RDS 2012 "Disconnect all connections" from command line

Hello!

We are using RDS 2012 and Windows 8 clients. Sometimes there is a need to disconnect all RemoteApp connections. The easiest way is to find "Connected to RemoteApp and Desktop Connection" icon in a tray and to choose "Disconnect all connections" there, but frequently it's hard to explain to user by phone how to do it.

Better approach here is to put "Disconnect" shortcut on user's desktop. Unfortunately, I haven't found any way to disconnect all connections from cmd (or alternatives such as vbs or Powershell).

Is there a way to create such shortcut/script? Thanks in advance.

WS2012 + RD Gateway + RemoteApps : multiple nuisances (UDP not used, certificate warnings)

Hi all

I've configured an all-in-one WS2012 Remote Desktop server with RD Gateway and RDWeb, serving RemoteApps to a distant location. The RD Gateway listens on 8388 TCP (because 443 is already taken on my NAT) and 3391 UDP. The RDWeb similarly listens on 8388.

Since the gateway is not listening on the standard port, I had to run this command http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/6ed0845a-1a51-4c05-8331-ece9c0eb73fa/remote-desktop-gateway-port?forum=winserverTS to tell RDWeb to write the correct TCP port in the webfeed it distributes (and I am NOT comfortable with having to do it manually since the UDP port is an UI-changeable setting, but I digress...).

RemoteApps open fine from the remote location... except UDP is not used. Connections show up in the RD Gateway Monitoring as HTTP, not UDP. Also a direct MSTSC connection to the server doesn't use UDP (it doesn't appear in the signal bars text).

But I am sure that:

1) public address's port 3391 is correctly UDP-mapped to the Gateway, tested with network monitor
2) the TS is listening on UDP 3389 (RDP) and 3391 (RD Gateway), tested with netstat
3) my Win7 client uses UDP when connecting to other Win8 workstations at my company, and these Win8 clients won't use UDP when connecting to the TS
4) even though UDP is not used, I see packets in the network monitor, coming and going to port 3389

What can I do to address this?

I have two more questions.

1) I'm inclined to think that for full UDP usage, remote NAT'ted client would need to be in a DMZ, otherwise how are they going to receive UDP packets coming back from the server?

2) Unrelated to this: the Best Practice Analyzer in Server Manager found that the RD Gateway certificate is invalid; needless to say, other parts of the same Server Manager (RDS > Collections > Edit Deployment Properties > Certificates) think otherwise, so does the RD Gateway manager. God fashioned panels...

Thank you for any answer...

Single mstsc.exe task for all RemoteApp

When I start 1st RemoteApp - Windows starts mstsc.exe task.

When I start 2nd RemoteApp (it's hosted on another Terminal Server) Windows DOES NOT start one more mstsc.exe, it just adds memory for the first started task. And so on.

If I have launched 4 RemoteApps which use different Terminal Servers, then I have only 1 mstsc.exe task anyway. In our company we use third-party print program which runs with mstsc.exe task. And in last example it would work only for the 1st started RemoteApp and the remaining 3 would have nothing.

If I connect to different Terminal Servers via default mstsc.exe tool, Windows starts task for every connection. The problem (?) is exactly in RemoteApp.

Tested on Windows 7 SP1 x32 and Windows XP SP3 x32. I've installed last updates for RDP.

RDP client cannot connect to Windows Server 2012 RDS through connection Broker HA servers

Hi,

I have the following installation all installed on Windows Server 2012

  • RDHS01    Remote Desktop Host Server 1
  • RDHS02    Remote Desktop Host Server 2
  • RDCB01    Remote Desktop Connection Broker 1
  • RDCB02    Remote Desktop Connection Broker 2
  • RDLS01    Remote Desktop Licensing Server 1

The RDCB servers are installed in HA and there have been created two DNS records with the name RD that points to each connection broker server.

When I tried to connect to the connection brokers using the rd DNS record I got the following error:

"The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login".

According to this blog I had to add som information to the .rdp file to get it to Work with connection brokers in HA setup.

After adding this information I now get this error instead:

"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the connection broker couldn't validate the settings specified in your RDP file. Contact your Network administrator for assistance".

I have checked the .RDP file many times but cannot find eny errors.

Any good suggestions to what could be wrong?

RDS and ESXi

I have an ESXi 5.1.0 server (intel xeon) with 5 VM's running on it. Two of those VM's were intended to be Server 2012 Terminal Services Session Servers. I am new to server 2012, and RDS, and I didn't realize that I couldn't nest the virtualization inside ESXi. I have followed two tech.net articles on proper setup of RDS for session host and what I've resulted in is having the web gateway working, but only for RDP access directly into the server since I cannot add the Hyper-V role and begin to setup sessions for those connections to be routed to.

So I guess my question is two fold;

A) Can you confirm that I cannot get RDS up and running on my ESXi Virtual Server 2012

B) Which virtual environment can this setup exist stably?

Hi.

I have a W 2008 R2 Ent. server with TS

I have VPN on the TS configured with a L2TP/Ipsec connection to connect to a customer site

Users will remote into the server, and make a VPN connection (click on shortcut to start VPN) and access the customer's site. This has worked OK for 2 years often with several users logged into the TS via RDP.

