Can SSL be disabled on 2012 RD Gateway to require TLS?

$

I'm looking at what we need to do to prevent SSLv3 from being used to connect to our RD Gateway. Can SSL be disabled so that all systems have to use TLS?

I'm thinking of a situation where for some reason a client does not use the normal default.

Managing RDS with clustered RDCB from RDS

Hi,

our team have all their support tools on one Windows Server 2012 R2 machine. Team consist from more that 2 members, so RDSH and RDCB roles was installed on this server.

We need to support clients who are logged on RDS with clustered RDCB role.

The problem: after we add all needed servers to Server Manager, there is an error we receive:

"The server pool does not match the RD Connection Brokers that are in it. Error:

1. The server pool contains RD Connection Broker servers that are both clustered and not clustered."

How can we solve this problem?

I am having an issue with creating a Virtual desktop collection. i am running windows 2012 standard and i have created 3 VM in Hyper-v running w7 pro. I have downloaded all the updates and have connected to them with RDC in the lan with no issue. i have installed AD RDCB RDVH and RDWA on the server. i have followed the set by step procedure on technet's  "windows 8 / windows server 2012: pooled virtual desktop infrastructure" link. where i get stuck is when i try to create a vm pool. It does not show the vm that i created in the hyper-v. i have syspreped them but i cannot create a pool.

How to make IE Print Page Setup settings the same for all users? for Win2k8R2 TS

$

I want all users of a particular Windows 2008 R2 server, with Terminal Services, to have particular IE print settings.
(this server runs a certain applicaiton, and from within that, IE is called, and from those IE pages shown to users, they all should have the same print-settings, e.g., quarter-inch margins, no headers or footers or page numbers (because the application page itself has these things, in an app-specific way). Reminding users to turn off or adapt these settings confuses the users.

Is there a Group Policy item I can create (I can't find Print settings anywhere)?

Are there INS file settings I can use? And where to put the INS file, how to invoke it? Any special Group Policies to turn on / off to use such a file?

This is driving me nuts. Customizing user settings for a default user used to be easy, but now ... obscure at best.

Thanks for your time and help with this.

No Remote Desktop License Is Specified

Hello,

I have configured remote desktop license in workstation environment. In this environment no Active Directory. So i have configured RDP in workstation. I have Active the RDP server  and Install License using RD License Manager.

I got some following error. Please suggest

Server 2012 Failure configuring Windows Updates Reverting changes Do not turn off your computer

Every time I add Remote Desktop Services Role, machine reboots 4 times on its own trying to install some kind of updates and RDS install fails. I know there is 8 probably but I cannot find their KB names. Event log does not show what they are or why they are failing. How to I stop these updates from applying?

Check the image below. It keeps failing on these updates circled and there is not way for me to stop them from attempting to install. The only way to see these in Windows Updates is if you enable RDS role and before you reboot. This is really frustrating, all I'm doing is attempting to install Remote Desktop Services for gods sake...

thanks

Changing Remote Desktop Web Access 2012 RemoteApp Source

$

I was wondering how I would set a Remote Desktop Web Access source for RemoteApps in windows 2012.

on windows 2008 R2 there was a tab on the web access web page (the configure tab), that would allow you to type in either a connection brokers address, or multiple RD session hosts addresses as RemoteApp sources. I don't see that in windows 2012 anymore and was wondering how a 2012 RD Web Access finds the RemoteApps.

there must be a way of setting this parameter. lets say I have a new connection broker that I want my web access to point to from this moment on instead of the one it is currently set to. there should be a command/UI somewhere. I can't even tell how my web access found and figured my current connection broker to point to at the first placed.

I've read here and there that there is a design change in 2012 that removes a Session host as an option for web access source, and that Remote Desktop Web Access 2012 is capable of only querying a connection broker for remote apps. I couldn't find an official documentation stating this , and even if it is the case, it still does not make sense that you , as the admin, not be able to change the target connection broker on a web access server.

RD with AD FS and WAP

I'm trying to setup RD Web with or without RD Gateway with AD FS and WAP. All on 2012 R2.

I have all the RD Roles on the same server inside the firewall and I would like to use the WAP server we are using for OWA for the same purpose for RD.

I have seen some bits of info that tells me it's possible but nothing more.

