Redirected Printer not picking up driver

Hi,

We have an issue with one of our photocopiers Sharp 2300 with Printer Redirection using Remote Desktop Services.

I install the x64 driver on my local machine (Windows 8 Pro) and x64 driver on the Remote Desktop Server - Using the same file, each time I login to the Remote Desktop server it redirects my printer fine.

The driver it is using "Remote Desktop Easy Print" - it should be picking up my Sharp 2300 Driver. I also downloaded the latest drivers and tried them still the same issue.

The only reason I am trying to get it to use the Sharp Driver is because when the user connects to Remote Desktop, the printer is redirected (using the Easy Print Driver) but when trying to adjust the properties to print in A3 it will always Print in A4.

The only way around this is to change the Local Computer properties to print on A3 and then log back on to Remote Desktop have the printer redirected and then you can print in A3. Then if you want to print in A4 you have to go through the same process again changing it to A4.

Hope someone has some suggestions I can try or point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this.

Thanks

Adam

Hi

I am looking for a advanced course in RDS 2012, but haven't really been able to locate anything.

I am not looking at the standard courses covering a wide range of Technologies, but more a Specific course targeting RDS 2012.

Optimally a Course would be 1 week and in the Europe Region. But any tips would be highly appreciated.

Start Menu and Startup folder redirection

$

Hi,

I'm running a Windows Server 2008 R2 terminal server.

I've set up a GPO to redirect the Start Menu folder to a network share, based on user groups and this works well.

[User Config/Policies/Windows Settings/Folder Redirection/Start Menu]

The same GPO also redirects each user's AppData(Roaming) path to a share. Each user has their own area, using the "Create a folder for each user under the root path" option.

What I would like is for users to be able to add items to their own Startup folder so they run upon login. However there isn't a GPO specifically for the Startup folder.

If I create a shortcut in the user's Roaming area (AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup) then it is not run upon login. I was expecting the Startup folder to be a merge of this area and the Startup folder in the Group-related redirected area - a bit like the All Users startup used to merge with the user's local Startup.

I've found that if I point HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Startup to the user's %AppData% path then startup items for that user run fine.

There are two problems with this, first the Startup folder in the Start Menu still points to the Group startup area, and is empty. To add things to user's Startup requires going to the share and adding them directly. Second problem, I'm not sure if the registry setting will get wiped out if the group policy changes - the registry edit could be a temporary fix and I don't want users to have to keep applying it.

Is there a recognised, official method of having a group Start Menu redirect, but still allowing individual users to have their own Startup folder?

TS licensing

I have an issue with TS Licensing, we are looking to change from per device to per user licensing

Scenario

TS Licesning Server shows 200 per device licenses and 400 per user licenses

We have new external users with a one way trust , therefore the device names are not known by the internal TS licensing server

All our TS Servers are set to per device licensing

My questions are as follows (Please Note fairly new to TS licensing and appologise if these questions sound stupid)

1. As the TS Licesning Server already shows per user licensing , am I safe to assume the user licenses are installed and no further config on the License server is required

2. I have read that changing the Terminal Servers to per user mode allows both the Per device and per user licenses to be assigned is this correct , or does the per user setting restrict it to per user licensing as the name suggests

3. When converting a TS to per user mode it can only be done once ie there is no going back if we find issues ?

Certificates for load balanced Web Access hosts

We are going to set up and load balance 2 Web Access hosts (Server 2012 R2) for our RDS deployment. The load balancing will be handled by a Cisco ACE. In a single node Web Access deployment, it is straightforward how to request the certificate: Go through the standard IIS process with the FQDN and service name, install, export the client cert and you are ready to go.

How should I do this with the 2 nodes? Load balancing and ACE are both WAY outside of my wheelhouse. I was thinking I would request multi-domain certs for both servers with the FQDN of each along with the service name, but our network engineer recommended against that.

Can anyone offer me any basic guidance?

Assigning Static IP Address to VMs Automatically When Created

I have Hyper-V 2012 with RDS, I want to create Pooled VMs, what I need here is when the VMs are created I want to assign static IP address to every one of them, I can also do this using a DHCP server but in this case I need to have static MAC address, is there a way to achieve this?

Remote Desktop Services is slow

I have 2 physical Windows 2012 R2 servers configured as Remote Desktop Session Hosts behind a RD Connection Broker. The servers have more than enough resources. I currently only have 11 users per server. And all my users are complaining it is too slow. The only thing coming to mind is slow responce from the User Profile Disks on my file server. It is a windows 2003 (SMB 1) server. Wil it perform better if I upgrade the server to 2012? Or should I migrate my users from UserProfile Disks toold fashionedroamingprofiles, and how do I do that?

