Windows Server 2012 Standard - Remote Desktop Management service won't start

Dear colleges, I'm seeking your help in resolving a weird issue with Remote Desktop.

The Remote Desktop Management service gives the following error message any  time it is attempted to start:

"The Remote Management Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

The Event Viewer error message is as follows:

"The Remote Desktop Management service failed to start. Error code: 0x88250001"

Whenever I connect to the server with RD I get error message that the Remote Desktop Licensing Server isn't configured and that the RD trill will expire in N-days. The server is up to date updates wise and has been licensed for 5 RD CALs. The server hosts DNS server and has AD DS role installed, is virtualized to have one Hyper-V server.

I read some blogs about having both DNS and AD DS on one box is a bad sea and a root cause of the issue. Well, that very well may be, but for me that's an option as I'm not going to get a box to just host DNS. There should a solution to this as I shouldn't only one suffering from this issue.

I also read about KB2871777 - Servicing stack update supposedly addressign this issue. Well, it's on my system and the issue is there too. :)

Will I loose ability to RD when the trial expires or it's just another misleading MS message that can be ignored?

How do I mend Remote Desktop Management service to start?

Appreciate your help!

RDS 2012 - Certificate error when using RemoteApp

Have setup the RD Gateway to use port 40001 for the https transport. Internally everything works good. Can login to RD Web externally fine, but when trying to launch a RemoteApp it starts then returns a certificate error. The certificate it is showing is for the exchange server which of course is on port 443.  This is a single IP environment. From what I see happening, it is defaulting back to 443 even though it has been told to use 40001. Obviously the site connects and secures using the 40001 port, but the RemoteApps still want to fall back to 443. It this a flaw or am I missing something? I thought the whole reason of selecting another port was to use that other port.

Thanks

Hi, I'm using Win7 to RDP to an AWS WinServer2012 box. I need to view RDP session full screen. Checked RDP -> Display configuration, which is set to Full Screen. My machine's resolution is set to 1680x1050.

I checked the Screen Resolution on the server and see "The display settings can't be changed from a remote session." Also, resolution shows a greyed-out 1280x705, under which is a ! Your resolution is lower than 1024 x 768. Some items might not fit and apps might not open.

Any leads?

Thanks,

Scott

Basic theme corrupt, black boxes in apps when connected

Hi....

On one of our Windows 2012 Remote Desktop Host servers we have the following problem.

--Not working example:

THE PROBLEM

-- Working example:

WORKING

---

So black boxes all over the place. When I troubleshooted this as admin I found that switching the theme to "Windows" under Windows standard theme  made the black boxes go away. But switching to the "Windows Basic" them makes them appear again.

So:

-- How do I fix the basic theme? As this is the theme regular users uses and they have no option of changing theme. RemoteApp technology is used.

-- Or possibly, as I think it works fine with the "Windows" theme, how do I apply this to all users logging in to the server?

Also, I have tried to find a solution on this on the forum, the internet and be general troubleshooting. No errors in the event log in Windows......

Looking forward to hear from you. Thank you in advance.

Does a VDA subscription include the OS (Win7/8) license or JUST the right to connect to the OS?

There had been some discussion on VDI licenese, but there is no concrete answer for the subject question.

e.g.  10 Win7 VM shared by 15 access devices (Win PC without SA, iPad, Android, Thin Client), license need?
1) Win7 FPP x 10  +  VDA x 15
Or
2) VDA x 15

My question is cand you have more than one location in a Win 2008 r2 network for the fldrredir folder from which to access the info for clients in case of an equipment failure.  A failover backup location if you will!

Using RD Gateway with central NPS

We're trying to connect to a RD Session host server through a RD Gateway using users domain account.

The RD gateway server is not part of the domain. The RD Session host is joined to the domain.

As the RD CAP policy on RD Gateway searches for local users/groups, we tried to setup a NPS server on the RD Session host server, and use it as a central NPS server on the RD Gateway.