So any info would be greatly appreciated

"Server either does not have a virtual switch configured or none of the configured virtual switches have an IP address assigned" error driving me nuts!

OK; have been trying to setup a test VM based RDS deployment for a few days now with no luck.

this error mentioned above:

"Server <server name> either does not have a virtual switch configured or none of the configured virtual switches have an IP address assigned" error is driving me nuts!

I have removed and re-added the RD Virtualization Host role numerous times, each time having the "create a virtual switch" checkbox selected, but it did NOT create any virtual switch.

I created the external virtual switch manually and tried to create the desktop collection again, no luck with the same error.

a few questions:

1. you don't assign IP to a switch! you assign IP to Network Interfaces. why does the error puts it like this?! it is technically wrong.(yeah yeah I know all about how you'd assign IP to managed switches in real world to telnet into them and manage them. you know better than me that it is not the case here!)

2.the RDS Virtualization hosts are using their wifi card as the card for the virtual switch. could that be the reason? I even disabled their unplugged wired NIC just to make sure that the wifi is the only available option for the RDS wizard to use for the virtual switch creation; but it didn't use it and it didn't create any virtual switch automatically.

3.if WIFI nic is indeed the reason, is it your suspension or an official documents is there somewhere stating so (that the WIFI NICS on a Virtualization hosts are not supported as the hub for a virtual switch).

4.what are the properties of the virtual switch the RDS requires? does it have to be external? why can't it work even with my manually created external switch?

5.how would I fix it?

P.S: the environment is made up of 2 laptops, having windows 2012 R2 trial installed on them, using their wifi to connect to the out world. no cable is plugged into their wired NIC card.

Easy print doesn't work office 2013

Since we use Server 2012r2 instead of server 2012, we are suffering from printing problems on our azure vm's..

Especially printing from office2013 applications is a headache! When i print from within notepad, it works fine. But when i want to print a excel sheet, or word document, it doesn't work.

It looks like the document is send to the printer, but it never arrives at the local printer. It is tested on many different pc's with different printers and different operating systems (windows 7 / windows 8 / server 2012)

I hope that someone can help me with this

already done:

- .net 3 installed
- Permissions on spooler folder
- policies for easy print first etc

Language Bar appears when launching apps on RD Client on iOS devices

$

When using the RD Client app on iOS devices to launch programs from a Remote Resource Feed we always get a language bar appearing on the screen. The language bar doesn't appear when using RemoteApp from a PC or if I login into the server directly, only when using the iOS app.

The language bar also shows the default language as English US which is not the default. In Language screen in Control Panel we only have English UK listed. The Welcome screen and New user setting is also all set to English UK, the only place I can see English US is in the Override Windows display language drop down menu in the Advanced Settings.

I am assuming the language bar is showing because it some how thinks English US is the default but not sure how to remove this. The language on the iOS devices are also English UK.

I have tried re-creating profiles and also actually adding the English US keyboard then removing it but neither worked.

The RemoteApp server is Windows 2012 R2.

Any help/ideas appreciated, thanks.

Remote app takes 30 sec to open

I have an app that takes 3 sec to start on RDSH but 30 sec on Windows 7 client machine when click the shortcut (RemoteApp)

As first troubleshooting steps I did:

1. disabled A/V (no effect)

2. checked Event Viewer. An error related to Certificate appears every 8 hours

"Automatic certificate enrollment for local system failed to contact the active directory (0x8007054b). The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Enrollment will not be performed."

I am using trusted certificate and SSO is enabled. What is the next troubleshooting step?

The screen shot is from French OS (just for reference. comps are with French OS)

Cant create 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Connection Broker database on external 2012 SQL server

$

When attempting to add High Availability, I add my DB connection string, path, and RR entry, and the wizard fails on a screen that looks like this (this image came from this excellent site):

Event ID 32776 in the Event Log.

ALL of the prereqs are met, groups, permissions, all that. On the SQL server, I see that the DB files have been created in the specified path, the SQL Mgmt Studio has the DB added with the seemingly correct permissions, but with no tables.

Having uninstalled and reinstalled the roles a few times and check check checking the permissions on the SQL server, I'm pretty short on ideas here. I've followed the docs to a tee and am coming up short somewhere.

