Error publishing RemoteApp

Hi All,

I´m configuring RDS on Windows 2012R2. I have two production RDS Servers and I installed one Broker and Gateway Server and two session Hosts. After creating a collection with two hosts I wanted to add a RemoteApp. On host1 no problem at all, but on host2 I receive following error:

Server.local is not available on the Network. Verify that the Server is available on the Network or remove the Server from the collection.

It´s not possible to publish a RemoteApp on that host. Does anyone has an idea?

Thanks.

Dirk

RDP with shadow switch on 2008 R2

I have a problem with accessing remote session on Windows Server 2008 R2 by using this command:

mstsc /v:172.20.0.1 /shadow:2

Session ID is correct. The command is executed from another 2008 R2 server. On both there is the newest mstsc version 6.3.9600 (Remote Desktop Protocol 8.1 supported). While trying to connect this error occurs:

Shadow Error
The version of Windows running on this server does not support user shadowing.

On the RDSH I have set up these options:

Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Session Host/Connections
Policy: Set rules for remote control of Remote Desktop Services user session
Setting: Enabled

Options: Full Control with user's permission

Policy: Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session

Setting: Enabled

There is no problem to connect to Windows Server 2012 R2 with these settings.

RD farm in High Availability

Hi all,

I am in the process of bilding a RD farm using 3 Server 2008 VMs as RDSH.

This is a temp and may only be used for max. 3 months.

Can Session Broker and NLB installed on RDSH servers?

MS article regarding NLB states that

The Windows Server 2008-based server where you install the TS Session Broker role service does not have to be a terminal server or have Remote Desktop enabled.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771300(v=ws.10).aspx

I'm assuming this means RDSH can bea Session Broker as well?

But not sure whether we need dedicated NLB or we can use one of the RDSH's?

Please advise.

Thanks!

Hi.

I am IT manager for a new RDS 2012R2 environmnet with 2 terminal servers running MS Office Professsional Plus 2013 SP1 Norwegian.

The main problem :

Previewing of word/excel/powerpoint file attachments in  Outlook2013 does not work on these 2 RDS2012R2 terminal servers.

The excel error is telling me the following message:

"Cannot preview this  file because an error occured in the following preview program: Previewing in Microsoft Excel"

Previewing is OK functioning with file explorer but not with Outlook2013  consistently.

I have updated both 2 RDS 2012R2 TS servers with the newest Windows Updates for Office 2013 and OS as well.

I tried several times to rin repair of the Office Pro Plus 2013 installation with reboots with no positiv soultion to this preview problem.

I searched the Internet/Google for hours without any luck anf here is some of the URS I have tried so far:

Copy all of "My Desktops" to another Mac with Microsoft Remote Desktop v8.0.9

I have almost 1,000 entry under  "My Desktops" in Microsoft Remote Desktop v8.0.9 and I'm looking for a quick way to transfer all of them to another Mac.

I thought I could just copy the .plist file at:

~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac/Data/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.rdc.mac.plist

to my new computer and I'd be good to go but that's not working.

I also found the

~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Remote Desktop

folder and copied that as well (tho the folders here look to be empty, I see the folder names match entries in the .plist). Yet, "My Desktops" is empty.

I also noticed when I copy the .plist over to the new laptop it's 946 KB in size. I run the RDP client on the new computer and the .plist file size drops down to 10 KB in size.

I really do not want to export all 1,000 entries and copy those files over to the new computer. I've found that the exported files when run require you to enter the username/password verse automatically getting it from (I assume) the keychain.

Is there anyway to copy all my RDP hosts from 1 Mac to another Mac?

Thanks.

Basic setup of RDS requirements when moving to 2012 R2

Hi.. We are having a complicated and old 2003 - 2008 TS setup that is mostly misconfigurated and outdated.

And now we added our first 2012 R2 servers

I would like to have the remote desktop "more than 2 sessions" activated for the 2012 as well ..

as i see it..

1. It is not supported in the old 2008 License servers.

2. I need to add some infrastructure in  .. or .. around the new 2012 servers

HOW do i get this functionality the easiest and fastest way ?

