Remote App Outlook 2010 in Exchange

$

Hello All,

I am running RDS Farm with Windows Server 2008 R2. I have 2 RDS servers connected to domain and so on.

I have managed to "publish" Internet Explorer as a remote app (For secure surfing) and it works perfectly.

Now I would like to publish Outlook 2010 as a remote app and getting this issue:

When I try to run the published outlook shortcut, it opens up the outlook profile initialize in order to get the exchange server settings which is ok.

But when I try to type my exchange server parameters it does not accept it and I get the attached screenshot error.

It seems like it does not "see" the Exchange server from the remote app.

On the other hand, if I log on to one of the rds servers with RDP (as remote desktop) and open up outlook, it accept the details and works fine. ( Basically I do not want to publish a full remote desktop but only specific remote apps )

From some reason when I run the Outlook as a remote app it does not recognize the Exchange server and won't let me setup the profile.

Even if I type the ip address of my exchange I get the same error, so I assume it has nothing to do with DNS issue nor Firewall or Antivirus.(?)

In addition, Once I do manage to initialize the profile through the RDP and then run it from the remote app it works.

Obviously I cannot log on with 60 with remote desktop and initialize their profiles, I need to publish it and configure the profile from the remote app....

some more details :

1. Windows 2008 R2 Domain environment.

2. LAN is on a different segment from RDS Farm.

3. If any other details is needed please let me know.

Moreover, this post seem to be similar to my issue but I am not sure if it would solve my issue. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/059a57ad-09e0-4b2d-9292-18532f7d0339/outlook-2010-server-is-unavailable-error-when-starting-remote-app?forum=winserverTS)

Thanks in advance!

What order or in what way are the resource authorization policies applied?

I understand what RAP/CAP are and how they work and I know that the CAP are applied according to the order. The RAPs are not linked to a specific CAP. My question is how are the RAPs applied. You can obviously have a group or a nested group in one or more RAPs. So does the connection attempt (after it gets by the CAP) get compared to all the RAPs before it is denied? I have been searching for hours and have not been able to find anything on how the RAPs are applied. I have both server 2012 GWs and server 2008 R2.

Thanks,

Negotiating RemoteFX with a non-rdp 8 capable client

I am trying to connect a non-microsoft RDP 7.1 compatible client to a Windows 2012 SessionHost server. The server has RemoteFX enabled and a Windows 8 Remote Destkop client works perfectly well. The non-Microsoft client works fine with

 • Windows 7 VMs under Hyper-V
 • Windows 2008 R2 SPI SessionHost
 • Windows 8 VMs under Hyper-V (2012 Host)

but it will not receive RemoteFX updates from the server. The graphic updates appear to be fastpath bitmap updates, even though the client only negotiated RemoteFX as a codec in its capabilities in the Confirm Active pdu. It seems the server ignores this. Is there something else that must be negotiated with 2012?

There is a tool like citrix receiver for RDS?

Good morning everyone!

Let me explain my scenario:

I have RDS in my Windows Server 2008R2 also I have my users (in my active directory) but what I want is that when my users logon into their sessions they cannot see their desktops I just want them to see the apps I already published.

I know they can access through RD Web Access but I dont want them to see their desktop.

In Citrix I know I can install in (my thinclient) Citrix Receiver and when they logon they can access to apps.

The point is that someclients can't buy Citrix I want to offer RDS.

Thanks for your time.

Regards!

Remote Desktop Remote Apps File Path

Hi there,

Could anyone help with the bellow:

I have set up remote app function on Windows Server 2008 however I need to change the file path to be the user folder of each user logged in. Otherwise there are right conflicts.

The file path while running it locally is

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\FAM\fam_form.mde" /wrkgrp "l:\FAM.MDW"

However within remote app settings it picks up MSACCESS as the file path and then the remainder is in the command line arguments.

I have tied using the following in the command line arguments:

"USERPROFILE\fam\fam_form.mde" /wrkgrp "L:\fam.mdw"

however it is still not working.

Would greatly appreciate if someone could help or point me in the right direction.

2012 vdi connection broker question - can you weight it to certain hosts?

$

Hi

I'm having a play in my lab with 2012 R2 vdi and have to say i'm pleasantly surprised about neat it is!

I have two question about the load balancing part, and how many VMs I assign to hosts.

Lets say I have 50 users and 2 hosts. One host has more ram/faster disk that the other, so I want more load on host1 than on host2.

