Black Window in RemoteApp After Minimize RDS2012/WIN8 & Multiple Monitors

$

Hi All,

I have a Server 2012 RDS farm with a handful of RemoteApps published.  I have about 150 users running these applications.  We are having issues with computers running Windows 8/8.1 that have multiple monitors.  We can run the RemoteApps fine but when we minimize the app and then try to restore it, we get a black window.  The only way to fix it is to right click the app in the taskbar, choose close window, and reopen the app.  This only seems to happen on Windows 8/8.1 machines with multiple monitors.  If I disconnect the second monitor then the app can be minimized and restored without issue.  The monitors in use do have different screen resolutions but this shouldn't matter as RDS is supposed to support this.  I have not seen this issue on any of my Windows 7 computers.  Is there any settings that I should be looking?  I don't think this is an app issue as I can recreate the problem using MS Word as a RemoteApp.  In most cases, additional monitors are connected via USB using DisplayLink devices.

Thanks for your help!

Roaming Profile - Error copying file (2012 R2)

Getting Event ID 1509 & 1540. 1540 is a generic error saying the profile failed and it is loading a local one. 1509 reads as follows:

Windows cannot copy file \\?\UNC\domain.com\Shared\RDSProfiles\user.V2\6A6DCA49-668C-4DD1-8A7F-9D5B61E8EE92.tmp to location \\?\C:\Users\user\6A6DCA49-668C-4DD1-8A7F-9D5B61E8EE92.tmp. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.

DETAIL - The system cannot find the file specified.

Looking in that folder on the network, the file definitely isn't there, so it make sense that it would fail to copy. This is happening across all profiles on this session host. The file name is exactly the same for all users.

Why is it trying to copy this file that doesn't exist at either location? How do I correct this so the roaming profile loads properly?

Is it possible to migrate local profiles to user profile disks?

Hi guys,

Is there an easy way to migrate local user profiles on an remote desktop server to user profile disks? I am replacing a Server 2008 R2 and want to start using UPD's instead on a Server 2012 R2.

Hasan

Windows 2012 R2 - Intermittent RDP Printing

$

Hello!

I have built a Windows 2012 R2 server with Remote Desktop Services running on it.  Remote users are having trouble with inconsistent printing through their RDP clients.  Their printers show up as redirected printers and do print sometimes, but other times nothing prints - the user click print, select their printer, and nothing shows up.  Later it will just start working for them again.  The problem seems to be universal - it is happening on clients with different versions of Windows, different printer models, and different printer manufacturers.  Has anyone seen this?  Are there any hotfixes for this that I can install?  I have all of the latest Windows Updates installed.

Thanks... Dave

Installing terminal server role on windows server 2012 to use for Windows server 2008 R2 machines.

Dear

Our current setup is as follows :-

Active Driectory is in Windows Server 2003.
Citrix Xenapp version 5.6 with all Xenapp servers in Windows Server 2003

Now we are upgrading our Citrix farm to 6.5 and all Xen app servers into Windows Server 2008R2.
We did the configuration and testing; everything works fine except the terminal server is not configured which gives the pop always for the expiry date.

We do have license for 2012 terminal server which is not possible to downgrade for some reason and managent need to install new Windows Server 2012 for terminal server and activte the licenses.

My question is :-
1 Whether Windows Server 2008 R2 will get RDS cal license from Windows Server 2012 terminal server (RDS CAL license is of windows server 2012).
2. What is the role and features I need to activate in Server 2012 in order to use for Citrix 6.5 (only applicable fetaure for getting the RDS cal license.)
3. Whether I can add this 2012 server into domain. Is it possible to add 2012 server into Windows Server 2003 AD.

Your early reply is highly appreciated.

SBS2011 RD Gateway Certificate Error

Hello All.  Thanks in advance for any input.

Brass Tacks - I need to know how to generate a new Self-Signed SSL Certificate.  The current one has the wrong URL name in the Subject.  ** I need to generate a new certificate with the CORRECT URL.

What the certificate currently has in the Subject: CN = Remote.ClientsDomain.com

Actual URL to get to the Remote Workspace:  Mail.ClientsDomain.com/Remote

Because of this discrepancy, I get the following error:   You can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server address requested and the Certificate Subject Name do not match.

I can connect to the Remote Workspace website.  I can log into OWA.  The ONLY time this certificate seems to be required and gives me this error is when trying to use the Remote Workspace RDP.

I am hoping not to have to run Domain Name wizard or something else major in order to do this, as I fear creating a duplicate... something... somewhere... that wreaks havoc somehow.

Thanks

RDS 2012 - Hide Server Resources in RemoteApp

$

Hello RDS experts!  I am struggling with what should be a simple solution with RemoteApp.  Here is my challenge:

I am sharing Internet Explorer from an RDS server to users.  I have a number of web applications that users cannot access either because of browser incompatibility or browser security settings, so I want to funnel them through RD Gateway and RDS to a Remote App.

