In Remote Desktop Services 2008 R2 the Control Panel option Printers changed to Devices and Printers, this is too much information for RD users.
We tried to hide this by means of a GPO, but the only option here is to hide the complete item, not just Devices.
Then we tried the option in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2018577/en-us, creating a shortcut to Printers. This does present the correct layout, but a button is added 'Server Properties'.
How do we get rid of either Devices/Add Device in the 'Devices and Printers' Control Panel item, or the 'Server Properties' button in Printers?
Hi All,
I have 2 servers, Server X & server Y.
On License Manager on Server Y status shows below
Name: Server X, Activation Status: Activated, Discovery Scope: Workgroup, Configuration: Unavailable.
Name: Server Y, Activation Status: Activated, Discovery Scope: Domain, Configuration: OK.
NOW
1) Server X has terminal server role installed & license server feature installed but no CAL installed, so it is going to give default 90 days grace period only.
2) Server Y has terminal Licensing installed and CAL installed.
I want to deactivate server X as per http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772319.aspx.
Does this will require server X restart or will it force server X to automatically restart once i enter confirmation code provided by Microsoft & click Next/finish?
Hi,
We are hosting Chrome as a remoteapp from a 2012 r2 farm. Things are working fine, but some users can't print from the chrome browser.
When any printout is requested the job is sent to the queue and status stays spooling. When chrome is closed the job closes.
i am noticing an event 1511 when the users launch chrome.
We are using user profile disks, however their user profile is being used as their favorites and documents are there.
Any ideas?
Best,

UPDATE: sorry this didn't come up in my googling until i got rid of the 2012 r2 and remoteapp bit. Funnily enough many of these users are using 2012 and distributing as a remoteapp.
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=408184#makechanges
We have a specific scenario that is causing us a headache with a modal window in Excel 2013, published via RemoteApp to an OS X client:
We killed the session and resumed it from a Windows client, and we could observe the modal Page Setup window which we could clickOK on. The Mac client never shows it, and the experience to an end-user is simply that it locked up.
Any ideas for workarounds?
Hi,
I recently applied kb2830477 and related patches to a windows 7 enterprise node. I also updated a Windows 8 pro node to 8.1. I'm enjoying the speed and other enhancements. There are still problems, i.e. Outlook 2010 and 2013 toast and sound don't work.
We run RDS remote apps on production 2008 r2 and distribute via .msi files; those pin to the taskbar fine. Unfortunately the newer remote applications distributed via Control Panel > Remote app and desktop connections won't pin to the taskbar, or at least I can't figure out how.
On Win/7 I used to drag and drop 2012 r2 remote apps from the All programs > Remote app and desktop connections to the taskbar, or alternatively send to desktop, then drag that shortcut to the taskbar. that doesn't work, I get a red-lined circle when I hover over the taskbar.
On Win/8 I used to display all apps, then right-click and choose Pin to Taskbar; that option is no longer available.
Any thoughts? These apps still launch from the desktop, puzzled as to why they won't pin to the taskbar for easy access.
Best,
S'
Hello there
Topography
Two VM’s:
Problem
I have a single app installed on both session hosts (the apps require their own servers). Both appear on the RDWeb site available for use. I can run the app hosted on VM1 no problem, but when I try to open the second app hosted on VM2 I get two issues:
“Your computer can’t connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server address and the certificate subject name do not match. Contact your network administrator for assistance".
When viewing the certificate, it actually shows the CA cert installed on the SBS server for RWW, not the cert on VM1. This has me puzzled
Secondly on VM 2, I get
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event ID: 1280 Warning Microsoft Windows TerminalServcies-session broker client
Remote Desktop Services failed to join the Connection Broker on server sever-vm1.local.
Error: Current async message was dropped by async dispatcher, because there is a new message which will override the current one.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I run the app internally it seems to load but then disappears.
Some further config info if it is relevant:
Am I missing something simple? DNS? Port forwarding issue on the router? Its my first deployment of this nature with RDS 2012
Regards
MIS5000
We have 3 servers in a site and are in the same domain.