WS2012: RDWeb: Signing Apps and Edit rdp Files

Hello,

I am currently trying to replace the old WS2008 RDWeb Server and have 2 issues with which someone can help me.

1.) When a clients connects he always gets the "Do you trust the publisher of this RemoteApp program"-dialog. In the old 2008 RDApp Manager I could easily define the certificate used an setup a GPO for this one, but how do I do that in Windows Server 2012 as the RDApp-Manager is gone?

2.) When trying to connect to a RDApp from a PC not with a VPN I get the error the that connection failed. The problem is that the clients wants to connect to the internal name of the server (rdweb.firm.local). So how can I change the rdp Connection to use the external URL?

Hope someone can provide help.

Thanks in advance

Paul

RemoteFX Usb Redirection in Remote Desktop Session Host Blue Screen

We are using RDSH on a hyper-v virtual guest Server 2012. When two thin clients connect using USB Redirection with a USB scale attached, the host blue screens. The error below is from the Memory.DMP file.

Duplicate PDO
A specific instance of a driver has enumerated multiple PDOs with
identical device id and unique ids.

Any pointers on this error would be appreciated. I understand RemoteFX Usb Redirection is supported with VDI. I'm under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that this set up should work with an RDSH server as well.

Remote Desktop Service 2012 - RDS Role Consolidation in fewer VMs

Hi,

We are building RDS 2012 for one of our business line apps. We have about 50 users that are going to be accessing the app but just 30 will be doing it concurrently.

We would like to reduce the number of servers that are going to be used by the RDS deployment so we would like to consolidate the RDS roles in fewer servers.

The current drawing shows the following servers:

2 servers RDG

2 server RDWA

2 servers RDCB

4 servers RDHS (This will remain this way)

We will be using KEMP LM to reverse proxy to the 2 RDG servers also the RDWA will be load balanced with KEMP as well.

Finally we will use the native Microsoft HA for the active-active RDCB deployment and we will place the DB on SQL 2012 Cluster.

That being said, we are trying to understand what roles are better coexisting within a single box and how the HA for that box should be configured.

For example should we configured RDG and RDWA together and then build a second box with the second roles for HA, how is the HA configuration is going to have to be configured, any issues with certificates, etc?

OR Should we place RDWA and RDCB togheter and then build a new server with the same roles for HA? Same questions here regarding HA deployment, certificates, etc.

We are looking for suggestions and reasons that will help us out to understand what is the best path to follow to get this implemented.

Thank you.

I can login into the rdweb site, but when I try and launch any app it fails then when I look on the server I receive the following error.

A fatal error occurred when attempting to access the SSL server credential private key. The error code returned from the cryptographic module is 0x8009030D. The internal error state is 10001.

Any ideas?

Regarding win 8.1 and connection to win 2012 r2

Hi,

I'm getting excellent connection from the connection status icon when im conneting using rdp 8.1. I've enabled udp and tcp in group policy, and i'm conneting directly to the session host.

However, it's not using UDP (i've disabled firewall on both ends). If i do an online test of the 3389 udp port, i get success.

Any suggestions?

We have a Terminalserver farm with 4 servers(2008 R2) participating in the farm.Randomly when users try to connect to using the farm name they get the error "The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy".The way to resolve the issue is to reboot the servers.

Steps tried from my end.

-Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client]
"Keep Alive Interval"=dword:00000001

Make the following registry changes on the terminal server:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server]
"KeepAliveInterval"=dword:00000001
"KeepAliveEnable"=dword:00000001

Disable TCP Chimney and Task Offload on all of the machines.

netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled

Any help on the same would be appreciated

Two MSTSCs and one WKSPRT, oh de doo dah day!

Hi,

I am implementing an enterprise SSO kiosk solution where we need to track the launch AND termination of an RDP session so if the session times out the workstation locks. Sounds simple? Not anymore.

We're using RDS 2012 R2 and the current Remote Desktop for Win7 (8.0), and it does some really bizarre process chaining to the point where it is just, well, unpredictable.

Using procmon we can see consistently that the workflow when launching the RDP file which connect to an RDS broker is as follows:

  1. mstsc.exe launches
  2. wksprt.exe (RemoteApp and Desktop Connection runtime) starts
  3. A new mstsc.exe process starts up.
  4. The original mstsc.exe then exits (sometimes!)
  5. wksprt.exe continues running.
  6. User disconnects or RDS session times out
  7. wksprt.exe terminates the mstsc.exe process it started OR
  8. the original one terminates
  9. About 7 seconds later, if either mstsc.exe session is still running, it terminates

The problem with this is it makes it nigh on impossible to properly monitor the user logon/logout workflow in any consistent way! We don't know from one iteration to the next, what it's going to do.

