Hello,
We are currently running three Remote Desktop Session Hosts (RDSH). Our users can currently access their RDS Desktop by doing one of the following:
#2 listed above is done via a GPO. We have the Specify default connection URLGPO enabled and set the default connection URL to http://contoso.com/rdweb/Feed/webfeed.aspx (provided to us from our RDWA).
Both of these methods work great and we have no issues connecting to our desktops. An issue that we have been seeing is that once the user is signed into their RDS Desktop, they can still see theWork Resources folder in their start menu. It has caused confusion with our users. What they will sometimes do is:
The reason we believe this is happening is because the GPO is a user configuration setting. When they establish a connection to one of our RDSH, the user GPO will apply to their session.
Unfortunately, this GPO setting is not available in a computer configuration. Would anyone know how to work around this issue?
Regarding RDS in Windows Server 2012 R2:
What other ways to have HA Broker along with HA database, butwithout SQL Server Ent or Std?
I do not have SQL licenses available at the moment.
I have already done 2 Brokers HA with SQL Express. What I need now is HA for database.
Does it work with NLB or something?
In Windows Server 2008 R2, I know it was possible...
Hello,
I'm banging my head against the wall and can't figure out my problem on my own. So I would be very happy about some feedback.
Following situation:
I have a Windows 2016 server running as a terminalserver. I have 5 clients connected to my server. I mainly use 2 applications on my server which communicate with eachother (medical programs, one for managing patient data and the other one to show imported
images).
Whenever I start my program A and navigate to options a MSI installer appears which wants to install application B (even tho it is already installed). The MSI installer stops during "Preparing to install..." and program A freezes.
I took a look at my logs and it gives me the following warning: "Detection of product 'xxx', feature 'OleInterface' failed during request for component 'xxx'. It then tries to open the MSI installer and stops.
When I deinstall application B the MSI installer doesn't appear.
My Application A does not need the OLE interface but I tried both installing application B with and without OLE interface with the same result.
Here is what confuses me the most: with the administrator account aswell as with 4 other user accounts I run in the problem mentioned above. But with 2 other user accounts I do not have any problem at all. There is no MSI installer appearing and my program does not freeze.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

When users attempt to print to their local printer via RDWEB, nothing prints out. If you log into the Server, manually log them off in the RDWEB portal, and then rename their local printer to a different name, they can print again. However, this cycle repeats and I have to keep renaming the local printers in order for them to print. Anyone have any clue as to how to remedy this?