With hop for speedy (and easy) answers .. Ingemar

(Have tried to educate myself but everyone describes total solutions .. have no time for that)

No auto program run as per Environment tab

We are moving from an old Windows 2003 R2 server to Windows 2012 R2. The Terminal Services, now Remote Desktop Services, configuration in the old server runs fine, but, on the new server, we are not getting the auto program run we have specified in the user's Environment tab in AD. We do not want a blanket policy for all RDS users; it is user by user and not for all users. Everything else works, no trouble getting in, etc. Just no auto program run ever for anyone. Must be some (new) setting I am missing. The old server is still our active server and the AD domain spans both the old and new servers, so I am assuming the AD part is right (since it works fine with the old server). What should I be looking at on the new server? Thanks.

Trust problem through RD Gateway?

$

Here's my setup:

Server 2012 R2 RDs Services
RD Gateway, RD Web, RD Sessions hosts, of course.
Two-way trust from our domain to an external domain is setup and verified.

In my domain I created a group called "trust-dom Users" and I put the trusted domain users into that group.
I assigned that group rights to connect to the RD Gateway
In the RD Servers group policy I added the group to Policies->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policies/User Rights Management->Allow log on through Terminal Services
I also went into properties of each RD server and added the group to the who can access the server under "remote settings"

Local users to the domain can login just fine. I can't seem to get the domain trusted users to authenticate. I can go to the gateway via RDWeb and authenticate just fine. Just not against the RD session hosts.

I'm still testing a bit so I may have updated information later but if anyone can advise me as to where to look that would be great.

Hi,

Is it no longer possible to publish remoteapps using MSI?

The problem with this is that it's not possible to do file associations unless you use the Remote Desktop Web Connection.

RDS 2012 Deployment guide

$

Hi,

I'm looking for a RDS 2012 Deployment Guide or best practices document but not finding it.  Basically I'm looking for the equivalent of the document below but for Server 2012 R2 instead of 2008 R2

<won't let me add link to body yet>

We are planning a new RDS implementation and want to make sure we get the environment and resources right from the beginning.  Initially I'm mainly curious about the recommendations on how many servers are needed and which roles can be combined on single servers and which need to be broken out onto their own boxes.  For example is it best to have the RD Gateway and the RD Web Access roles on their own individual servers or should/can they be combined on to one box in the DMZ?  If separate; can one of them also double as the connection broker?  That sort of thing.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks

Single server solution for RDS / TS / RDP using Windows Server 2012 R2

$

Planning on setting up a small single server and  need this functionality:

* 3 local users runnnig Windows 7 Home Premium needs to access files on the server

* The same 3 users should also be able to connect from home (PC, Mac, iPhone) and run an application on the server. (Session-Based Remote Desktop).

We want to use Windows Server 2012, and found out that Essentials does not support RDP, so that leaves Foundation and Standard versions.

However, I also found out that in WS 2012 the RDP can not be on the same server as the Domain Controller, and we therefor needs to run 2 server instances on our hardware. I think this starts to look way to complicated for what we want to do, but found out that WS 2012 R2 allows a single server to run RDP (See TechNet article 2833839).

So we will go for Windows Server 2012 R2, either Foundation or Standard to set up our RDP.

So now the question: Will that solution work with our local machines running Windows 7 Home Premium, as they cannot connect to a domain? Can we set up some kind of simple file share or Workgroup to acces files locally while still keeping the RDP functionality on the server?

And, will WS 2012 Foundation R2 do this as well as WS 2012 Standard R2?

(I have been asking several locat MS representatives to find a solution to our needs, but no one seems to know how this works....of cause we could just get 2 WS 2012 Standard server instances, run one as DC and on as RDCB and upgrade all our clients to Win 7 Pro, but we would like a solution with minimal investment in time and money)

Petter

Server 2008 R2 - Remote Desktop Users group cannot connect

$

I've recently (yesterday) installed a new 2008R2 member server to be used as a Terminal Server host. I have (on another machine) licensing configured. The host server allows Admins to remote in, but doesn't allow anyone else, including those in the Remote Desktop User group. I have a 2003 R1 server online, which uses this same group, and everyone in it can remote into the 2003 box just fine.

I have used secpol, and did have to add the Remote Desktop Users to the allowed list. No effect however.

