this. Is there anyway of enforcing it?
Thanks
RemoteApp and Desktop Connections update returns Error code: 0x80070003
An error occurred. Contact your workplace administrator for assistance. Connection name: My Apps Connection URL: https://<externalfqdn>/RDWeb/Feed/webfeed.aspx Error code: 0x80070003, 0x0How do I troubleshoot this? When I enter https://<externalfqdn>/RDWeb/Feed/webfeed.aspx, I am prompted for a user name and password. When I enter the user name and password, a string of characters is returned. Is there a way to decode these characters? The only unusual element of my install is that the <externalfqdn> is different than the windows FQDN. Both point to the same IP address. I'm not seeing any event log errors on the server. If I delete the existing RemoteApp connection, recreation of the connection fails and no event is logged on the server OR the client.
