Webcam Redirection on Server 2016

$

Hello,

currently we want to use Microsoft Teams on Windows Server 2016 RDSH and try to use webcam (integrated camera) redirection from local clients.

On client side (Windows 10 1903) i checked the webcam in the local devices and ressources.

On server side i set the following gpos:

- Allow audio and video playback redirection: Enabled

- Allow audio recording redirection: Enabled

- Do not allow supported Plug and Play device redirection: Disabled

- Do not allow video capture redirection: Disabled

Also we activated the redirection in the session collection. I noticed that here is no setting equal to the video capture redirection existing.

The integrated webcam is not being redirected to the server. Unfortunately we have not usb camera to test it with usb redirection.

Is ist possible to get our planned scenario working or is it not possible to redirect the camera into the remote connection? I read that it should be possible with server 2019, but i cannot find any information about server 2016.

I thank you in advance for your answers and ideas.

Kinde regard

Oliver

Multiple duplicate RDS CAL license use for RDS servers

$

Hi

I have administration servers RDS Win2016 Server name serv1 with per user licensing and next RDS Win2016 Server name serv2 with per dev licensing.

From this RDS servers we connect myself to RDS cluster with per dev licensing. This RDS cluster have 3 Windows 2016 Servers. On license server I see multiple issued RDS CALS for this two RDS servers serv1 and serv2.

I used power shell script OutTSlicense for looking information about issued license for devices from RDS cluster. We have a lot off issued license for administration server serv1 and serv2. For different devices thin client and windows desktop I don't have duplicate license use.

When I connect from serv1 RDS Windows 2016 Server to my RDS cluster should be issued 1 per device RDS CAL license for serv1 but are issued 12 CALS. On  serv1 work only 5 users.

Information from OutTSlicense script issued CALS:

hostname hardwareid

serv1     00024c4c454458100043c0b15680324b354f

serv1     00024c4c454458100043c0b15680324b354f

.........

I have 12 issued RDS DEV CALS for one server with this same hardwareid.

While this consume me multiple CALS?

Installing Remote Desktop Session Host

Hi,

I need to install (Remote Desktop Session Host).

After installing the service (Remote Desktop Session Host) shows the message: (Remove Desktop licensing mode is not configured).

After 119 days I need to install the Remote Desktop Licensing service on the same server and install user licenses, right?

Can I leave (Remote Desktop Licensing) installed and still work for 119 days?

Thank you.

Remote Desktop to Always On VPN client

I have a number of Always On VPN clients (using system tunnels) configured at our site...and it would be helpful to be able to connect via remote desktop to the Always On VPN clients for remote diagnostics/maintenance.

Is there a way to register the Always On VPN system tunnel interface as a potential interface for RDP services to listen on? The following registry locations do not have entries for the Always On VPN tunnel:

  • HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\lanatable
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkCards

Using Wireshark to monitor network traffic, I can see traffic is being routed as expected through the VPN connection...it's just a matter of getting the RDP listener to listen on this particular interface and allow the connection.

hi,

i have some problems with a remoteapp deployment.
on the perimetral network accessible from the internet from public ip there is a reverse proxy that serve some sites with publicdomain.it . All is working fine.
Behind this object, in the internal network, with a private ip address i'm deploing a remoteapp architecture.
2 virtual machine with MS server 2019 joined in a local domain like "domain.local".

vm1.domain.local: iis rdweb + rd gateway + connection broker

vm2.domain.local: rd session host

I have
- installed in the rd gateway a ssl certificate from public CA

- changed external fqdn of rdgateway and connection broker (the last one with the powershell script Set-RDPublishedName.ps1

From internet I can connect to the iis default web site page (microsoft blue page) without errors BUT

when i add    /rdweb to the url ... the browser try to contact the private ip ...

What i'm missing ?

Windows 10 1903 - RemoteApp laggs

$

Hi,

Just wanted to share some knowledge, regarding the use of RemoteApps with Windows 10 1903 clients.

We have for the past 200+ days, been in dialog with Microsoft, regarding RemoteApp lag.

When using / moving RemoteApps around the screen, there would be an delay in moving. You can simply see the mouse is seconds ahead of the window, that is being dragged.

The issue is only present in RemoteApps, but works in  Full desktop mode, using the same RDS collection.

We tested this on the following platforms:

Clients:

Windows 10 - 1709 - Works

Windows 10 - 1803 - Works

Windows 10 - 1809 - Works

Windows 10 - 1903 - Dont work

RemoteApp Servers (RDSGW, RDSCB, RDSH):

Windows server 2012 R2 - works with all clients, except for Windows 10 1903.

Windows server 2016 - works with all clients, except for Windows 10 1903.

Windows server 2019 - works with all clients, except for Windows 10 1903.

Just like in Windows 10 1803, Microsoft had some severe issues with RemoteApp, but replacing the mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll files, from a build prior to 1803, fixed the issue. This is also true in the Windows 10 1903 build.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f3e9852b-393c-4aa0-9d2f-961a82cfc603/remoteapp-after-windows-10-update-1803-are-slow-and-right-mouse-button-is-not-responding-it-reacts?forum=winserverTS

After alot of frustrations, we figured the root cause - the mouse!

If using an high-end mouse like Razor, Steelseries or Logitech gaming mouses, then the issue is present.

When changing to a regular mouse, like an standard Dell or HP, the problem disappears instantly.

After this finding, Microsoft have choosen to close the case...

According to Microsoft its not Windows 10 1903 that is the root cause, but instead several large and independent mouse manufacturers (Logitech, Razor, Steelseries, etc), that is the root cause. But using the same mouse on other Windows 10 versions, works perfectly... Also if replacing the mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll in the 1903 build, using the files from 1809, works with the high-end mouses.

