Remote desktop windows server 2012 R2 - shadow/ remote control another user

$

Hello,

The feature I miss MOST about Windows Server 2003, 2003R2, 2008, 2008 R2 was remote control another remote desktop session.   In task manager, select user and remote control their session so TWO people could set up a server remotely so I could teach someone else how to set up a server or have someone else proof my work.

I thought I read that feature was coming back with Windows Server 2012 but I can't do that.

Can someone please let me know if I read wrong or if there is an additional step to allow this behavior?  I've enabled remote desktop and multiple logons for a user but can't find how to remote control another remote desktop user.

How are RemoteApp credentials verified? Does the RDP server do this, or does a domain controller do this?

VDI Windows 8 - collection query

We have 2 Hyper-V hosts with a single Broker.  We are looking to use a single Collection, but configure the Collection to use each hosts local S: drive which is an SSD card\storage for performance reasons, but store the Profile Disks in such a manner that a single Collection is possible.  We have found that this is not possible since the UI prevents mixing UAC (\\) and local drives (S:\) being mixed when creating the Collection.  Any thoughts suggestions much appreciated?

Terminal Services Oddball Issue

Hi everyone......first post so bear with me!

I have a weird issue on our network to deal with.

We have multiple mapped network drives for documents, files etc. We also use terminal services sessions for certain work.

Whilst in terminal services and accessing our "N:" drive. If you right-click on a file and click properties, nothing happens. However doing the same operation on any other network drive works successfully and performing the operation outside of terminal services also works.

Also, just for extra spice, if you visit the mapped location in terminal services via a full path rather than the mapped drive it also works.

So it is literally just inside terminal services whilst using the mapped drive option it doesnt work.

The OS is server 2003 and the workstations are running XP.

Does anyone have a clue because every brain cell in my head is telling me there is no way it shouldn't work.

Thanks in advance!

Connection between Connection broker and Session Hosts

Hi All

We are experiencing strange behavior in our RDS 2008 R2 farm. Normally everything is working as expected, and we have 3-500 users using the platform on a daily basis. But now we are experincing that some applications (all from same session host group) aren't being published on the website.

We have been troubleshooting a lot and isolated the issue to be between the Connection Brokers and Session Host Farms. It seems like the two server groups forgets everyting about each other. No error logs are generated anywhere.

We are able to resolve the situation by reboting the session host affected, followed by a reboot fo the connection brokers.

We really need to find out why this happens; how to reslve the issue without rebooting any servers; and ultimately to prevent this to happne in the future.

Our setup is as follows:

Two Webservers (WEB1 and WEB2) in NLB cluster

Two Connection Brokers (CB1 and CB2) in Failover Cluster

Two Gateway Servers (GW1 and GW2) in NLB Cluster

7 Session Host Groups (SHgroup1-7), each consisting of 2-3 servers in NLB clusters. Each of these are groupsrunning system specific applications.

I would appreciate any help on resolving this issue

Is Intel HD4000 (Ivy Bridge) compatible with RemoteFX?

Hello all,

I now have a late 2012 Mac Mini with Windows Server 2012 installed. It ships an Intel i7-3720QM CPU, with Intel HD 4000 Graphics Processor.

As is claimed by Intel, HD 4000 supports DirectX 11.0, but I cannot enable RemoteFX with an error of "None of your GPUs support RemoteFX".

So, is RemoteFX blocked on Intel HD 4000 by MS or Intel, or do I need to reinstall Windows 2012? Is there a certain sequence of installing RDS, Hyper-V role, and the Intel display driver?

Settings for winposstr ignored

Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Server R2000 64 bit. Logging in from a Windows 7 client computer to the Server.

After editing the RDP file and setting values in winposstr, those value are ignored. Reference:  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/665.how-to-set-the-monitor-for-a-remote-desktop-session-in-a-multi-monitor-setup.aspx

The biggest problem is that the remote computer always looks as the local window as too small.  The screen must be scrolled to get at the Start button then again to get at icons along the top.  We use an application called IADS that demands the entire window.  It has controls on both the top and bottom and one or the other is always hidden.  The controls in one corner only can be seen at any one time.

