RD Licensing service not starting on server 2012 R2

I have a newly built Server 2012 R2 server with Connection Broker, Session Host, Gateway and Web Access installed and this has been working fine during testing, now I want to put it into production and so installed the license service on it as well.  After running the install for the licensing service every thing seemed to install fine but I cannot get the service to start, checking the event log I find the following error:

The Remote Desktop Licensing service terminated with the following servide-specific error: %%3221295105.

I also see event ID 39, 37 and then 4097 in the event log

I can't find anywhere that the licensing server should be run from a different machine or anything like that and wondered if anyone had had a similar issue?

My initial thought was that it might be some permissions issue, but I installed the service as domain admin so shouldn't be a problem..

Server 2012 - RDS set up for sessions - how do I limit the applications available to a user

Hi All

Have set up a 2012 RDS server but I want to create a standard desktop that will apply to all users with respect to the programs they see available, for example I dont want them to be alble to see Server Manager when they display all app on the start screen, I don't want to do this via RemoteApps if possible, ideally wanted to have a different desktop based on security groups, eg. anyone in the 'Accounts' group gets Sage, outside of that group it doesn't appear, I initially thought sessions groups were my answer but as there is only one server it would appear I can only have one group so I figure this isn't possible. Can anyone point me at any useful resources or offer any advice on if what I want to achieve is possible and if so how?

Thanks

Stu

Urgent please: Clients log onto servers outside the collection??

Hi,

Here's my network:

"Collections" host servers:

  • SVRDS1
  • SVRDS2
  • SVRDS3

I've created a selection "MyCompany" with this server:

  • SVRDS1

If I use WebAccess and click the "MyCompany" RD icon, then "Remote computer" is my round-robin name "rd.mycompany.com" - but when I connect, I end up at SVRDS2 eventhough that my collection only contains SVRDS1 ... why?

Other info:

  • Clients are mixed of Win7 and Win8.1.
  • All certificates are configured with an wildcard *.mycompany.com certificate (except the RDSH servers).

Thanks.

RD WEB password.aspx doesnot work sometimes

Hi all!

There is an rd farm on 2012 R2 servers. I've switched on a feature that allows users to change their passwords. I did a small customization of the password.aspx - just added a tab for users navigation.

Problem is: sometimes I can change my password, but sometimes I get a warning: "The user name or password that you entered is not valid. Try typing it again." (of course I type  correct password because I can login with it to the rdweb site)

I didnot find anything in the logs... What could be a problem? How can I find a cause of such behavior and solve it?

thanks in adv.

RDS Advice on Profiles

Currently my users all save their data to their own home directory (configured via AD profiles). Each directory is stored on a central file server.

I am now planning on implementing Remote Desktop Services  - session-based.

I plan to build a farm of 2 RDS servers.

  1. Should I simply use Folder Redirection to point to the existing home directories? Will this work or do I need to create new store and copy all contents of each directory to new folder redirection location.
  2. Folder Redirection will take care of the data. Should I use User Profile Disks or tried and tested Roaming Profiles for user settings? Pro's and Con's?
  3. Any guidance / documents to start me.

WINDOWS 7| COM Ports go unresponsive on Remote desktop connection

Hello we are experiencing a strange problem and let me explain in detail:

Problem:

We have a remote desktop connection from a PC (PC1) to remotely login and control PC2 which in turn has some hardware devices connected via COM Port of PC2. We observed that the Serial communication between the Hardware devices and the PC2 drops on some occasions when we make a remote desktop connection to PC2 from another PC. Could  anyone share some of your experiences? Has it been noticed before?

I will also take a look at the possible port conflicts but is there any other obvious reason for this to happen?

System Information:

OS: Windows 7 Professional

RDP cals per device license do give access to new client device while client device which already has access is logged out.

Hi,

we have 9 no's RDP cals per device license, we have installed the terminal server and activated it and have installed the license.

9 no's of RDP cal license installed means 9 devices can take RDP over server concurrently right, My problem is if i log off a user that is taking a RDP from a device and start a  RDP with a new device, while the device out of nine only eight are currently logged on to server. why is the new device not  getting the access to server.

If the new device does not get the access, then how should i point device from server to give access to specific device's.
please explain how will server give access to clients  in per device and per user RDP cal.

I've set up an RDS 2012 R2 host farm, but have problems.

When I try to log on from an outside client, then I get this error...

"An authentication error has occurred (Code: 0x607)"

I've tried google it, but without any result.

Any idea how to fix this?

Delegate permissions Server 2012 R2 RDS environment

Fellow IT Pro's

I've been asked to give a certain user permissions to logoff sessions on the session host server, and I'm unable to find the procedure of delegating this (these) permission(s) to this user (group).

I can't imagine this not being able to configure, but I just can't find it.

Thanks in advance.

RDS 2012 Connection Broker HA Issue

Hi,

I am currently running a RDS farm of 20 RDS server which includes:

2 RDS CB Servers in HA which alongwith them have web acess role as well and have other 18 servers running as RDS Hosts.I have RDS CB and RD web access running in NLB with multicast mode.Have couple of items:

1.is this setup recommended to have with NLB in place with multicast mode or we should use DNS RR to have HA.

2.When i am shutting down one of the RDSCB node ,the connection donot go via other node and the active node in RDSCB deploymnet shows the name of powered down server. How can this be rectified

3.As per below screenshot there are two feature with RDCB with single signon and Publishing ..How can i make sure and verify if its being load balances across bthe the servers in HA in NLB mode.

RD Web Access was not able to access.

Hi I have SBS 2011 (Server 2008 R2) that has the role of RD Gateway and RD Web installed. Since it is SBS and therefore very limited with what can and should be there installed, I installed second server Server 2008 (that was long time ago. This server had TS Server, TS Licensing, TS WebAccess installed. On SBS 2011 I went to WEbAccess configuration and entered name of Server 2008 and apps appeared from outside. That solution was working now 3 years.