Recently users are encountering this problem: User A logs into the TS, makes VPN connection, accesses customer site. User B logs into the TS, user A's VPN connection is broken immediately. It seems to happen every time - not sporadic.

Can I get some suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

Drives not mapping, not enough storage to process this command

Hi,

I have two Windows Server 2012 R2 (1xDC and 1RDS) and 15 people working currently on the rds. Now after ca. 9 people logged in on the rds and working and a other wants to login, it happens that it doesen't map all the network drives.

The server logged the following:

English:

The user "S" setting item in the GPO "<policy> {9AE9FC78-97CA-4746-9AAC-70B0D85F0E92}" was not used because of error. Error code: "0x80070008 for this command is not enough memory available." This error was suppressed ..

Source: Group Policy Drive Maps

ID: 4098

Level: Warning

User: System

But both server got 15 GB of RAM and they're using only 50% of it. Now the virtual memory is system managed.

What i tried:

- Increased IRPStackSize (on both servers)

- Manually set the virutal memory to a fixed range

And sometimes it happens that a network drive is lost during the session (autodisconnect disabled).

And every login the server says that "The loading of user configuration from server "\ \<server.domain>" for user "User" by the Remote Desktop Services has taken too long."

Access Denied on downloading files in an RDS session

I'm running Server 2012 Datacenter as a Domain Controller AND a Remote Desktop Server. My understanding is that this is a supported configuration as of mid-September of this year.

However, whenever a user is logged in and they try to download a file from IE, they get an error: "Access is denied." Users have no problem creating files from, say, Word or creating files from Explorer, but they cannot download from IE.

I'm using User Profile Disks and just don't see any issues on the server at all.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Hello everyone,

I'm evaluating Windows Server 2012 as a RDS-server. Now I was trying to install a evaluation copy of Office 2013 Professional Plus. As many of you already know it's not possible. :) How do I know if it performs well in RDS? Is there a way to test Office 2013 on RDS? Didn't find any information related to this topic...

Thanks in advance

Server 2008 DPI settings

$

We are running Windows Server 2008 SP2 as a Terminal Server and have a visually impaired user. The users local machine (Windows 7) is set to 150dpi text under ease of access center, for some reason the terminal server is not picking up the settings as I am led to believe it should be when the user establishes an RDP connection. I have tried everything and made sure both machines are fully updated, added the user to admin group and tried again, disabled the group policy on the terminal server etc. Obviously I can change the DPI as an admin but it will change it for every user, I just need the DPI changed for this one user.

Can anyone help? I really need to get this sorted and is not something I have had to do before.

Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac does not remember saved bookmarks

I launched MS Remote Desktop App, created several bookmarks, and tested the bookmarks successfully. Then I exited MS Remote Desktop App. Then I re-launched the app and found all bookmarks were gone. Then I re-created the bookmarks, tested them successfully, and exported them to a folder. Then I exited MS Remote Desktop App again. Then I re-launched the app and found all bookmarks were gone, just like before. So I imported my saved bookmarks. That worked semi-OK (it's a different bug, in which the connection names are lost and the bookmark's connection name is set to the pc name). I then close the app, relaunched it, and again found the save bookmarks were missing.

In MS Remote Desktop for Mac app, importing of bookmarks causes connection names to be lost and instead the bookmark's connection name is set to the pc name.

RDP screen goes black after successful remote login

$

I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates.  Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.

Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.

The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.

I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.

I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do?  Any ideas about what might cause this?

Office 2013 windows 'pop-under' when run as remote apps on Server 2008R2 from Windows 7 clients

$

We have an environment with Windows 7 clients running Office 2013 via RDS on Windows Server 2008R2.

When users double click emails from Outlook, they 'pop-under', forcing the user to relocate the window which has fallen behind the application's primary window, leaving behind a slight redraw of what is supposed to be the pop-up window. Users also experience difficulty opening application menu/help items and any other dialogue boxes in any/all of the other Office 2013 apps we've deployed via RDS.

This issue persists only on Win7 PCs (WinXP does not exhibit this behaviour). The RDP clients range from 6.2.92 to 6.1.7601

Dear all,

I have having issue with a third party application on my RDS server (Win 2008R2 Std).

Only the userid (in grp local admin) used to install the application is able to run and execute the application.

Consequently other users, they can see the icon for the app (when thye login on the RDS server) but when accessing same they get the error "Class not registered. Looking for object with CLSID".

When login on the rds server with another local admin account, i cannot see the app in the control panel???

i only see it in con panel with the id i used to install it !!!

Test that i have done are:

- i have a list of users 1,2,3 in the local admin grp on the rds server.

- i have uninstalled the app again and install it with user 2 this time - then the app works fine for user 1 & 2. BUT not for user 3.

- when i re-install the app with user3, then the app works fine with user1, 2, 3.

Why this behaviour of my rds server???

an urgent solution will be much apreciated.

i have lots of users, whereby i do not want to put the users in the local admin grp !!!