When the start button is used and the remote desktop application is selected, then the serve is selected as the destination, it will work ok.  But the window must always be resized and relocated.  We do this so frequently that we prefer to have the RDP file fully functional.

Any thoughts on how to make the server set its screen size per the arguments of the RDP file.

RDS Host server - flowcontroldisplaybandwidth key not taking effect

Hi All hoping someone can assist.

We have a TS farm with 3 servers (virtualised) and approx. 80 users connecting at any one time. The servers by all accounts are humming along nicely, there are not traffic bottlenecks anywhere, although we still seem to have a relatively poor user experience (slower than expected screen refreshes). I have tried to increase the display bandwidth by editing the registry keys in HKLM\System\CCS\Services\TermDD of FlowControlDisplayBandwidth and  FlowControlChannelBandwidth. Now it doesn't seem to matter what setting I change these to they have no effect. I even tried DisplayBW at 1 and ChannelBW at 255 without any change to connection performance. Am I missing something, or is there another setting hat is taking control??

The TS's are Win Server 2008 r2 and the bulk of the thin clients are running RDP 6.1 or better.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

cheers Ian

Windows Server 2012 - Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway)

Hi All,

We have Windows Server 2008 TS Gateway in operation. Works well. Using ISA as a load balancer and a pair of servers.

The documentation for Windows Server 2008 was detailed and comprehensive.

By contrast, the documentation for Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway) barely exists; I get much richer information from enthusiasts providing their own experience.

If I'm missing something, please let me know!

The reason I'm searching is I'm trying to establish Microsoft's specifications and/or recommendations for high availability for Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway). In particular, it now uses new protocols (HTTP, UDP), which [presumably] changes things.

Naturally I want to move away from end-of-life ISA, so I need detailed, specific guidance.

Any help is welcome!

Kind regards,

Anwar

Windows 2008 R2 intermittently getting access denied when logging in

Hi,
I recently built 2 new Virtual Machines. They both run on Hyper-V (version 6.2x).
One is Windows 2008 R2 standard and the other Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter. These are both remote desktop servers.
These are both connected to a domain.
The domain controller is linux/samba based, this will mimic the Windows NT4 style domain controller environment.
Within each Virtual Machine I have a remote desktop users group, that is a staff group.
Intermittently users get an access denied error when logging on. This only happens when logging on as domain users.
If this happened all the time, I might think the machine needed to be removed and re-added to the domain but as it's intermittent, I don't see the trust relationship as the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks

RDS farm of virtual machines - design

Hi everybody, I would like to ask help with the role "Remote Desktop Services" under windows server 2012. The main objetive is provide pools of virtual machines for users who need one because his notebook is too old for install windows 7/8. People then will works with their personal dektop integrated in AD with all domain resources available.

Current Status: I have installed 3 machines called "vs-dc" (domain controller), "vs-test04" (windows server 2012) and "vs-test05" (windows server 2012). In each machine I have done:

* VS-DC: I have not change nothing in AD (including schemas).

* VS-TEST04: I have installed remote desktop services. In this server is running "RD Web Access", "RD Connection Broker",   "RD Virtualization Host" and  "Remote Desktop Session Host". I have deployed one colletion under 4 virtual machines, running 2 virtual machines in this server.

* VS-TEST05: I have installed remote desktop services. In this server is running "RD Virtualization Host" and  "Remote Desktop Session Host". Here I have running 2 virtual machines in this server.

Main Objetive: Now, my main idea is when a user need a virtual desktop, he launch out VPN conection and when he is connected, then he launch a remote desktop on vs-test04 or vs-test05 and his session is redirected to this virtual machine.

Questions: I have a few question about it.

1. Is it possible to do this configuration?

2. Is it necesary configure RD Connection Broker? because the unique option that I can configure in VS-TEST04 where I installed this role, is "Configure Hight Availability"

3. Is it necesary to extend AD schema?

Please, if you can provide me a little help where I can learn I will be happy. I try to find information about it in Internet but I dont find a good place where I can understand all.

Thanks a lot.

problems with license server

We recently had help with setting up a license server for Remote Desktop. This server works fine, but we can't get other machines to use the server's licenses.
When we rdekstop to the client server, we can only access it 2 users at the time indicating that the client server doesn't find the licenses on the license server.