Because it looks like it is easier to handle who can see what in Server 2012 R2, I decited to do the same. So I installed RDS via RDS installation, really quick way and everything was up and running on the new server 2012 R2 in the matter of minutes. But since this is still  local I decited to use old RD Gateway ( SBS 2011). So I went to RDS default connection -> configuration page, entered the name of sever 2012R2, and I got the same error for both "An RD Connection Broker Server" and "One or more RemoteApp Sources".

Error : "RD Web Access was not able to contact the RD Connection Broker server specified. Ensure that the RD Connection Broker server name was entered correctly, and that the server is running and available on the network"

Most of the solutions mentioned that I need to add RDGateway in TS Web Access Computers security group. The problem is that this group doesn't exist anymore (at least I think, since I didn't see it)

So I started to look around on Server 2012 R2 to see which groups exist there. When I add RD Gateway computer to the "RDS Management Server" local group of Server 2012, after that I was able not to have an error when I pick  "One or more RemoteApp Sources" on the RD Gateway (RD WEb Access Configuration).

But none of the published and LAN accessible apps are actually listed there.

On RD Gateway I have warning message :

No programs on RD Session Host server 2012R2 are configured to display in RD Web Access. Verify the program settings on that server.

I know that they are published since I can access in LAN from any PC.

Can you help. What else I need to check ?

Thanks.

Event Log Error 3,50,137,140 When logging off an RDS Session.

Hi

I have implemented a virtualised RDS 2012 server farm ( session host) running on a 4 node Hyper-V Cluster. I am experiencing errors & warnings written to the event log whenever a user logs off a session.

The errors are

Event ID:50  Warning NTFS ( Delayed Write Failed - Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \$LogFile etc etc...

Event Id:140 Warning Microsoft-Windows-Ntfs  - The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur in in Volumeid: etc etc...

Event Id:137 Error Ntfs - The default transaction resource manager on volume xxxxxx encountered a non-retryable error and could not start

All servers are 2012 with all hotfixes applied

The problem occurs whenever we implement Profile Disks with the collection, the profile disk share has been implemented on physical server 2012 hosts & virtual server 2012 file servers and the problem persists on either.

MultiMonitors on Windows 7 ULTIMATE

I have a W7 Ultimate with 7 monitors which I can successfully connect to Server 2008R2 with all 7 or fewer depending on how many monitors are specified in tsconfig in server 2008R2.

However when attempting to connect my original W7 Ultimate PC to a second W7 Ultimate PC, I consistently only get 1 monitor. I've tried most of the suggestions related to configuring mstc, tried both RDP 7 and 8, adding multimontor to the registry, etc. Two questions:

1. Why am I not seeing all  multiple monitors on the when I connect?

2. Is it possible using W7 Ultimate as the host/server computer, to restrict the maximum number of monitors like one can do on Server 2008R2 with tsconfig (which does not exist for W7Utl.)

Thanks for the responses.

Glyph support for Windows Server 2012 with RDP 8.0

$

We are leveraging an open source RDP client called FreeRDP (https://github.com/FreeRDP/FreeRDP) to access various Windows Servers. We spun up new instances of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2012 in Azure. When targeting the Windows Server 2008 machine, the RDP session worked well and text was rendered with glyphs. When targeting the Windows Server 2012 machine, the RDP session worked well but the text was rendered with bitmaps instead.

Examining the Client Confirm Active PDU (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc240488.aspx) sent during the Capabilities Exchangeof the RDP connection handshake, we confirmed that the Glyph Cache Capability Set (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc240565.aspx) was set in the capabilitySets field. TheGlyphSupportLevel was set to Glyph_Support_Full. Additionally, the Order Capability Set(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc240556.aspx) was set in the capabilitySets field of the Client Confirm Active PDU.Both TS_NEG_FAST_GLYPH_INDEX and TS_NEG_INDEX_INDEX were set on theorderSupport field of the Order Capability Set.

Basically the RDP handshake was fine but neither FASTGLYPH_ORDER (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc241593.aspx) nor GLYPHINDEX_ORDER (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc241591.aspx) messages were being sent from the server to the client when targeting a Windows Server 2012 machine. Since by default Windows Server 2008 uses RDP 7 and Windows Server 2012 uses RDP 8, could glyph support have been dropped? Is there a way to configure Windows Server 2012 to support glyphs or revert it back to RDP 7?

My post on the FreeRDP forum: https://github.com/FreeRDP/FreeRDP/issues/1827

Thanks,

Michael

RemoteApp on MAC

Hi,

I've successufully installed TS 2008 with RemoteApp, so users are able to start applications from TS server through RDP tunnel. Problem apprears on MAC laptops: they are able to open file share with .rdp applications, but when they select it it opens Remote Desktop, not RemoteApp.

How to publish any applications for MAC users? Maybe publish it through Web Access? If yes - how I can do this?

Thnx!

IE Error in server 2012 R2

Configuration: Running Windows 2012 R2 on two servers and Windows 7 on a computer in the domain. One server acts as a DC the other server acts as a RDS server and the computer is a member of the domain.

Problem: IE doesn't work in any of the computers in the domain (except for the DC). I have another server with RDS on it. I have not yet configured OU's or any GPO's so there shouldn't be any restrictions?

The error I get is:

"This app cant open. Internet Exploere can't be open using the built in Administrator account. Sign in with a diferrent accounts and try again. "

I really don't know where to begin to find why its not working?

Even thought there is only one browser, I have tried to make IE the default browser via Default programs but still not workings?

Would you help me diagnose this issue and help fix it.

thanks