But we face the following problems:

- Even with central NPS server configured for CAP policies, RD Gateway always tries to authenticate first locally (-> login fails)

- RAP policies are also using local users/groups. How to specify domain account/groups ?

Thanks for your help !

RD session host is not detecting the license

My RD session hosts are not able to recognize the RDS CALs. Here is my setup:

License Server :

Windows 2012 Server (workgroup), running on Amazon cloud

No. of license: 20

License activation is done.

RD session host server:

Windows 2008 R2 (workgroup), running on Amazon cloud

Can connect to license server on port 135

License server is added in the RD session host

Licensing Diagnosis under RD session host detects the License server fine and give positive report. (Screenshot attached)

Few other settings:

These are user based CALs.

Firewall is disabled on the license server

As this is in workgroup, the Administrator's password on license server and on RD session host server is same. (else the license diagnosis will fail).

ISSUE:

Even though RD session host is detecting the license server fine as well as the licensing diagnosis gives a positive report, I get the typical balloon pop up saying "RDP connection will be lost after 119 days... " (the typical message it shows when you do not have RD session host license.)

What Am I missing here. Any pointers would of great help.

Windows Server 2012 R2 Session Broker - Offline Server Detection

We have two Windows Server 2012 R2 VMs, RDS3 and RDS4, configured with RDCB and RDSH role.

RDCB is configured in High Availability mode with DB on RDS3.

Everything works fine when both servers are running.

However, when RDS4 is offline, we still see RDS3 redirecting to RDS4.

Following events are logged on RDS3:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client/Operational
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client
Date:          5/12/2014 11:49:50 AM
Event ID:      1307
Task Category: RD Connection Broker Client processes request from a user
Level:         Verbose
Keywords:
User:          NETWORK SERVICE
Computer:      RDS3.sysnet.local
Description:
Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client successfully redirected the user sysnet\testuser to the endpoint RDS4.sysnet.local.
Ip Address of the end point = 192.168.1.45

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And then after 5 minutes following is logged.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-SessionBroker/Operational
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-SessionBroker
Date:          5/12/2014 11:55:19 AM
Event ID:      819
Task Category: RD Connection Broker processes connection request
Level:         Verbose
Keywords:
User:          NETWORK SERVICE
Computer:      RDS3.sysnet.local
Description:
This connection request has timed out. User could not log on to the end point within the alloted time. Remote Desktop Connection Broker will stop monitoring this connection request.

Why is the offline member detection not working?

We have also checked the settings in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tssdis\Parameters as per following:

IE 11 crashes when operated through a remote desktop

We have our security cameras running through a web interface. When I attach to one of the camera boxes through my Win8.1 IE11 computer it works fine. If I try and remote another Win8.1 computer and try and get to the cameras through IE 11 on the second computer, IE stops working and crashes. In the event viewer AT_DVRMedia.dll is the faulting module. It doesn't make any difference if the version on the second computer is IE 9, IE 10 or IE11. They all give the same error. It has something to do with remote controlling that second computer. I have tried Win7 and Win8 for the second computer but I still get the same error. I have read all the posts and none are even close to what I am seeing. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

PDF Size jumps when printing to Adobe PDF printer redirected vs. locally installed

$

I have a Server 2008 R2 setup to run Sage Peachtree as a RemoteApp.  RemoteApp is configured to pass local drives and printers through to the server for end user ease.  When you print an invoice (or any file from Peachtree) to the Adobe Acrobat X "Adobe PDF" printer that has been redirected, a single page pdf will save at about 1.1mb.  If I print the exact same invoice to a local install of Adobe Acrobat X "Adobe PDF" printer on the Server 2008 R2 install, it will save to about 8kb (which is the expected size for a single page pdf of lines and txt).

If you then try and print the 1.1mb pdf file to a normal HP printer PS (postscript) driver, it will expand in the print spooler several magnitudes to about 10-15mb, giving the impression that it sees the pdf data as an image instead of txt.

My guess is that the data being sent over the remote desktop connection to the redirected "Adobe PDF" printer is coming out of the pipe in a form that Adobe can only interpret as a graphic and thus compresses it as though it was one.