One of the users can log on to 2 servers by using AD account but one server said "unknown username or bad password". I checked the event viewer, it has a 4625 and with null SID.
Any idea, please help.
Thanks.
Hello,
This is my RDS setup:
CB1 - Broker, Web Service, Gateway (Configured HA with CB2)
CB2 - Broker, Web Service, Gateway (Configured HA with CB1)
SH1 - Session host in collection
SH2 - Session host in collection
SQ1 - SQL server for RDS services
I have been absolutely stumped by this for weeks now. All servers are in a VMware environment, and when I force crash one of my brokers, the other one instantly takes over, and is doing as expected. However, if I try and force boot one of my session hosts, users on the the session host that went down cannot reconnect to the other session host. Other users are not affected.
Eventually the CB's will redirect as they are supposed to, but there is no definitive time, it's usually between 30 minutes to an hour, which is just unacceptable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I've successfully set up several 2k8R2 and 2012 WebApp RDP's previously, but am having some issues with this one. I am using a wildcard SSL. I can log into the TS Web Access portal just fine. The RDP link is supposed to just open up a remote session on the TS server but shortly after entering in my creds (after hitting the remote desktop link) it fails. Internally, the remote desktop works perfectly.
Any ideas?
Hi There
Since the update 1 for Server 2012 R2 the Store icon has been put on all of the taskbars for every user in our RDS environment. I have been looking into another article that shows the "User configuration\Start Menu and TaskBar\Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar"
I cannot find the policy "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar"
I recently updated the ADMX files in our central store but this GPO doesn't show as an option. does anyone know which ADMX file it is that controls this or where I can get hold of it?
if anyone can provide me with the name I suppose I can copy it from the local policy definitions folder on the 2012 R2 server?
Kind Regards
Jon B
We are using RDS 2012 R2 with several hosts.
With a test account logging in, clicking the start button brings up the Apps screen.
However Apps screen only shows Desktop, Internet Explorer, Administrative Tools, computer, Control Panel, Task Manager -- this is after they click the Start button...
HOW to make other Office etc. apps appear on the Apps screen?? and on the Start screen??
Does Group Policy control this, what??
The test account is affected by group policy...which group policy(ies) should be modified to show more available apps??
Thank you, Tom
Hey All,
Running into a curious issue that I've been trying to fix on and off, related specifically to using "Remote Resources" from the RDP App version 8.0.9 on OSX only.
When I type in the (proper) URL for my RDWeb Server, it hangs and never displays any remote resources. What is more alarming however, is the IIS traffic server side shows it continually retrying and failing without ever stopping. The only way to get it to"stop" is to go back in and blank out the Remote Resources fields, and press refresh. I've been able to eat up a significant amount of CPU on my RDWeb servers by just getting 5-10 Mac's trying to connect at the same time, and let it run for 5-10 minutes, it just never stops retrying.
The server side logs look like this:

...and on and on, repeating in an endless loop until I manually blank the details within "Remote Resources" on the Mac.
My first thought was to chase down the 401.2 error, which leads me to believe the Client and Server did not support a common authentication scheme? We do currenlty do some basic server hardening via GPO - disabling RC4 and SSLv2, as this server is intended to be publically available when we go live. However, reverting this stuff back to "stock", and rebooting, has not alleviated the issue, or change the IIS log output. My research on the various 401.1 errors hasn't gotten me anywhere either, unfortunately.
The interesting thing is, using Windows 7, 8, 8.1 is fine. Using Android's RDP app, as well as IOS RDP App, I can use the "Remote Resources" function just fine. We are using 100% Public trusted CA certs, and everything "else" seems to work with the exception of "Remote Resources" on OSX specifically.
On OSX, I can also use Safari, or Firefox and load the Remote Desktop Web Access page, and launch an app successfully (Minus the still existing RD Gateway issue, which requires the .RDP file be manually edited first to work through an RD Gateway on OSX, it still ignores these settings as of 8.0.9). Additionally, within Safari or Firefox, I can visit the "/feed/webfeed.aspx" url and login, to where it will download the RSS feed as a file, so it appears to "function" at least through the browser to some extent. (it is my understanding that all the Remote Resources portion should be doing is downloading the RSS feed and populating it within the RDS app for convenience?)