1) Do i just add 40 desktops to host1 manually and 10 to host2 via the add virtual desktops wizard or will the broker work it out itself?

2) What aspects does the broker take into account when balancing connections? does it look at cpu load etc on the host?

3) Will the broker just keep creating VMs as more users access it - or do i need the vms already created? e.g. my 50 users grows to 60 - do i need to create another 10vms on the hosts or will it automatically start creating number 51, 52 and if so presumably it balances them across the hosts somehow?

Hope that makes sense and thanks for any replies.

Roaming Profile RDS + NetApp

$

Hello everybody.

I need some help with a problem on my RDS 2008r2 project, which has to deal with Roaming Profile and inheritable permissions from parent folder.

We have NetApp storage and through GPO, we want to store these users roaming profiles into NetApp share.

Ok, so far the idea is good, we already use it for XenApp 6.5, and it work perfectly. But, for any reason, RDS roaming profiles are not working as we want.

So, we have a folder (on netapp share) named ProfilesRDS, where the roaming profiles are saved, and this ProfileRDS folder has 4 or 5 AD security groups.

When a user logs in, his profile is created with USER, NETAPPNAME\Administrators and System, has Full Control of the user profile. The administrators groups from parent folder are not inheritable to the profile...

Policys like "Add the administrators security group to roaming user profiles", "Do not check for user ownership of Roaming Profiles Folder" are enabled.

Does anybody ever seen these before? Anyone that can give me a help?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Virtual Terminal Server hangs with "Waiting for the user profile service" message on screen

Hello,

We are having intermittent issues with a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard x64 terminal server running as a HyperV VM, which sometimes hangs when users try to log in or off, with the message "Waiting for the user profile service" appearing on-screen. This happens even if you log onto the console session. The "loading circle" does not even continue to spin. We are unable to remote into it via any other computer when that happens, and it cannot be connected to via remote Computer Management to check which services or running or stopped, either.

I had read somewhere that this could be caused by IPv6, and that disabling it may solve the problem. We wondered if this was true and if there is any actually other fix besides simply disabling IPv6, as ideally we would like to not have to do this.

Grateful for any suggestions.

problems conencting via Remote Desktop Connection to a server

hello! i have a problem connecting to one of our servers via Remote Desktop Connection. The story goes like this: the server works fine, i can connect using my credentials with no problems, the firewall is up. But, when i restart the server, after loading windows, the server wont respond. I try to ping its IP Address and no respond. The only way so far to fix this bug is to log on localy (without remote) and disable the Windows firewall. Instantly the server starts to respond and i can connect to it via remote desktop conenction. If i restart the server, the problem appears again and the solution to it this time is to enable the windows firewall back again. This enable/disable firewall thing doesnt seem right. Does anyone have any idea?

thank you!

"Please Wait For The User Profile Service" message when logging on to TS 2008

I have a Windows 2008 AD Domain with 2 Windows 2008 Terminal Servers. Both are configured identically. I have the TS Roaming profiles stored on a 3rd server and a GPO pointing all users to the roaming profiles. On one of the servers everything works perfectly. On the second server the users, after they input their credentials, get the following message "Please Wait For The User Profile Service". The message can stay there for up to 3 minutes, then they are logged innormall with the correct profile. This problem does not occur on log off. Any help would be appreciated

Deployed printers wont stay set as default

Using RDS 2012 R2 server, we are deploying 4 or so printers via group policy.

When a user sets them to default printer and logs off, when they log back on the default has changed to another non mapped printer (local printer).

Do not set default client printer to be default printer in a session is enabled in GPO.

Tested the same outcome on a 2008 r2 non rds server as well.

Remote Desktop NLA / CredSSP timeout

$

Hi all

Hopefully someone else has encountered this issue or has some ideas about how to resolve it.

We have a thin client environment setup (W7 Embedded) in kiosk mode. When the thins start up, they autologin and auto-launch the RDP client to connect to our RDS server.

The issue we're having is that if they sit idle at the "Enter your credentials" screen for more than 20 minutes, the first logon attempt will always fail with "the two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted"

Second login works just fine.

This seems to happen regardless of RDP client version (have tried 6.1.7601 & 6.2.9200) or Server OS (2008 R2 & 2012).

My troubleshooting and thinking thus far is that it's somehow related to Kerberos ticket timeouts or something like that.