Anyone have any ideas on how to the local printer and the redirected printers to receive the same type of data and thus create pdf files of similiar size?

RDP through Sonicwall Netextender

Hello

Server 2008 R2 - DC/DNS/DHCP server (and file server)

From home: using netextender for Sonicwall to connect to the Firewall  - Which connects fine.

Once connected, I use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to an internal Server (TS).

If I am logged into my computer locally, I can connect to the TS Server, However if I am logged into my computer as the domain user, I cannot connect to the TS server.  If I use the form domain/user, It says it could not connect, and displays the 3 possible reasons (standard error).  If I use the username with no domain, I get "An internal error occurred..."

This all worked fine until I had my DC crash and had to have after hours microsoft support remote in and fix it.  Since then, I've not been able to connect as I once did.

Any suggestions?

There are 3 users that connect this way, and we all have the same issue.

Thank you

Terry

RemoteApp Disconnected - Server 2012 R2

I have a single 2012 R2 Standard server setup with all the RDS roles (RD Gateway, Broker, Session Host, Licensing, etc). I am able to publish apps and connect just fine only if the clients have the following setting: Local Policies > Security Options> Network security: LAN Manager authentication level - SEND NTLM response only. The default for windows clients is "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 sessions security if negotiated". In the past, I have just applied this setting to all the clients via GPO. However, this server will have primarily external users that are not a part of this domain. What setting(s) can I changed on the RDS server to prevent me from having to make any changes on the client's computers?

Security warning when opening Menu or taskbar items in rdp session

Server 2008 R2 RDS.  When users log in and try to execute task bar or menu items they get a security warning saying the publisher is unknown, etc.  I did read a post elsewhere that said to create a site to zone entry which we did via GPO and that hasn't helped. The only thing that works 100% is to go to Internet Properties, Security tab, Custom level for this Zone and in the area labeled "Launching Applications and unsafe files" to set it to Enable (not secure).  But, we'd have to do this for every user.  I assume there is a better way?

Thanks to all who reply,

How do I print to my Local Printer

I have a windows 2008 r2 standard running Hyper-v.  I created several virtual machines for out of state users.  The users connect via remote web workspace.  None of them can see their local printers.  Is there a way to do this?

Failed feature removal [RDWeb]

In attempt to repair my RDS Web server I tried to uninstall that component. When I did I, got an error 0x800F0922, and it did not uninstall. I am prevented from re-installing it because it is still on the computer.

The back story is I installed the Lync Webapps server, and a step in that process removed all pools and sites. I in one step lost all the webpages I had on the machine, most of the sites I knew which pool to add them back to and where to find the root folders. How ever I have no idea where/how the RDWeb services are located.

Thanks

Remote Desktop Services - Server 2012R2 - Screen flickering

$

Hello all,

We deploy Navision 2009R2 through Remote Desktop Services, the deployment works fine but once I a while, when Navision opens a second program, just a small custom made program (a single .exe) used to trasfer data into navision, the screen starts to flicker and working becomes impossible.

We have to close the entire remoteapp connection and start over.

Steps taken:

  • Server is up to date
  • Changed to compatibility mode of the program
  • Bumped up the vRAM
  • Enable/disable RemoteFX

Extra information

  • Virtual machine on ESX 5.5 (Host is HP ML380 g8)
  • Connection between server & client is 40Mbs (more than enough)
  • Frequency of the problem: less than three times a week.

What kan I do to troubleshoot this rather annoying problem and might anyone have a solution?

Kind regards,

Win 2012R2 RDS, user disks and corrupted recycle bin

Hello,

we're encountering following problem: we're using 2012 R2 standalone RDS server and user disks feature on it.

Every time when administrator logs in remotely he receives following warning: "Recycle bin in C:\Users\%username% is corrupted, want to clean it up?", and this message appears for multiple users.

I already tried deleting $recycle.bin folder in every profile. rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin was tried as well.

Do you have any ideas how to fix it?

Thank you in advance!