hello we are providing full session desktop (rds 2016)
i notice that any domain user can open "server manager" and "administrator tools"
this seems to be security risk. How can I disable these two items but still allow it for the domain admins?
Below is the crash dump and analysis. I only found one thing online that seemed to involve the same probable cause. I believe the solution from what I did find online was to delete the fntcache.dat file and any fontcache folders in the users appdata/local. Hoping someone can help confirm this or point me in the right direction. This is a brand new RDS server. Thanks.
Hi,
I have 5 Remote Desktop Session Hosts with 14 GB RAM each.
Every day in every RDSH connected 10-12 users
I have configure a policy to sign out all the users after 4 hours idle to keep it clean after working hours.
My problem is that after 15 days all Remote Desktop Session Host Servers use 6-7 GB RAM without any connection.
For example i can see that keeps 7 GB RAM when connect at night which i am the only in Remote Desktop Session Host Server.
I can't figure out which programm or service use so much RAM.
Can someone help me ?
Hi,
I have a cluster of Windows 2016 RDS servers that get a random problem about once a week.
Users report that they cannot reload Chrome after they close it and Skype For Business stops working as well.
After much digging we find that a svchost.exe process has jammed which is the Windows Audio Service. This is stopping all RDS users from closing Chrome properly and Skype for Business starting.
If we manually end the process, all users sessions return to normal and it may not happen again for another week.
I have a feeling that this is something to do with the fact that the RDS servers are Hyper-V machines.
We see the following in the event log:
Log Name: SystemRecently, I try hard to install sp1 on my server. Its OS is Windows Server 2008 R2, last night, I finally installed the SP1 on server, unfortunatelly, I lost the RDP when the server is restarted after configing service pack. Could you provide some suggestions to me? Thank you.
Hello,
I have an issue with RDWEB, request if any one could assist.
We have windows 2012 R2, with RDWeb. on the RD Session Client Settings, if I enable to option of Drive redirection, and if I try to open My Computer from the published app in browser, the application hangs and then eventually I have to restart the server, as cannot end or terminate the application even through powershell/cmd, get Access Denied.
If I disable the drive settings there are no issues, but then it becomes a problem to copy any PDF Generated files from the RD server to the local PC.
Would appreciate any workaround or assistance on this please.
Regards,
Huzefa
Hi,
So nothing like being on the cutting edge......
I have been testing Server 2019 RDS and so-far-so-good apart from an issue with the Windows Search Service.
It appears that in Server 2019 each user gets their own search database EDB file in their profile path (appdata\roaming). e.g.
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629.edb
When they log on and log off; this is connected to the search service and the following event log is generated
Source:ESENT
EventID: 326
SearchIndexer (10896,D,50) S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629: The database engine attached a database (3, C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629.edb).
(Time=0 seconds)
Unfortunately it appears that this process is not very stable and on some logons the database in the users profile does not attach and the following error is generated
Source:Search
EventID: 3057
The plug-in manager <Search.TripoliIndexer> cannot be initialized.
Context: S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629 Application
Source:Search
EventID: 3028
The gatherer object cannot be initialized.
Context: S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629 Application, SystemIndex Catalog
Details: The specified object cannot be found. Specify the name of an existing object. (HRESULT : 0x80040d06) (0x80040d06)
And a few more similar but related errors....
No subsequent logon/off will succeed in attaching the database until the Windows Search service is restarted
I am not testing with User Profile Disks or Roaming Profiles
There is no AV on the server
Any ideas?

I am looking to uncheck the Smart Cards box in Remote Desktop Connections Local Resources > Devices and resources > More... area.
I attempted this by disabling this in GPO under Windows Components/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Session Host/Device and Resource Redirection/Do not allow smart card device redirection however this seems to be a separate setting.
I need this fix to be able to be used in a enterprise environment, not a one off computer.
Unable to RDP into Window server 2016 with the error below.I've tried importing the registry from a healthy server with no luck. All RDP services are running. Also, the server is not listening on port 3389. I have server in the same subnet not having this
issue, so it isnt a firewall issue either.
Error
Windows Server 2016 Unable to RDP "Event Viewer 34 Remote Desktop Services is not accepting logons because setup is running"
I have set up a standard 3 node 2012 R2 RDS for testing. All virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.0. I have a connection Broker, session host, and web access server. I have published several applications and I can access them without a problem. Here is my issue:
When I try to log on to my session host server either locally or thru RDP, I am always logged in with a Temporary profile. It does not mater what user account I use. Even logging on locally as the administrator I get a temporary profile.
All windows updates are installed and current.
I have removed the server from the domain, deleted the account, and rejoined it to the domain.
I have deleted all .bak registry entries from here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
There is a hotfix here for a similar issue on 2012 but it does not apply to 2012 R2
The only event viewer errors are:
1515 (Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.)
1511 (Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.)
Any suggestions to resolve would be greatly appreciated.
Russ
I have a problem with RDSL - after power loss serwer stops responding correctly. I have to reinstall (overinstall for user data being untouched) server from DVD (Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation), but it lost its RDP licences, and I cannot start TerminalServiceLicensing anyway. Every attemp ends with error: The following general database error occurred: The instance could not be initialized ESE - error -501 JET_errLogFileCorrupt, Log file is corrupt.
Is there any way to clear log, or do anything with this file (which one filename and location)?
