SENDING RAW DATA IN TERMINAL SERVER USING GENERIC / TEXT ONLY DRIVER - PRINTING IS VERY SLOW

Hi

I developed an application in visual studio C#, I send raw data to an Epson thermal printer, but the printing is very slow, is unacceptable to deliver my app to an end users with  this printing issue. Printing a receipt.

I read about windows 2008 r2 terminal service having the printing perfomance problems and took some advice from others people having the same issue, but nothing work.

I did the following :

1- disable the render print job on client computer on my windows 7 client.

2- I try to disable the render print job on client computer on my server using gpedit, even though I changed it still active.

should I reboot the server, already reboot the virtual server.

3- send a print test and it is printed very fast.

My platform:

Windows server 2008 r2 Enterprise Sp 1, virtualized server with vmware - a hosted server

Remote desktop connection 6.1.

Easy print is disable.

Generic / Text Only is the driver used.

I'll appreciate any advice to help me, at this time I really need it.

Thanks in advance.

RemoteFX on Windows 2012 R2, numerous issues unresolved

Hi, I've recently deployed 2 x Dell R720 servers running 2012 R2 with NVidia GRID K2 GPU's and am having major issues with enabling RemoteFX, I've had to disable RemoteFX to get things working correctly.

Virtual Machines are Windows 8.1 x86 ENT fully updated with RemoteFX adaptor installed, client machines are either Windows 8/8.1 x64, Windows 7 SP1 X64 with RDP 8.1 updates or ThinPC with RDP 8.1 updates, RDP 8 is enabled via group policy. All drivers and firmware have been updated to the latest possible version available from Dell, I have also tried the NVidea GRID driver directyly from NVidia which actually makes Issue 2 worse

Issues 1, When clients connect the session randomly opens fullscreen but the resolution is set to 1024x768 so appears with black borders, switching the VDI session to windowed mode and then choosing fullscreen sometimes resolves this and sometimes it doesn't.

Issue 2, Sometimes when a client connects the session comes up with a black screen and then the sessions ends, this will happen to one or two users randomly while everyone else is fine and then all of a sudden they can connect without any issue.

Issue 3, Occasionally users log off or disconnects but their session remains active, the session can't be logged off nor shadowed and the virtual machine appears to hang, sometimes just shutting down the virtual machine resolves it other times a full server reboot is required.

I've also got an event viewer filled with errors I can't seem to resolve.

20499
Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server for user administrator

1306
Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user

8462
Remote Desktop Virtualization Host failed to set zeroconfig information from the virtual machine

This one originally occurred on the template VM and wouldn't allow the creation of the VDI pool, now it appears on almost every pooled VDI machine.

1208

Remote Desktop Services failed to join the Connection Broker on server .
Error: Current async message was dropped by async dispatcher, because there is a new message which will override the current one.

2056
The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database.

20498
Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to complete the client connection

1296

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker.
User :
Error: Element not found.

226
RDPClient_SSL: An error was encountered when transitioning from TsSslStateDisconnected to TsSslStateDisconnected in response to 25 (error code 0x8000FFFF).

36
An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x800708CA)

I've also had various other issues like 25 of 60 pooled machines being created before the rest fail with errors saying the template can't be used to create virtual machines..

Any help with all these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

RD Licensing Manager on Dreamspark license?

$

Hello
I have just received my Dreamspark Premium account. I am a bit concerned on what I can do with it, and what I can't (due to licensing). I have set up Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and install remote desktop services - however, RD Licensing manager claims that I don't have active license and it will terminate to operate in 120 days. Quick question then: am I, as Dreamspark user, qualified to receive free-of charge 1 user license for RD? I intend to create my own environment in "industry standard" domain, and I just have doubts if I can legally (and most importantly: free of charge) do so. Thanks in advance :)

Windows 2012R2 RemoteApp & "Shell Working Directory"

Hope somebody can help. One of our customers is using a 2008R2 TS/RDP environment and published a specific Accounting application which is used by several remote offices. This (Accounting) depends heavily on the "shell working directory" or "Start In".

We are in the proces of migrating this application to a 2012R2 environment and the application has to be published as a RemoteApp. Within the GUI or New-RDRemoteApp there is no option to specify the "shell working directory".

I have already tried to make a .CMD file, publish this as a remoteapp but this does not function also (Application errors).

Is there any way to set the "shell working directory' and publish it as a remoteapp?

Best regards,

Jacob

Pooled desktops not working

I have two servers a RDS server and a hyperv host, the RDS server has all the rds services in it remote apps work and I can connect to local machines using the RDS gateway, I install a RD virtualization HOST on a hyperv host and created a pooled desktop deployment desktop-1 and desktop-2, all seems to be working, I can launch a pooled desktop while on LAN, Once on the WAN I can not access to pooled desktops from rdweb or remote desktop app for a 8.1 client, same client I can access RDweb, remote apps, remote computers using the RD Gateway but I can not access any of the pooled desktops. I attempted to connect and goes through the motions but hangs at "initiating remote connection" and will stay there forever, on the RDS gateway server there is no connection listed. I try to connect through the RDS gateway directly to one of the pooled desktop computers it connects without issue. I've verified tcp 3389 and udp 3391 on firewall are open.