I have the Gateway configured corrected and the internal RDS server as well, but I'm struggling with getting the correct user experience.

The users are going to need to save files and I want them to be able to save the files back on their remote machines without any hassle.  I understand from previous forum posts that mapping their remote drive "as the C: drive" just doesn't really work, but there's got to be something that I can do to hide the server drives.

I have tried the below articles:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/231289

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/75f72254-7ea0-43ce-91d9-ea2e333f7052/saving-files-from-a-remote-app-appv

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2011/05/26/how-to-restrict-users-from-accessing-local-drives-of-an-rd-session-host-server-while-using-remoteapp-programs.aspx

None of these seem to work with 2012 R2...or maybe it's just specific to the "Save As.." menu coming from IE.  Maybe if I had a full blown Windows Explorer (or now "File Explorer") then it would work right.

Can anybody shed any light on this, please be specific to the 2012 R2 implementation?  Or is there an easier way to do it?  I looked at user profile disks, but that seems like a bad option for me because I want the users to have their files once they are offline and disconnected from me...

Please help!!

Remote Desktop local printer redirection problem - Server 2012 Foundation

Hi,

I am trying to print from Windows Server 2012 Foundation to my local printer hosted on Windows 7.

When I enable local resources in the RDP client, I can see my printers on the server like redirected. All seems like no problem occured. But only print does not work. ;-)

I can see the document name in the queue with Error status.

I tried set up GP with disabling Easy print, the drivers are identical on both machines, event logs are clear.

The server is freshly installed, running only File server role. No Domain controller role is set. No Terminal Service is set (i think in Foundation is it not possible), only allowed RDP.

RDP client is the newest. I have not any problem to print from other servers (WS2003, WS2008R2) using this printer. Everytime is the printer automatically redirected to TS*** port and works.

I spent few hours searching solution with no effect.

Any idea? Many thanks!

Enable USB redirection on 2012 RDSH running on ESXi for thin client

What I have configured right now is Windows Server 2012 RDSH server installed on a ESXi 5.1 host.

I am going to be purchasing thin client machines that will need to use USB headphone/mic combo units.  I need to make sure that the USB redirection will work from the thin client to the RDSH RDP session.   I will NOT be using virtual machines on the server, only a terminal session.  Please help me with the following points.

1.  Is windows 8 embeded my only option?

2.  Does RemoteFX support USB redirection on server 2012 RDSH?

3.  I have not been able to find an applicable guide to help me with what I am doing.

Thank you

New Server 2012 R2 RDS Deployent

I need some help deploying a new Server 2012 R2 RDS server. It's a virtual server running on 2012 R2 Hyper-V. It is replacing an old 2003 Terminal server. All I am looking for is basic functionality, I do not need gateway services, remoteapps, etc.

What I have is about 5-10 users who need to log in to run some programs that are available on the LAN. Previously on 2003 they would login as themselves using an RDP client from Windows PCs and some Macs. Everything I am reading on 2012 just over-complicates things and I would like to keep it a similar as they are used to now.

What is the best way to configure this? I would like them to each have their own desktop, and not have access to any server settings.

I know this is a pretty simple question, but I haven't really dealt with RDS since it was terminal services back in Server 2003, and a lot has changed.

Configure RDS user desktop environment

I'm a newb to RDS, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I'm using Windows Server 08 for an educational lab environment, where a user will get an account and get access to a desktop to bemused for the class lessons.

The desktop configuration, icons, etc. all need to match the course material exactly, so we can document step by step instructions for all the lab assignments.    To do this, I want to define the desktop and environment configuration once - and then use that config for any new user added to the system.

Can someone point me in the right direction for defining that reference image and assigning it to new users?

Thanks for any help!

Hi all

I got a problem to add the RD virtualization host.

I deployed RDS for test.
-1 virtual RD Connection Broker (Windows Server 2012)
-1 virtual RD Web Access (Windows Server 2012)
-1 RD Virtualization host 1 (Windows Server 2012)

Then I created Pool managed collection. worked well.

But I add another RD virtualization host from RD Connection Broker is failed.
"Could not add the RD Connection Broker server to the TS Virtual Desktop Server settings on the RD Virtualization host 2"

I checked RDMS overview, there is RD Virtualization host 2. but I can't create collection or add virtual desktop.

I also checked event viewer, found some logs below,
(1) Error
  -Source:TerminalServices-SessionBroker
  -Event ID:1537
  -Description:
VM host [RD Virtualization host 2] is not being added to the broker or not currently running.

(2) Error

(3) Error
  -Source:TerminalServices-SessionBroker

  -Description:
The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database.

Any ideas?