Hopefully someone find this post, before spending enormous amount of time tracking this down... :)

Licenses and Expiration

Installed a new 2019 RDS license Server and 2019 Per User CALS. The old license server was 2016.

1. The RDS Servers right now are 2016 so when a user logged in i see a built-in Overused licence being used. Do i need to install 2016 User licenses or ok since i have the 2019 licenses installed. We plan to move to 2019 over the next 7 months

2. If a license is being used on the old license server do i have to wait until it expires before it will try to contact the new server and then will start using licenses on the new server?

Server 2019 RDS, winlogon and rdp failures

Hi all. I have a 2019 Standard server running RDS. This is a fairly new build and appears to be up to date patch wise. I'm having users periodically report retrying connections (black window with the retrying 1 of 20 box). Sometimes, instead of reconnecting, we are asked to log back in (full on Other user, enter user and pass). There are a total of 7 users that remote into this VM and it's been reported/experienced by all (myself included).

It's happened twice in the last 15 minutes or so and the first one was a winlogon.exe crash, the other was svchost... with module rdpnano.dll. I'll paste the appropriate event logs below. I only found one other post about this (specifically rdpnano.dll) on this forum and the OP never replied, so I started this thread. Would like help ironing this out.

This is the svchost error. (App log - Event ID 1000)

Hi,

A site i now managed which has a 2012 r2 server which is the terminal server and a 2016 Server which is the licensing server as well as an sbs 2011 server which is the DC has a small problem. Users inside the lan can rdp fine, but external users get this error - a A Licensing error occurred while the client was attempting to connect (licensing timed out).

Any idea's?

Windows does not remember “select your primary button” setting with Remote Desktop

I have "select your primary button" set to "right". However, when I connect via Remote Desktop, this setting (for that very same user) is set to "left". If I change it back to "right" (while connected via RDC) it works fine...until I disconnect and connect again, and then the setting goes back to "left".

Hi,

My environment is :

1 x TS Server domain-joined Remote Desktop Session Host Role on Windows Server 2016 (Network Level Authentication enabled).

1 x APP Server domain-joined windows Server 2016 (Network Level Authentication disabled )

Both server windows firewall is disabled.

I have domain user called UserA on created DC. Both server local remote desktop users group already added.

When attempting to connect to APP server through RDP on TS Server then I got the following the error.

An internal error has occurred error.

I have checked regedit about NLA on both server.

TS Server : Y_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp SecurityLayer:2

APP Server : Y_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp SecurityLayer:2

Dear Sir,

I have 2 RD session Hosts for 2 different purposes and they are a bit confusing in same icon and I would change them to different icons.

Only one solution for windows 2012 was found but it doesn't work on Windows 2019.

I also tried to look for remotedesktop command but it only can change the icon for RemoteApp but it seem not for Remote Desktop.

Does any expert have an advice / idea on that change? Thx in advance

RDS 2016 - Start Menu freeze

$

Hi all,

We're currently experiencing issues at a random interval with regards to freezing start menu's on Server 2016 RDS Hosts.
When the freeze happens we can see the following items in the eventlog: Event ID 5973

Seems to be related on a per user base, as multiple users can connect to the RDS server but only a few of them are experiencing issues.

We are using User Profile Disks and Start Menu redirection. Any thoughts?

"Activation of app Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy!CortanaUI failed with error: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."

"Activation of app Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy!CortanaUI failed with error: The RPC server is unavailable. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."

RDS 2012 Users Getting Kicked - Pointer Device Error?

$

Hey guys, I'm having issues with my client's 2012 RDS

Everything on the server runs pretty well, and it works great if I access it at console, but anyone who remotes in will experience a freeze every few minutes. The mouse and keyboard inputs stop working, but you can still see activity on the screen (like a persistent ping still running or resmon updating resource usages) then the user will be kicked and reconnected after about 20 seconds or so.

I'm getting the below errors and I've looked all over for a solution and nobody has provided one through the years of forum posts and support topics. I've just started getting this problem myself. These are the only errors that seem to tie in with the problem.

Event ID 265 A pointer device did not report a valid unit of angular measurement
Event ID 257 A pointer device reported a bad angular physical range
Event ID 258 A pointer device reported a bad angular logical range

I've seen a few posts where these same event IDs are related to some volume extending issue. I am NOT EXTENDING VOLUMES please don't link me to those posts just because they "have a solution." My volumes have hundreds of gigabytes of space and are fine.

As this only happens with remote accounts (from several different PCs, whether it's multiple users connecting or just me as the admin) and not at console, I'd suspect if it's actually a pointer device then there might be an issue with whichever driver/connector service that controls the cursor? I've tried reinstalling all pointing devices in device manager already.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or insight, this is driving me crazy (and it's a bit of a kick in the teeth since I'd like to not have them using Server 2012 to begin with)

RDS deployment type

Hi,

I deployed RDS using (Add roles and Features Winzard) and (Role-based or feature-based installation) and chose (Remote Desktop Services). However, I don't have control of some settings that I see when I deploy using the option (Remote Desktop Services installation) and Quick start.

For example:

In QuickSessionCollection on proprieties I have several options like: (User Groups, Sessions, Security, Client Settings and User Profiles Disk).

But when I chose Quick Start he installed RD Web Access, but I don't want to use it.

I want to use only (Remote Desktop Session Host), but I want to have this configuration console with all these options.

Could I install RDS using Quick Start and then remove RD Web Access for example? Or is there any other way to use only the RD Session host but have all these option controls like: (User Groups, Sessions, Security, Client Settings and User Profiles Disk)?

Thank you.

When connecting to a user via remote desktop Manager if the user is pointed to something I don't see a change in the cursor position. Only visible if the user clicked on something. (the user says that he moves the mouse at me it is in 1 position). Is it possible to see the user's mouse movement?