It seems I can manually add individual users this way, but its as if it doesn't "see" the Remote User Group's members.

I have one 2008R2 DC in the forest, the others are 2003. It was added yesterday as well (and is the licensing server, if that matters.)

On a related note, I also added a 2008R2 Storage server recently (member server). When I tried to assign share rights to a folder yesterday, it wouldn't let me select the administrators group. It seems as if both 2008 R2 machines arn't "seeing" groups listed under the AD Builtin security group.

What am I missing?

thanks in advance.

There is a problem with this connection's security certificate The remote computer cannot be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate. Security certificate problems might indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send

Hi,

I have this Windows 2008 R2 on which I installed remoteapp some years ago.
Now the certificate expired and I get the message

"There is a problem with this connection's security certificate

The remote computer cannot be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate.

Security certificate problems might indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the remote computer."

How should I renew the certificate? I already went to certification store and tried to renew certificate with same key but then it says "the request contains nor certificate template information".

Please advise.

We have a w2008 R2 terminal server for a week now and clients make a vpn connection. They copy paste pictures from local to a Word 2010 document on the terminal server.

Everthing function well before. Same clients and a w2003 terminal server with Word 2010. Users copy local picture (openend in Paint, Microsoft Photo viewer, Irfanview, etc.) and than copy paste it to a Word document on the terminal server.

Now it does not work anymore accept when they opend it local in Paint. Only than they can copy the picture.

-I have checkt de properties on client

-I have restart rdpclip.exe on Termnal server.

-I have checked if it is a rights issue but it seems that it's not

I realy like to find a solution for this because doing it with MSPaint is al lot of work for the people.

Does any has a answer for this?

Your help will be appreciated.

Cannot Connect to a Remote PC (remote app server) when access through RDS Gateway remotely

We have a W2k12r2 RDS environment with 3 remote hosts and two remote gateway servers. Remote Apps are working fine both inside our network and from remote networks. Connect To A Remote PC works fine inside our network from anywhere on the WAN.

When connecting remotely, I cannot connect to a remote PC when going through the gateway. I am able to RDP from the Gateway machine to any server I want, but the RDS Web interface Connect to a Remote PC will not connect. Nothing in the event viewer of either Gateway machine and nothing is getting blocked in the firewall. I have tried making the connection both via host name and via ip address.

I have published a RDP as an Remote APP and that is able to connect. It's just the Connect To A Remote PC option that does not connect. It just times out without an error message.

Auto start an application - best practices

$

I'm looking for some thoughts and opinions on this issue.

New 2012 R2 RDS farm, there is one application we did not put on the terminal server because out of 100 users, only one person ever uses it.  It's installed to an available file server in the environment.

For now the person is RDPing from her RDS session to the file server, and running the app.  Problem: the full desktop is presented.

What i would like is to be able to edit an RDP file and on the Programs tab select "Start the following program on connection" which brings up the second problem, it's not an RDS server so that setting is ignored.

The program itself is actually shared out from the server, she has a shortcut to the exe, the thought process was just run the application over the network, but due to a limitation in the software it does not work.

Any ideas, short of installing this application to all 3 rds servers in the farm?

Remote app outlook

Hi,

I am not sure if anyone has come across this issue with windows remote app. When a user uses remote app integrated with outlook which is also setup on user terminal server profile, the user pc sort of hangs when sending out emails with outlook. So when the user click send on the remote app software, messages start sending out and user cant clieck anything else or work on the local pc until messages finishes sending. I am note there will be no direct to the answer for this but will be great if I can get more ideas on troubleshooting. Outlook version installed on the server is 2003.

Thanks very much everyone.

Cheers,

Windows Server 2012 and win 8 app on terminal server

On a windows 2012 server, is it possible to install a windows 8 app that can be accessed (via terminal services/remote desktop) by client computers running prior version of Windows, such as 7, Vista and maybe XP? (Obviously without the touch capability). In other words, can a  windows 8 app be accessed via terminal server by other versions of Windows or it must be only Windows 8?

Also, I read that the new RDC can also be downloaded from the Windows Store to a tablet, but what tablet? "Surface" , iPad, Android?

Thanks so much