It's also entirely possible this is by design, I'm just not sure.

Testing I've done:

Adjusting ALL the different RDP idle timeouts

Workgroup machine RDC 6.1.7601 -> Server 2012 RDSH

Workgroup machine RDC 6.2.9200 -> Server 2012 RDSH

Domain-joined machine RDC 6.1.7601 -> Server 2008 R2 (just administering)

Same error on all the above

Any help or pointers would be much appreciated!

Issue with RDWEB services

$

I am able to connect to all servers using RDP internally. I am able to setup a VPN connection and RDP to all servers from externally. I am able to use the RDWEB method and access all applications available to me internally. I am able to use the RDWEB session externally and connect with all applications available to me. When I click on an application which then creates the RD session with the server the application resides on this also works.

This is where I am stumped... After the application launches, it then stops working and tries to re-initiate connection. It does this 2 or 3 times reconnecting each time for about 10 seconds each time. Then it stops and I can see in Remote Desktop Services Manager that the session is disconnected. Then if I try to open an application again I get the following message: Your computer cannot connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want to connect to. Contact your network administrator for assistance.

The only difference between internally connecting (which is stable) and externally connecting is our Firewall. Is there any reason it would allow traffic through and then not allow. Any help would be appreciated....

when I try to login to 2008 server via RDP (even using console switch) I get this error:

Requested operation cannot be completed because the terminal connection is currently busy processing a connect, disconnect, reset, or delete operation

how can I restart terminal services remotely?

using RDP manager on a second server, I do not seem to be able to clear it,

log off is not listed, my only options are :

connect (greyed out)

disconnect

send message

remote control

reset (greyed out)

stats (greyed out)

all remote control does is prompt me to hit the tab key and CTRL to end the remote session, but it does not end the session, just tells me access is denied.

Hi everybody ;

I have question about clustering TS Session Directory Service.

In my environment I have four terminal server which running Windows Server 2003 R2. Now we bought two new servers and we are planning to use them for File Server with Windows Server 2008 R2. I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 to this new servers and i configured them for file server and clustered this two server. But i want to cluster the my terminal servers session directory service in this cluster environment. My terminal server WS2003 but cluster environment is WS2008. Is there a problem about this version difference ?

Thanks.

After locking a workstation connected to a server, the workstation cannot be unlocked

$

I am using Remote Desktop on to a server. Every time that I lock my workstation, I come back to find that I cannot unlock it.

I am told that I am using an invalid password. If I try to use the server admin password that also fails.

The workstation is using Windows 7 Professional SP1 and the server uses Server 2003 SP2.

The only way that I can regain control of my workstation is to do a hard shutdown and restart.

Sometimes if I lock the workstation with the server screen minimised I can get back in, but not always.

No-one else in my department has this problem and no-one I have spoken to has ever seen this happen.

I have had my machine rebuilt a number of times, but no change in its behaviour.

This is driving me bats.

Has anyone any ideas on what is going on here, preferably with a solution?

Regards

Allan

Windows Server 2012 DC - RDS - "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred"

$

Hello,

I have recently setup RemoteApp and a RD Gateway on a 2012 R2 DC server. I have the 4 roles split out between 6 different servers. So 1 broker, 1 RD Gateway, 1 RD Web Acccess, and 3 Session Hosts.

As of Monday this week, everything worked fine with the Gateway Server. The Web Access server's site is accessible internally and externally, launch RDP sessions successfully, as well as connect RemoteApps that I have deployed via the web feed. The only piece missing is when I attempt to click on a RemoteApp Program from the site I get the error "RemoteApp Disconnected - Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want to connect to. Contact your Network Administrator for assistance."

No error logs are created on either the server side or client side. As far as I can tell my setup is correct according to technet articles that I have followed in order to get everything up and running.

One note, the RemoteApp Programs work fine internally if I check the box "Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses." With this unchecked the RemoteApps fail to launch internally with the same error.

The only changes that were made since Monday were a fourth Session Host server was added which was a cloned in Vmware from another Session Host in the environment and new RAP and CAP were created on the RD Gateway server.

All of the VM's were restored using a backup that was taken Monday night before the shenanigans started. Our client machines are running Windows 7 Enterprise and the RDP client has been updated to 8.0.

I have read through the forums as well as explored the net and have yet to find a solution.

Thanks,

Erik
