RemoteApp GPO is not applying for users without local admin access

My organization is planning on deploying AX 2012 R3 Client via RemoteApp for all our users. I am currently testing this out with RDS installed on a single Windows 2012 R2 Server, but in the future I will set up a new Server 2016 RDS environment for this.

I am having issues publishing the RemoteApp URL via GPO to my users. It will only work if the user has local administrator access on their PC. This cant be how it's supposed to work? I am planning on deploying this to hundreds of users! If the user manually adds it into the Control Panel Item it works. They are asked to log on once, and they just use their own credentials and it works fine.

The event log tells me this. "Windows failed to apply the {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} settings. {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link."

Notes:
- I have figured out that the GUID the RemoteApp settings.
- The GPO shows up as an applied GPO in gpresult /h.
- I am sure I have seen the error "access denied" somewhere but I cant remember where now.

Reference to this thread where another admin had similar issue: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/21362dc1-24be-48ff-8447-2ca80d068d8c/rds-remoteapp-url-gpo?forum=winserverGP#21362dc1-24be-48ff-8447-2ca80d068d8c

Anyone have a clue of what may cause this? Why does this only work for users with local administrator access? Is there maybe some other GPO that blocks it?

Cannot Publish a New App to Remote Desktop Services - Could not create a published application instance

Windows Server 2019, 1809.  Single server at this time.

I have had RDS working for several months and running numerous applications.  The certificate is up to date and all apps available run fine.

Added a new application to the server and then tried to publish the app.  Upon saving, I received the error:

Could not create a published application instance on server [Internal server name].

However, it created the app in REMOTEAPP PROGRAMS.  I then tried to update the app to set security settings and put the app into a subfolder.  Upon saving, got the same error.  I looked in event viewer and it just states the same thing.  Even though the app is listed in REMOTEAPP PROGRAMS, it is not listed in the Win10 Remote Desktop App underApps or when using the webpage.

Per other forum listings, I tried re-applying my SSL cert and rebooting, to no avail.  Anyone have any other ideas?

Domain users unable to logon to remote desktop server

Hi,

My environment is :

1 x TS Server domain-joined Remote Desktop Session Host Role on Windows Server 2016 (Network Level Authentication enabled).

1 x APP Server domain-joined windows Server 2016 (Network Level Authentication disabled )

Both server windows firewall is disabled.

I have domain user called UserA on created DC. Both server local remote desktop users group already added.

When attempting to connect to APP server through RDP on TS Server then I got the following the error.

An internal error has occurred error.

I have checked regedit about NLA on both server.

TS Server : Y_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp SecurityLayer:2

APP Server : Y_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp SecurityLayer:2

Upgraded win 7 to win 10, now MS Office products display as white frame in remote desktop connection

I upgraded my desktop to Win 10 from Win 7 and now I can not access any Microsoft Office products on it when connecting from another computer using Remote Desktop Connection.

All MS Office products like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, when started on the RDC server system, displays only a white frame on the RDC client system.

It is a problem with the newly upgraded Win 10 server computer, as connecting to it with RDC on a Win 10 computer and a Win 7 computer produces the same white frames.

Other applications like Adobe Photoshop display normally in the RDC remote session.  It is only microsoft office that shows a white frame.

Going back to the server computer and logging in locally shows the (for example) window with Word in it displaying completely normally locally, but as a white frame remotely.

I have seen other people posting with this problem.

I have deleted the graphics drivers on the server system then restarted to reinstall them - no change.

Does anyone know why all of a sudden MS Office applications running on a win 10 system upgraded from win 7 just display a white frame when viewed through a remote desktop connection?

RDP Client doesn't disconnect

I am using RDP client on Windows 8.1 to connect to a remote computer running Windows 7 Pro. When I click the "disconnect" option in the remote window (next to "logoff" on the "Start" menu) nothing happens. I can still disconnect by closing the remote windows with the x button. It used to work fine.

Any idea ho to fix it?

Remote Desktop Services License Server

I am looking for best practises when it comes to RDS License Servers in a greenfield environment.

If you build two I assume you put your full license count on both servers and they run as active/active? Or would you have one powered down and power on if required?

IF the RDS License server (configured for Per User licensing) went offline,is there a period where users will continute to log in or they can't until the License Server is back online?

Remote Desktop deployment Fails: Unable to create the session collection

Hello all!

I am trying to install Remote Desktop Services (Roles: RD Connection, RD Session Host, RD Web Access) on Server 2019 that was previouse installed on the same server, where at the time it was on Server 2008 R2. This is a part of a server upgrade. Before upgrading the server I uninstalled the RDS roles then upgraded it from 2008t2 -> 2012 ->2012r2-> 2019. Up running the RDS deployment I am stuck at what is shown in the screen shot. I don't have a background in RDS so I have just been following guides and blogs but can't see me to find anything on this error. I am guessing there is a specific group policy that I need to create?

In case you can't see it full, the error reads as follows:

Failed:
Unable to create the session collection. The property UserAuthenticationRequired is configured by using Group Policy settings. Use the Group Policy Management Console to configure this property.

User gets Access Denied launching remote app after working without a problem previously

Looking for some assistance in starting to debug an issue which is causing a lot of user frustration. We have a small scale Remote Desktop Services. Single management server and singe session host server.