Server 2008 R2 RD Web Access + Server 2012 R2 Session Host with RemoteApps

I have a full Windows Server 2008 R2 environment. We are using the following servers and roles:
Windows Server 2008R2 – Gateway
Windows Server 2008R2 – Broker
Windows Server 2008R2 – 3 Session Hosts with RemoteApps installed
Windows Server 2008R2 – RD Web Access, Webserver, Sharepoint 2010 with TSportalwebpart installed

Everything is working fine. All the RemoteApps are visible on the TSportalwebpart on Sharepoint 2010.

Now I have installed a new Windows Server 2012 R2 machine with the Remote Desktop Services roles incl RD Web Access. I have also published some (test) RemoteApps. When I browse to the (default) RDWeb URL from of the Windows 2012 server from any server on the network I can see and start the Remote Apps.

My problem is that when I configure the TSportalwebpart on the Windows Server 2008R2 Sharepoint to use the new Server 2012 I don’t see any RemoteApps. On the webserver I see event ID 4 logged with: No programs on RD Session Host server “servername” are configured to display in RD Web Access. Verify the program settings on that server.

I have already checked the WMI settings on the 2012 server.

Does anyone know if a Sharepoint 2010 server using the webpart TSportalwebpart is compatible with RemoteApps on a Windows 2012 R2 server? Is it anyway possible to use a combination of a Server 2008 R2 with RD Web Access to load RemoteApps of a Server 2012 R2 machine?

Is this the right thing for me / How Does Remote Desktop Services work?

Hi I am a newbiee at Servers and all that relate to it and i am trying to find out  if remote desktop may be what we need in our company.

What I am looking for is a solution where which ever softwares installed in the server is available to everyone in the company through a (shared/floating licences), they can use the server to store and share documents and exchange emails and all this should be achived through a single login to the a server for each user from any operating system. can this be offered with RDS?

If i understand correctly in order to access the resources on the server using a remote laptop i.e at another location you would have to use Remote Desktop Services and usually the process is as follow

Laptop at another location -----> using a software it connects you to PC at work -----> which  Connects you to the Sever

is this correct?

following this understanding i have the following additional question,

1.  Is it possible to access the resources on the server directly i.e from a Laptop without having to go trough a desktop stetioned in an office? and if so will the programes accessed there work just as well as they would if they were running on the used computer?

2. If I have installed a software on the server, for example "Visual studio" using a single licence and we have 15 employees in the company who require to use it, do I have to purchase 14 more licences or is the 1 licence shared amongst the 15 people? and does this apply to other programs aswell.

Thanks in advance

Always get double logon prompt one Window 2008 R2 when using credential provider

$

Dear,

I am developing a custom credential provider (CP for short) for my business. I plan to use that CP to replace the built-in credential provider. My service works with Terminal Service to run remote application via RDWeb but uses my custom CP instead of the built-in CP. When testing with RDWeb default page, I'm always prompted for credentials twice: first is the built-in and the second is my custom CP. Custom Provider Filter doesn't help here. From my point of view, the first prompt is useless because I don't need to provide valid information to pass that prompt (just type anything on username/password). My configuration of RDP connection is: TCP transport and RDP Security Layer without Network Level Authentication After that, I get to the second prompt of my custom CP. My question is that:
- Is there any ways to get rid of the first prompt (that is useless) ?

Beside the custom CP, I also developed another custom Authentication Package (call AP for short) which does not base on the username/password authentication. I learnt that build-in AP MSV1_0 work as following:

- Everytime WinLogon wants to logon a user to the system, it calls LsaLogonUser, specifying its own LSA logon process Handle, the Package ID of Msv1_0 and the user’s username and password in the call. This ends up in LsaApLogonUserEx implemented in MSV1_0.DLL, here the user’s username and password are authenticated using the SAM Database (local or remote), and if the authentication was successfull, a logon session is created calling LsaCreateLogonSession assigning to it a LogonId (LUID) generated by the package. After this, MSv1_0 adds supplementary credentials to the logon session by calling LsaAddCredential, this credential happen to be the user’s username, domain name and LM/NT hashes of his/her password. This information is then used by the LAN Manager and other services when the user attempts to access remote nodes.

My question is what is input for LsaAddCredential. I developed a sample AP and it works with the local user account but I got the error for domain account "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done". From my opinion, I think my call for LsaAddCredential is not correct. Could you please enlighten me on this ?

Hi

I have purchased w2k8 r2 volume license for WinRmtDsktpSrvcsCAL and userCAL. When I download the license key from VLSC there is only w2k8 product key available for this server. After activate the server with this product key then I enabled the server's remote desktop service role and when i installed the role it says I have 120 days remaining to activate the remote desktop service. Now question is-

Why it says 120 days remaining ?
how i activate the remote desktop service?

where i will find the activation key for the remote desktop service ?

Thanks. <o:p></o:p>