Strange values for Idle and Disconnect Time in Server Manager - Session Collection

$

Hello,

I see strange behaviour for Idle Time and Disconnect Time in Server Manager Session Collections.
When a user connects to a Session Collection then there is no value for Disconnect Time and Idle Time. Thats ok.

But when users do nothing Idle Time doesn't starts to count.

When users disconnects it shows the following:

But when a user reconnects then Ide Time continues to count, even if the user starts to work:

I have three Session Collections and in every Collection it's the same strange behaviour when users reconnects.
Two of these Session Collections consits of two servers each and one Session Collection is a single server only.
One Server for Connection Broker, RDGW and RD Web Access. All servers are Windows Server 2012 R2 VMs in Hyper-V.

Any idea?

Andreas

Active Window is Hidden Behind other windows

I'm running IE 10. When I log into my domain there are some AD policies in place for IE 10. The intranet web address is listed in trusted intranet site in our AD GPO. The server is w2k8 r2. It is a RDS server for Xenapp 6.5. When I open the application (Crystal Reports) in IE 10 and select print. The application calls for the Crystal Report Print Control downloaded add on module for IE 10 which opens the MS Windows Print Setup Window. However, the window opens behind IE so you cannot see it unless you click IE  in the taskbar. When I log on locally to the w2k8 r2 server which does has the local Group policy disabled this does not occur.

Any help on where to start would be appreciated. I tried the registry change and that didn't work. FYI I've noticed this with other published apps as well.

RDP8.1 client disconnects/reconnects randomly about every 2 minutes when connecting a RDP8.0 (WIn 2012) server

$

I have not been able to reproduce this in a LAN-environment, only in a WAN (remote) environment (probably related to higher latency)

Things tested that DO NOT resolve this:
- With gateway, reconnects happen more requent, probably due to proxying
- UDP on or off, no resolve
- FW tcp/udp timeouts doubled, no resolve
- keep alive settings on or off, no resolve
- Tested all different network-settings in the client (detect auto, WAN, LAN, broadband, etc. settings), no resolve
- RDS Server is on Hyper-V, moved it to another host with different teaming/physical NICs (and thus drivers), no resolve
- Tested with the Hyper-V under heavy load or almost 0% load, no resolve
- Average ping (remote) from client to gateway: 50 ms
- Average ping (remote) from client directly to RDS Server: 50 ms
- Tested fwith a client from a different location (and different internet provider), no resolve
- Completely updated RDS Server with all updates, no resolve

Things tested that DO resolve this (thusfar) getting 0 disconnects during several hours on end:
- Upgrading the RDS Server to 2012 R2 (thereby replacing server-side RDP8.0 to RDP8.1)
- Using client RDP8.0 at the client-side

It looks to me I ran into a RDP8.1 client bug here...

Is there anything else I could try to resolve this without having to upgrade the server (not very convenient because of software-support) or downgrading the client to RDP8.0 (not very convenient either if the client is Windows 8.1 < mostly in our case here) ?

Server 2012 R2 (Multipoint) no printer redirection

$

Hi

We have a Multipoint 2012 server which means underneath it is Windows Server 2012 R2 with RDS.

I have been troubleshooting an issue with printers and determined that an old incompatible driver has been causing the spooler to crash. This has now been resolved I believe - hurrah.

However in troubleshooting I had disabled remote printer redirection, but now I can't get it working again.

I had to do some funky stuff with deleting drivers manually and such, but I have triple-checked the registry entry fdenytsconnections and the local group policy entry 'do not allow printer redirection' which I have disabled (to allow printer redirection) and now 'not configured' - the reg entry is still 0.

I have reset the permissions and ownership of the spool directory to allow everyone full control.

There is nothing in the event viewer of either the client or the server, just no redirected printers.

Where can I look for clues?

Thanks

I need help for the specific application filter while on desktop sharing.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2007/03/23/writing-a-desktop-sharing-application.aspx

I got the samples for desktop sharing using Windows Desktop Sharing References. In that I need to filter the specific application. But i didn't know How to do that.

By using following things we can try to filter the specific Application. But I want to know, how to call Viewer side share property to fire the OnApplicationUpdate Eventon server side.

RDPSRAPI_WND_FLAGS enumeration - How to set the flag for specific application to give high level security process.

IRDPSRAPIApplicationFilter

_IRDPSessionEvents_OnApplicationUpdateEventHandler Please give me some examples to do this.... Thanks Narmadha