If we track the first MSTSC process only, we correctly detect the user logon AND the session disconnect from the client side, but only if that first instance is the one that presents the connection dialog. Every now and again the second MSTSC process is the one that presents the UI, not the first one, so step 4 leads us to think the user's RDP session has terminated when it's actually only just starting up.

And my particular favourite... every now and then, one MSTSC.EXE instance dies when the user disconnects but the other one sticks around for 7-8 seconds so if you place a dependency on the "logout detection" on BOTH instances disappearing there's an 8 second window where the PC is sat unlocked and anyone can break into the thin client desktop.

And of course, wksprt.exe doesn't die unless you kill it manually.

Window focus tracking works partially, but we don't want to end up having to do weird stuff like mitigating a user pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and breaking out to the local desktop by booting them out of their RDS session.

Does anyone have any ideas on how best to tackle this?

Server 2008 R2 RD Web Access + Server 2012 R2 Session Host with RemoteApps

I have a full Windows Server 2008 R2 environment. We are using the following servers and roles:
Windows Server 2008R2 – Gateway
Windows Server 2008R2 – Broker
Windows Server 2008R2 – 3 Session Hosts with RemoteApps installed
Windows Server 2008R2 – RD Web Access, Webserver, Sharepoint 2010 with TSportalwebpart installed

Everything is working fine. All the RemoteApps are visible on the TSportalwebpart on Sharepoint 2010.

Now I have installed a new Windows Server 2012 R2 machine with the Remote Desktop Services roles incl RD Web Access. I have also published some (test) RemoteApps. When I browse to the (default) RDWeb URL from of the Windows 2012 server from any server on the network I can see and start the Remote Apps.

My problem is that when I configure the TSportalwebpart on the Windows Server 2008R2 Sharepoint to use the new Server 2012 I don’t see any RemoteApps. On the webserver I see event ID 4 logged with: No programs on RD Session Host server “servername” are configured to display in RD Web Access. Verify the program settings on that server.

I have already checked the WMI settings on the 2012 server.

Does anyone know if a Sharepoint 2010 server using the webpart TSportalwebpart is compatible with RemoteApps on a Windows 2012 R2 server? Is it anyway possible to use a combination of a Server 2008 R2 with RD Web Access to load RemoteApps of a Server 2012 R2 machine?

Where is the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool in Server 2012 ?

Where is the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool in Server 2012 ?

This is an MMC snap-in found on earlier servers, even if RDS is not installed.  In Server 2012, even if the Remote Desktop Session Host role is installed, this tool is still not available.

I'm looking for the Server 2012 tool to adjust security settings like TLS authentication, High encryption level, choice of TLS certificate, NLA, etc.

Thanks!

RDP screen goes black after successful remote login

I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates.  Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.

Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.

The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.

I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.

I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do?  Any ideas about what might cause this?

Weird problem connecting rdsh collection (with rdbroker) when client one same subnet with a default ip gateway on nic

Hi.

As said in the title, I'm facing a strange issue.

When connecting to a rdsh farm through a broker with a client on the same subnet, all is normally functionning, the connection is very fast (1 or 2 seconds).

Precision for the client : windows 7 with the last rdp client update (rdp 8.0)

If the client (always on the same subnet as the server is) NIC is configured with a default gateway (on the same subnet too) the connection process is slowing down. It seems that the client is waiting (without doing anything on the network if I refer to wireshark or network monitor captures) after the security negociations with the broker. It waits around 30 seconds and then began to "talk" with one of the two rdsh in the farm.

It seems like internal ip program of the client acts differently when there is a default route ?????

Any ideas

Regards.

Pierre

I am having a strange problem with MSTSC, everytime a user tries running MSTSC it comes up with application error and closes on all the machines they are using.

They do have a roaming profile, so I am wondering whether the profile is corrupt but how can it affect running MSTSC?

I have logged onto the machine and tried running MSTSC and it works but I do have admin rights.

The OS is Windows XP SP3 and trying to connect to Server 2000.

2008 server cannot access via RDP

when I try to login to 2008 server via RDP (even using console switch) I get this error:

Requested operation cannot be completed because the terminal connection is currently busy processing a connect, disconnect, reset, or delete operation

how can I restart terminal services remotely?

using RDP manager on a second server, I do not seem to be able to clear it,

log off is not listed, my only options are :

connect (greyed out)

disconnect

send message

remote control

reset (greyed out)

stats (greyed out)

all remote control does is prompt me to hit the tab key and CTRL to end the remote session, but it does not end the session, just tells me access is denied.
