Microsoft Office 2007: adding an attachment from a network location crashes the program

$

Hello,

I'm running a Dell R610 Terminal Server with a 2008 R2 Standard license and I appear to be running into an issue where Outlook 2007 crashes every single time a user clicks on the insert attachment button. All of the most-up-to-date patches have been applied. When I copy a file from the NAS to the desktop of the terminal server and copy and paste or drag the file it attaches fine, it's only when a user clicks on the insert button that the entire program crashes.

Ironically a user can open a file in Excel and Word from any network share perfectly fine, it's only appears to be happening in Outlook 2007 when the insert button is pressed.

Does anyone else have this problem? - I've read in other posts that it's been resolved by some people and other's it still a open book.

RDWEB not redirecting printers on 2012 VDI pool deployment

I have RDWeb running on Server 2012 along with a 5 machine VDI pool.   If a remote user connects to the RDWeb server and then connects to a desktop in the pool, their local printer will not show up.  If the user connects directly to a machine through RDP the printer will show up.  I have redirected printers enabled.   The CAP is enabled for redirected items.  The RD Gateway has the drivers installed.  Any ideas on what I can do to get this working?

RDS 2008 R2 + IE 9 + PDF = PDF and funcky characters added to file extenstion

I have this bizzaro issue happening in my RDSH 2008 R2 farm since the Holidays.

When someone prints certain PDF's from IE 9 (doesn't seem to happen in Google Chrome).  The print server that's also Windows Server 2008 R2 box gets the PDF's with funky characters added to the extension...like a box, a zero, random other stuff.

very slow when accessing redirected drives!

Hi all,

we have RDS environment running windows server 2008 r2, and we allow drive redirection so that users can browse to their local drives.

workstations are windows XP SP3 and 7 SP1, and some windows 8

the problem is that when users access their workstations drives and try to navigate through lots of folders, it's very slow to list the folders and every time they switch to another folder it takes too long listing the folder and the window would lock and they can't do anything until it's done.

so my question is, what can be done to prevent this problem from happening and speed up the process of listing the folders?

Move Windows 2003 Terminal Server Licensing Server to Windows 2012

HI,

I need some assistance please. I have a client who has a Windows 2003 DC with Terminal Server licensing running on this server.  We are going to install new DC's with Windows Server 2012 and I have been asked to look into the impact of the Terminal Server Licensing.

Can I move the 2003 License Server to Windows 2012 Desktop Services Licensing without any issues?  Will 2012 RDS Licensing distribute 2003 CAL's?

Event 1530 when every Remote Desktop user logs off. RDS Windows 2008 R2.

Redirected Printers, should not be overlapping sessions...

Our Remote Desktop users and Redirected Printers.   Every login after the first they're getting what clearly appears to be the current + previous sessions multiple redirected printer sessions #s.  Very frustrating.  See attached image.

This really hints of the previous Login Sessions not closing properly, user profile logjam.

We're now focusing on the Event 1530 errors as a likely culprit.   This event occurs at every user Log off.  Below an a typical example of the event.

We read numerous forum posts and tried many of the suggestions.
1. Yes we have disabled Printer Redirection in Group Policy, same events occur
2. Yes we tried the UPHClean service which was popular back with W2K3 Terminal Server, it won't install on 2008 R2 and as its been replaced the MS User Profile Service.
3. No A/V software installed, no MSE or Defender.
4. User Profiles are at default location, on C:\Users\ of RDS Host.  Very simple new setup.

Do we need to research these Processes shown below individually?  Process 652 shown twice?  Or any other solution you can suggest allowing the Redirected Printers to refresh/clear user profiles properly.    How do we rid ourselves of Event 1530?

Hyper V 2012 Windows 8 Enterprise VDI RemoteFX video issue

I have setup my new Hyper V test box and have created multiple VM's with Win 8 pro without issue.  Most importantly I am testing remotefx and realized that I needed to use Win 8 Enterprise to get the physical GPU to be allocated to the VM.  Now that I am testing the Win 8 Enterprise with Remotefx I am getting random black screens or disconnects via rdp.  This only happens on Win 8 Enterprise. I have built 3 win 8 enterprise vm's from scratch to make sure I did not due somthing wrong in the build.  All systems are fully patched with the latest integration software too.

I am using a an NVIDIA Quatro 2000 with drive 9.18.13.1090 that I downloaded on Dec 31st.

Thank you

John

Server 2012 Multi GPU RemoteFX

We are looking to virtualize some CAD workstations using Server 2012 with RemoteFX, but I haven't been able to find much information on support for multiple GPUs.  For instance, if we have a server with 2 physical GPUs, would Windows pool the resources of those 2 cards and allow us to run 4 or 5 VMs, each with a vGPU?  Would we need to use CrossFire or SLI to get support for multiple graphics cards?

RDP8 on Windows 8 and Windows 7 is not the same (performance)

Hello,

I tested on different PCs with RDP8 Update on Windows 7 an with Windows 8, connections to a Windows Server 2012 RDP Machine. In the RDPCore Eventlog on the destination Server i always get the information, that the connection supports RDP8 and the latency is under 50ms (always WAN situation). The Client reports an good or excelent connection without using UDP Protocol (because of ruleset on firewall) But the problem is, that connections from Windows 7 PCs are always more laggy than from Windows 8 PCs. Its not the same user experience. Anyone with the same experience?

Greetings
Andreas

HI,

I am trying to configure the policy of Remote Desktop Service for RDP 8 in windows 7.

The policies under Remote Desktop Session Host Connections are:

“Allow users to connect remotely Desktop Services”,

“Select RDP transport protocols”,

“Restrict Remote Desktop Service users to single Remote Desktop Services session”.