Users can login to the RD Web Access and launch a remote app without an issue and work as normal. All of a sudden at some point in the day or on another day after disconnecting and reconnecting they now get a Access Denied message when launching the remote app and logging in.

The only way to resolve this issue is by rebooting the session host server. We have now resorted to rebooting the session host server every evening but still get the issue appearing at some point later in the day around 17:00.

We cannot see anything obvious in the event logs.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance or guidance.

RDP port ESTABLISHED but fail to connect

We have a Windows 10 PC at work that we use often to RDP to from home. Recently, we are no longer able to connect and it gives an error"This computer can't connect to the remote computer. The two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted". Checked all available solutions online, but still no luck. The netstat command shows the port is ESTABLISHED with the client PC.  And the log Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager%4Operational.evtx shows the following msg: "RD Session Host Server role is not installed". Googled it, but didn't see anything mentioning a Windows 10 RDP server needs that or how to install the role.

The firewall on the RDP server has been turned off temporarily. The PC had been restarted a few times. We can ping the PC, and we can access it using TeamViewer.

Any suggestion what to check next will be appreciated.

RDS with Multifactor Authentication that works with Macs?

$

Hi,

My org currently uses RDS 2012 R2 and we use the "Microsoft Remote Desktop" application for a lot of users to be able to access our environment from Apple and android devices. Words come down that Multi-factor authentication is a priority going forward and I am currently configuring a RDS environment built on Server 2019 that uses the Azure Application Proxy for multi-factor pre-authentication...

But it appears to me that using this method the Microsoft Remote Desktop app doesn't work. It gets a "the remote resource feed is invalid" error when connecting, and the instructions I've found for configuring on-premise RDS integration with Azure say that it only supports Windows 7 and 10, unless using passthrough (which as I understand does not support Multi-Factor Authentication).

I did some quick reading on using NPS for MFA for RDS but I'm not finding much that would make me think it would work with the Mac OS/Android Microsoft Remote Desktop app.

Is there another method for Mac users to connect to RDS and get MFA? Do one of the methods above work with the Microsoft Remote Desktop app? What are other people using to get around this (do you just tell people no Macs allowed?)

Thanks!

Server 2019 Custom Port on Session Hosts

$

Hello All,

I am seeking help in understanding what ia m doing wrong :)

my current setup

3 servers, with the following roles

1-RDWeb with RDgateway- Dev01 - port 443

1- Broker and license and Session host -Dev02 - port 5589

1- Session host -Dev03 -port 6689

Inbound traffic on Dev02 and Dev04 are only allowed (full inbound) from RDWeb /GW

Dev01-In Server Manager - Remote Desktop Services - Overview - Tasks - Deployment Properties you need to specify the external FQDN of your RD Gateway server.  If you have RDWeb and RDG on the same server this would be the same FQDN that your users will use for RDWeb.  For example, if your users use https://dev01.mydomain.com/rdweb to connect to your RD Web Access site, then you would enter dev01.mydomain.com for the RD Gateway name in deployment properties.

2 collections calculator published

testdev02 -> apps published from dev02

testdev03 -> apps published from dev03

Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CollectionName "Testdev03" -CustomRdpProperty "server port
:i:6689"

Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CollectionName "Testdev02" -CustomRdpProperty "server port
:i:5589"

RAP and CAP is really basic

RAP->Brokers allowed on port 5589

RAP allowed to all network resources for both 5589 and port 6689

Issue:

I am publishing tha apps over the remotapps native client on Win10

If I try to Access Calculator from Dev03 i get the error

Remote Desktop can't find the computer "Dev02" this might mean that "Dev02" does not belong to the specific network.Verify the computer name that you are trying to connect to.

If I try to access calculator from Dev02 everything works!

if I change the custom Port on Dev03 to 5589 and issue

Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CollectionName "Testdev03" -CustomRdpProperty "server port
:i:5589"

Refresh resources Calculator from Dev03 works!!

can someone hint /guide why i can't make the calculator work from Dev03 on a different port than the Broker cutom port? or eventually how to make that work :)

Ultimate Goal:

I want to set different ports on each Session Host Collection

Hi, I'm using Windows 10 Pro RDS and I'm trying to access it over WAN. I've turned RDS on, opened the ports on the firewall, and port forwarded my router, but I'm still unable to access it from the internet. The thing is, I've tested and Remote Desktop works on LAN, but not when on WAN over the internet.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

When connecting to a user via remote desktop Manager if the user is pointed to something I don't see a change in the cursor position. Only visible if the user clicked on something. (the user says that he moves the mouse at me it is in 1 position). Is it possible to see the user's mouse movement?

Hello everyone)

There was such a problem.

There is a farm (2 brokers, 12 hosts, a gate). There are published applications. When you open the application, 2 shortcuts appear on the taskbar in user machines. 1 - mstsc, 2 - published application.

Connection goes through RDGW. I don’t understand which way to dig. The problem is mildly floating.
For some employees this is present (Win7-10), for some not.

Maybe someone has already encountered a similar ...?

How to deploy extensions for Chromium Edge on terminal servers

$

Hello everybody,

A customer runs a fairly large terminal server farm and suffers hard from lots of websites loading tons of ads, JavaScript and other unneeded content. They use Chromium Edge, which works quite fine so far on the RD servers.

How can we deploy a Chromium Edge extension such as uBlock to all (2500!) users please?