It seems like i'm missing something in he RDS gateway configuration that will allow it to connect tor pooled desktops.

Local resource usages.

Dear forum,

Hopefully you could help me solve a quite strange situation. I run and support a Windows Server 2008R2 Terminal Server with a mix of Fat and Thin clients. Lately i have noticed a huge performance difference between the Fat and Thin clients though both work on the Terminal server.

Could it be that the hardware on a Thin or even Fat client determines the performance on a Terminal Server. If so is it possible to block all local resource request regarding CPU or RAM so all the action will be performed on the server instead of on the Thin/Fat client and with it having the same performance across the Thin and Fat clients.

Thanks in advance,

deleting local user profile on RDS without reboot

I need to delete the local profile for a user on our RDS server, because of a problem with this user.

Since the user was using RDS a few days ago, and RDS wasn’t rebooted since, I can’t delete the local profile. When I go to advanced system settings—user profiles. The ‘delete’ option is greyed out.

I know that I can reboot the server then will be able to delete it, but since this server is serving many users, it means they all have to stop using it.

Is there a way to delete this user’s profile without rebooting the server?

I use sever 2008 R2.

Thanks

2012 R2 RDS Temporary Profile issue

$

I have set up a standard 3 node 2012 R2 RDS for testing. All virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.0. I have a connection Broker, session host, and web access server. I have published several applications and I can access them without a problem. Here is my issue:

When I try to log on to my session host server either locally or thru RDP, I am always logged in with a Temporary profile. It does not mater what user account I use. Even logging on locally as the administrator I get a temporary profile.

All windows updates are installed and current.

I have removed the server from the domain, deleted the account, and rejoined it to the domain.

I have deleted all .bak registry entries from here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

There is a hotfix here for a similar issue on 2012 but it does not apply to 2012 R2

The only event viewer errors are:

1515 (Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.)

1511 (Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.)

Any suggestions to resolve would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 7 w/ 8.1 RDP client error with 2012 RD Gateway

$

I've deployed a new RDS server w/ RD Gateway based on Windows Server 2012. Everything seems to be in working order on the server and its various roles. I've been testing internal and external access to the RD Gateway from both Windows 7 & Windows 8 computers using various web browsers. (frankly my whole reason for the new deployment)

Windows 8 computers seem to be working fine in IE, FireFox and Chrome although I will get prompted for credentials a 2nd time in Chrome and/or Firefox.

On my Windows 7 x64 PC I keep getting the following error when I launch the desktop from the portal:

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:

1) Remote Access to the server is not enabled

2) The remote computer is turned off

3) The remote computer is not available on the network

Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled.

Yesterday before I added the server to the RAS & IAS Servers I was logging Event ID 201 in the Terminal-Services Gateway log however those errors have subsided with the group membership change.

What have I missed here?

Thank you for any guidance on this!

RDS License server reporting no remaining licenses (event ID 21 TerminalServices-Licensing)

Problem:

I am seeing the below event in our RDS licence server every 15 mins.

Log Name:      System
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-Licensing
Date:          11/11/2014 16:27:21
Event ID:      21
Task Category: None

Description:
The Remote Desktop license server "SERVER1" does not have any remaining permanent licenses of the type "Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : Per Device CAL (TS or RDS)". As a result, the Remote Desktop license server cannot issue licenses of the type "Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : Per Device CAL (TS or RDS)" to the Remote Desktop Session Host or Remote Desktop Virtualization Host server "IP of another host server". To resolve this problem, verify that the Remote Desktop licensing mode configured on the RDSH or RDVH server matches the type of licenses installed on the Remote Desktop license server. If required, purchase and install additional licenses as needed for this Remote Desktop license server.

  • Configuration is "ok"
  • I've deactivated and reactivated the licence server
  • repeated the install of the licences and rebuilt the potentially corrupt database.

Any ideas from anyone?

First Attempt Never Works (Remote Desktop web access)

$

Hello! At my workplace, we are experiencing an odd problem. We have an office network with roughly 20 desktops running Windows 7, on a domain hosted by a server running Windows Server 2008. We use Remote Desktop / TS Gateway to let people log in from home through Remote Desktop Web Access (i.e. through Internet Explorer). There's a strange issue: the first time you try to connect to computer, 100% of the time, fails, with the error message "Remote Desktop can't find the computer '[name]'. This might mean that '[name]' does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to." But then, the second attempt always works!

Needless to say, this is something we'd like to fix. Once you connect, Remote Desktop works fine.