Has anyone seen this before? Surely I can't be the only one....? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions, I can provide additional details or clarification if needed.
Hello,
Is it normal that the CSR key continues to populate even if the CSR is disabled (verified with 'Get-Printer -Full |fl')?
BTW winprint is used for all the printers on the print servers, and non-microsoft monitors are deleted.
Thx,

Hello,
Two 2012R2U1 forest (only one domain - 2008R2 native mode) with a bidirectional trust.
No problem, users and groups from Forest1 are recognized in the Forest2, and the reverse.
On the Forest1, there are remote desktop services who are working fine, with a broker and a gateway (broker and gateway are the same machine).
Within this broker, there are collections.
Within those collections, there a specific permissions to grant access or not to some RemoteApp's.
To configure those permissions, you choose groups. And there, for an unknown reason, groups from the other forest are refused.
Thank you for your advice
Host server running 2012 Hyper V with 3 VM's
One RD Broker configured
Two Session Hosts in a collection - not in drain mode.
All are 2012 R2
I can use RDweb and the RD broker will divert me to one of the host servers. I can use the RDP icon and works.
I would rather use the new remote desktop app in windows 8, and use Desktop Sessions (Terminal Services), not VDI or RD web.
I'm hoping that the Broker is in drain mode but the server will not redirect. I am not sure what's going on, I haven't placed the domain users in the remote desktop users on the Broker because I cannot place the Broker into drain mode like I had in the pass with 2008 R2
Doesn't make sense and I have done a heap of searching.
My objective is to use the remote desktop app and log into one of 2 servers with a desktop session.
I believe this is the error I need to get past.
I have placed Broker into the Windows Authorization Access Group
Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user domain\user. Error:NULL
Hi Folks,
I would in install applications based in ClickOnce.
I read that is possible Install and run from their hosting website through a web browser such as Internet Explorer published as a RemoteApp program.
I search in blogs, forums, but not I find nothing.
Someone can share their experience in relationship the installation from app clickOnce through a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Thanks again folks

Hi,
I have developed a Dynamic Virtual Channel plugin for xfreerdp, the code is working well in "classic" use cases and I am able to use my plugin in Windows applications on the RDP Host (Win7 computer).
However, I am facing issues when the plugin client code (executing
on the RDP server) is ran while the RDP session is not authenticated.
This happens when you connect to the RDP server (Windows
7) using legacy "rdp" mode. The graphical logon screen is displayed and my plugin code runs. The issue is that very early in the client code, I have an "Invalid descriptor" error when using WTSVirtualChannelOpenEx.
I am wondering if you are allowed to use DVCs while
the user has not yet authenticated himself.
Could anyone confirm this ?
I have a RemoteApp on WIndows Server 2012 R2. When opening this remoteapp on a Windows 7 sp1 client, the remoteapp opens just fine. When I minimize the remoteapp, it minimized, but also stays visible on the screen. When hovering over it, it "erases" the remoteapp screen. Very annoying.
When the Win7 client has the Aero theme enabled, this does not happen. However, due to some limitation of a docking station, we need the basic theme.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Hi,
I use to launch RDP Remote App using the URL scheme with the following url:
urlNSURL *@"rdp://full%20address=s:myserver:3389&username=s:myuser&remoteapplicationmode=i:1&remoteapplicationname=s:MSExcel&remoteapplicationprogram=s:C:%5CProgramData%5CMicrosoft%5CWindows%5CStart%20Menu%5CPrograms%5CMicrosoft%20Office%202013%5CExcel%202013.lnk"
It worked fine until I updated RDP on iOS to 8.1.3.
I now have the following error popping up even before the connection is made:
Unsupported feature
Remote app launch is not supported in Windows Remote Desktop for iOS.
Has the format of the URL Scheme changed or is this simply a bug?
Thank you,
Regards,
John
