Remote Apps cannot be started from an RDSH server

Hello,

We're running Server 2012 R2 servers as an RDS farm.

When I log into one of the RDS server ("the bad guy") and use mstsc /admin to RDP to another RDAPP server it connects fast without issues, however whenever I launch any Remote App to the same RDPAPP server or any other RDPAPP server and click on "show details" while its connecting I see that when it gets to "Preparing Windows" it hangs there for about 30 seconds before finally terminating the session.

When i launch the same RemoteApps from any other 2012R2 RDSH from the same farm i do not experience any issues. It should be some issue with this single 2012R2 RDS host but i could not find any error messages in the Event Viewer.

Do you have any ideas?

RDS Gateway presents innexistant certifcate...

We are having an issues with our Win2012R2 RDS setup where the RD Gateway presents an outdated (and since renewed) cert to the end users connecting.

The cert used is not anymore referenced in the deployment (which lists the correct, new certificate)

...and is not even to be found in the certificate stores of the machine. I guess it is somehow cached in some obscure place I am not aware of.

In any case it is pretty confounding... Any idea how to solve this ?

Open remote programme automaticly hard one

I use a programme called Acomba and make it open in rpd on the server windows 2016 Essencial.

It's work corectly, but these programme require to have outlook 2016 open on the session to be able to send email.

Actually, I need to make both programme open and my user get confuse between that remote outlook and theyr local outlook.

I need a way that on session opening, outlook open but remain invisible to the user. Thanks.

2019 RDSH - not able reconnect to Disconnected session, every time new session (with fSingleSessionPerUser=0)

Hello colleagues

When we are doing such config (enable multiple sessions per user):

Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Remote Desktop Services\ Remote Desktop Session Host\ Connections

Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session     Disabled

We are not able to reconnect to any disconnected session that was running previously.

It seems that it was mentioned here for Inside build, but we have same...

Hi,

we do not use IPv6 in our LAN environment. Does anyone know a way to turn it off with out going to each workstation and unchecking the box on the nic?

Get-RDLicensingConfiguration on remote sytems

For some reason when trying to get a list of set RD Licensing servers set on remote systems the commandlet returns an error when run in pssession or via invoke-command. However, when run locally on the remote system works fine. Can anyone confirm it's the case in your environment and how to go around this problem.

Help with old MSTSC files and all the problems (Thanks MS)

Hi all.

We have about 1000 users on RDS.

Every Fuc**** time MS push a new Win 10 update it breaks the MSTSC.exe files and mstscax.dll. 

We have replaced alot of thees becurse of all the problems before "mouse right click" "pop up windows" and so on. Thanks alot MS for braaking this!!

But now again a new windows 10 update is out and now it dosent replace the 2 files but only 1 of them!!

So can somebody help us getting back to the original files so it follows the ms update cycle?

Windows Server 2016 with Remote Desktop Services Role - how to manage memory allocation for users

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if you know a way to manage memory allocation for users that connect to a Windows Server 2016 with the Remote Desktop Services role installed?

We currently have 512 GB of RAM and we have an average of 60 - 70 users connected daily on the server (only 1 instance). Users are reporting that the server is slow and I can see that only 80 - 90 GB or RAM is in use, everything else is on Cached memory.

Any ideas?

indexing issue

i have server 2012 r2 i have issue that when my search reached to 10 GB it automatically broken and initialized with start point i have formet the server, rebuild the indexing it is very frustrating for me to deal because users not be able to find the mail while search request you to please suggest me what do please.

Hey All

I really need some help here, I am officially stumped. 



I have a Windows Server 2008 R2. Very basic setup with 1-2 people using RDP. It has been a solid stable machine, until a few nights ago. I applied updates through Windows update. When the computer came back, the RDP Service would not start. It says 'Windows could not start the remote Desktop Services Service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified'. Ive tried reinstalling RDP.



Any help is highly appreciated.

Migrate some CALs to new RDS License Server

We are building a new 2019 License Server. We have an existing 2016 License Server. I am wondering if we can migrate half of the CALs from the existing License server to the new one and then just upgrade those. If so, how can we do this? We want to do this only during a transition period. We will migrate and upgrade the rest when we have confirmed everything is working with the new server.

Sudden clipping

Just recently we find ourselves in a cold spell in Western Canada.  I am connecting to Remote Desktop via Fibre and a client 200 miles away is connecting on ADSL.  This morning I had to ssh in at restart the service.  I did has to switch entry port on RDP ( #rd time I found snoopers) but the port should not matter.  Why is this happening?

Hello,

I need to move my RDS database and point my three RDS 2012R2 servers to the relocated db. Can this be done while users are connected or does it require all three RDS servers to be idle?

Windows 10 1903 remote-app repeating keystrokes

Hi,

All our win 10 1903 clients, immediately after been updated from 1803 to 1903 start repeating keystrokes in remote apps. Servers are 2012 R2. RemoteFX cannot be disabled on session hosts servers since that solution causes problems to some of the apps running. Any one facing the same problem ? Any solution?

2019 Remote Desktop Session Host

Just want to confirm a machine running a 2019 Remote Desktop Session Host will need a 2019 licensing server?  If so, can we have it on separate server(on a different machine just running only the licensing server role).

On our Remote Desktop Session Host machine, we specified on group policy (gpedit.msc) to point to the licensing server and also choose CAL.   The machine is in the same domain.

Background:

We recently deployed a 2019 RDS Host machine and found out after 120 days, we had issues.  Our DCs are 2016.  In a quick fix, the other admin pushed out a new 2019 machine running the licensing server role.

Windows 2012 R2 Broker uneven scaling, load balancing

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can point me in the right direction for this. 

We have 3 server all exactly the same Models, ram and CPU. Running windows 2012 R2 and VDI RDS sessions. 

What I have noticed is that VDI session are not evently distributed, across the servers. I am not talking about 1 or two machines, but 30 machines. So one server can have 55 machines while the other is only running 15. 

This has created a problem when as we recently updated an application that requires more resources and found servers going over 65 machine, which consumed all the resources on the server and create lag and other issues.  

Can anyone explain this difference in load and also if its possible to workout a solution.

Is Azure MFA on RD Gateway free

As announced on Ignite 2019 Azure MFA will be free for office 365 as well as for AAD administrators.

I have a setup with RDS 2019 and Azure MFA. Everything works fine and every user is licensed with an Azure AD Premium-license. The only reason that license is assigned is because we wanted to use Azure MFA for increased security on the RD Gateway.

Is it safe to say that I can remove these licenses now and still use Azure MFA, for free?

Users have started to be prompted with an "Accept and connect" dialog for valid certificates

Hi,

Users who are using Microsoft Remote Desktop version 10 (on Mac and Windows) are being prompted to accept the Remote Desktop Gateway Services certificate when attempting to connect. The certificate is valid and this has only started occurring recently.

This is also not happening on older versions of either MacOS or Windows clients, nor is it an issue when using the older MSTSC client.

Can you please advise if this is a known issue and if so what can be done to rectify.