Network administration is done by an outside partner for us. Our partners say that this must-try-twice problem is a known issue with TSG, and cannot propose anything to fix it. However, I can't find any evidence that this is a known problem. I can find plenty of examples of remote desktop _not working_, but nothing where the first attempt never works but subsequent attempts do. Would very much appreciate any experience anyone can share with this--or any guesses as to what could be causing this.

I can add that, within the domain, seated at a computer, the Remote Desktop app accessible from the Start menu works perfectly fine, with no issues connecting.

Thanks much for any insights!

Co-sign own enterprise certification authority (Windows 2012 R2)

Hi,

I found this topic https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/d03f1ad9-94cf-4fac-8655-ea7eb4345bae/cosigning-a-2008-r2-certificate-authority-for-internalexternal-remoteapp-users?forum=winserverTSdealing with the same issue. I haven't found a clear answer if this is possible and if so how to perform these steps. I have my own enterprise ca up and running well. Of couse "my" own ca certificate is only trusted within my own domain. It's not trusted outside. I also found this hint from the system "A stand-alone or enterprise CA-issued certificate must be co-signed by a trusted public CA that participates in the Microsoft Root Certification Program Members program". This sounds like I could use my enterprise ca certificate requested & issued by a trusted provider (so instead my own in the root position one of the trusted ones). Is that possible?

RDS 2012 R2 with full HA, certificate mismatch on the second broker

$

Hi,

I just set up a new RDS deployment scenario with two servers.
Each servers have this role  : RDWeb, RD Broker, RD Gateway & RD Session Host
Licensing server and SQL Server is on another server, I switch from the internal database to the SQL database for HA Broker scenario.

HA work great, I can turn off one of the two servers, users can reconnect on the second (I use a Round Robin DNS for remote.mydomain.com and use a split DNS for the mydomain.com because of an internal domain in .local)

I have configured all the role to use the public FQDN name (remote.mydomain.com) and I set up a public certificate (mono-CN).
By using the Set-RDPpublishedName.ps1 script (https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Change-published-FQDN-for-2a029b80) all works perfectly, include the SSO which is native with 2012.

The issue is :
- When users pointing to the server1 IP (remember that I use Round Robin DNS), I don't have any warning ; from internal or external network the users just click on the published App and it just works.

- When users pointing to the server2 IP, the prompt you've got the first time (see the screenshot below) says all is pointing to remote.mydomain.com but after this prompt I have a certificate Warning because the broker use internal name of server2.mydomain.local for published App. This is not critical because the user can validate the warning and the publishedApp starts normally.

If I try to use the Set-RDPpublishedName.ps1 script on server2, I've got an error which says I don't have any RDP deployment on this server (server2 was installed from Server Manager of Server1).

Is anyone have a solution for me for force server2 to use my FQDN name instead of the local name ?

Thank you a lot !

Server 2012 Failure configuring Windows Updates Reverting changes Do not turn off your computer

Every time I add Remote Desktop Services Role, machine reboots 4 times on its own trying to install some kind of updates and RDS install fails. I know there is 8 probably but I cannot find their KB names. Event log does not show what they are or why they are failing. How to I stop these updates from applying?

Check the image below. It keeps failing on these updates circled and there is not way for me to stop them from attempting to install. The only way to see these in Windows Updates is if you enable RDS role and before you reboot. This is really frustrating, all I'm doing is attempting to install Remote Desktop Services for gods sake...

thanks

Windows 2012 R2 - Intermittent RDP Printing

$

Hello!

I have built a Windows 2012 R2 server with Remote Desktop Services running on it.  Remote users are having trouble with inconsistent printing through their RDP clients.  Their printers show up as redirected printers and do print sometimes, but other times nothing prints - the user click print, select their printer, and nothing shows up.  Later it will just start working for them again.  The problem seems to be universal - it is happening on clients with different versions of Windows, different printer models, and different printer manufacturers.  Has anyone seen this?  Are there any hotfixes for this that I can install?  I have all of the latest Windows Updates installed.

Thanks... Dave

Hi

I have configured a RDWeb+Host server.  I have also configured a separate RD Gateway server.  These are all 2012 R2.

Certificate is wildcard and everything works fine internally.

I have published the RD Web server on the Internet (Port 443 - demots.domain.com) only.  The public FQDN points to RDweb server inside.  Gateway server is NOT accessible from outside

Am I doing this wrong?  I can't connect from outside

RD Gateway Sever 2012 Session Timeout for Pooled Virtual Desktops

Hello,

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 setup with a pooled collection of virtual desktops.  When a user disconnects either from the desktop or RemoteApp the connection status shows disconnected and never logs off.  I have configured the "Set time limit for disconnected sessions" in the local group computer policy to 1 minute.  I have also set the RemoteApp session logoff delay to immediately.  Is there another setting somewhere else?

Thanks.

How to change password in RDP session

$

In my situation all RDP clients are remote over the internet. their passwords expire every 60 days. How can the user change their password before it expires? CTRL ALT DEL will not work because it takes you to a password change on your local machine. Note the users have no access to a desktop only a single application is forced to run through the user profile.