The policies under Remote Desktop Session Host Remote Session Environment are :

“Configure RemoteFX”, “Optimize visual experience when using RemoteFX”,

“Opeimize visual experience for Remot Desktop Service Session”,

”Configure compression for RemoteFX data”,

“Configure image quality for RemoteFX Adaptive Graphics”,

“Configure RemoteFX Adapter Graphics”,

“Enable Remote Desktop protocols 8.0 ”.

I need those policies enabled automatically.

Is there any command can do this?

Thanks!

Best regards!

RDS 2012

All of a sudden I cannot login to my RDS Session server. It is telling that no license server can be found. However the license server is configured and on the session server running the RD License Diagnoser on the ailing computer shows no problems to report. I shows the name of the license server and when selected it shows the number of licenses available as 72. I am a loss to figure out the issue.

Idle Sessions: users that are disconnected via GPO are unable to reconnect.

Hello,

I'm having an issue with our Terminal Server Cluster.

Recently, we have been getting a ton of corrupt profiles on users on our network (350+ active sessions daily across 8 Terminal Servers) so to combat the issue I have tried by adding the policy that disconnects idle session to 2 hours and then terminates disconnected sessions after 1 hour. It has been working great, except for one small problem.....

When a idle user is disconnected they are unable to reconnect to their session, I have to manually disconnect there session in RDSM for the user to reconnect.

My thinking is that if a idle session is disconnected the user has 1 hour to login back in to maintain there session, but it appears that logical thinking isn't working correctly because users are unable to reconnect to their disconnected sessions.

Does anyone have any suggestions? - I'm thinking I have to change the disconnected session TTL to less than a 5 minutes so that the disconnected session don't become corrupt. There just doesn't seem like a viable option, IMHO, to allow a disconnected session to still live in memory for a user to re-use.

My end game goal is to save resources on a server or at-least auto-save documents or files before a user is disconnected.... but I'm sure that's a dream of most IT professionals....just a dream....

LIMITAZIONE PROGRAMMI SU WINDOWS SERVER 2008

TS Web & RD Web RDP connection problem

$

Summary:

  • Problem using Remote Apps & RDP from "RDWeb" interface when accessed from the public internet.

Background:

  • Currently have, 1 x Windows Server 2008 TS Web Access & 1 x Windows Server 2008 R2 RD Web Access setup.
  • Both are configured to use remote apps inc RDP.
  • Both allow login to the web interfaces (Prompts for login when connection to URL).
  • Both allow RDP connections internally and work correctly without problems.
  • Both have Digicert SSLs installed, tested as valid.
  • These are standalone installations and not in a Farm.

Issue:

TSWeb (Server 2008) works correctly and allows RDP connection to itself from the "Remote Apps"

RDWeb (Server 2008 R2) does not and the RDP connection errors:

"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is temporarily unavailable. Try reconnecting later or contact your network administrator for assistance"

I am trying to connection to the RDWeb server externally from a Windows 7 PC (RDP 6.2.9200). If I click the "Remote Desktop" selection on the TS Web Interface, I can also RDP to other Windows Server 2003 terminal servers, however any other Server 2008 R2 servers to not work.

Questions:

  1. Is there something being missed in the configuration?
  2. Are there any fundimental differences between Server 2008 TS Web and Server 2008 R2 RDWeb? (Security etc?)
  3. Would someone also be able to clarify the need to open port 3389 on the firewall, my understanding was that RDP (3389) should be wrapped in the HTTPS (443) traffic therefore only 443 would need to be opened. Unfortunately we have had to allow 3389 on the firewall for RDP connections to function from the outside work and get TSWeb working correctly. I presume I have misconfiguration reading this post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverTS/thread/d5906eb8-9a08-42b0-bdd8-356383401554

Many Thanks,

RD Web Access on different port (Windows Server 2012)

$

Hi guys,

did anyone of you successfully change the port for RD Web Access on Windows Server 2012 ? I installed RDS as quick setup (all features on one server - gateway, licensing, host, ....) - because I only have few users and don't need each server for each feature. Everything works fine except changing the port from 443 to something else. Here is the situation.

I changed the port to let say 4477, in IIS under bindings I added another binding (https - 4477 - correct certificate), I also changed the port number under transport settings in RD Gateway Manager and it seems that everything is working fine - almost.

- if I am on (domain or non-domain) machine that is connected in LAN, everything is OK
- if I try to use RD Web Access from machine outside LAN, I can successfully connect and login. But when I try to open some app, pop up window keeps asking for user credentials (none work).

Any idea ?

Thnx, Gregor

How to add Remote Desktops Services snap-in to 2003 ADU&C

$

I am mothballing our older 2003 terminal servers and replacing them with 2008R2.  We currently define our Terminal Services Profile path from our AD accounts and pull the profile data from our profile server.  It doesn't work with the 2008.  I am guessing it is because 2008 is looking for the Remote Desktop Services Tab for that information.  We do not have a 2008 domain controller at this time.  Is there an easy way to have the terminial services profile info auto populate into the Remote Desktop Services Profile field?

Is there a way to add that Tab to my 2003 DC so I don't have to manage this from seperate locations.

Thanks in advance.

RDS Broker and "power users"

$

This is the scenario I have and I wonder if anyone has solved this?

I have a 2 RDS servers with Load Balancing and Round Robin enabled.  A (third server) session broker is set up as well. Its working fine. Sessons are being redirected as planned.  I have the weight set at 30/70.  I want to have certain users only hit Server1, as they will be accessing their mail app, and sometimes they save something under their local profile on the server.  For the life of me, I cannot get these users to ONLY hit Server1.  I have tried using mstsc /v:server.  I have even created a different listening port and used mstsc /v:server:port, but that didnt work.  I cannot use mstsc /admin as they should not access the admin console.

Any ideas?