We have tried to configure Group Policy so the client knew exactly where the license server was, but that didn't work.
We have also tried to confiure it through the Server Manager, but that requires a Domain controller, which we don't have.

any ideas to get this working. how do i make a RDesktop server read it's licenses from another server

Windows 2008 R2 SP1 RDS -> Blank Screen on every 2nd login?

Hello,

I'm expiring a weird problem.

I'm trying to logon with a normal user on our Terminalserver. I can type username + password but after "preparing your desktop" the screen turns black. Having a look at the taskmanager (with the administrator) i can see, that there is no explorer.exe active for that user.

Thank i close my user-mstsc.exe session and reconnect - than everything works fine :(

(Than i logoff and on again: black screen, logoff and logon again: everythings fine...... )

Any hint what could cause this issue?

I've tried a loot of thing (disabling the user feedback on errors, disabling bitmap caching on client, stopping AV-scanner, installed the latest Updates etc...).

Thanks a lot,

Florian

Prevent RDP Client Software from using a Saved Password

$

We have a single RD Gateway which is used for Internal and External access for All Users. We use NLA, but we have issues with Users who are able to save Credentials into RDP Software, be it Remote Desktop Client or iTap Mobile. We see this as a huge security risk as we cant restrict which devices can connect.

What are we missing? Should/can we restrict the devices that connect or can we restrict saving of credentials when the connection is requested?

error default connection remoteapp windows 2012 server

Hello,

We have a small domain with a domain controller and a terminal server (both servers are running Windows server 2012 standard).  We use the terminal server just for applications, not for desktop virtualization.

It's working, when the user opens the rdweb access link on his desktop.  But we integrated the remoteapps' in grouppolicy, so  normally a user can click on a document and the connected program starts running (on the terminal server). That's not working.

When a user simple wants to click on a Word document, Word is not found on his computer.

Can anyone explain error id 1026: The installation of the default connection has been cancelled. A default
connection cannot be used on a system that is part of a Remote Desktop Services
deployment?

Thanks a lot.

Group policy not applied fully on terminal server

Hello,

Since couple of days our group policy doesn't apply fully.

Our setup.

1 dc + exchange 2010 windows 2008 R2

1 terminal server + backup domain controller. windows 2008R2

We have one big group policy and part of this policy is not applied anymore (it used to works for 2 years)

To try to debug this I have created a test user in a test OU with just one policy enable:

But this policy isn't applied.

I can still see the control panel in the start menu and access it.

Everything tell me that this policy is applied but it is not applied

I also try to enable the logging and tracing as you can see in the policy report but no logs are generated.

Thanks in advance for any useful answer

Hi

My Environment:

One windows 2008 R2 DC and One Windows 2003 DC with Terminal Services on it and another Windows 2003 as Terminal Licensing Server.

Envisioned Environment:

Two Windows 2012 DC, one with RDS Licensing role. Two windows 2008 R2 RDS Session Host server, Plus Existing Windows 2003 Terminal Services and Windows 2003 Terminal Licensing Server.

My questions:

1. can i have two licensing server in the same AD, one to serve windows 2008 R2 and the other to serve Windows 2003?

2. can Windows 2012 Licensing server serve both Windows 2008 R2 RDS and Windows 2003 TS?

3. my new license for RDS that i purchased is on windows 2012, should i have to downgrade it to windows 2008 R2?

4. since i will be using RDS windows 2008R2 and TS windows 2003, can my licensing  server be on Windows 2008R2? even if my domain is Windows 2012 AD.

Hello,

We have a customer in Mexico who is RDPing into one of our hosted servers via a VPN tunnel.  One of the users (primary user) is experiencing issues with logging on multiple times before accessing the desktop of the server.  The person has kept a log of the logon incidents and they coincide with Application and Services errors that are logged on the server.  Below are the error we are seeing:

Office 2003 file search on Windows Server 2008R2 RD Session Host

$

Hi,

since migrating to W2K8R2 RDS the Office 2003 integrated file search do not work for any RD user. If you start the feature (file menu --> file search) the dialog starts in the right pane as expected but you cannot choose the search location. You can activate the "All" checkbox but the search doesn't bring up any result. I tested a bit and the only user for whom the search is working is the local admin built-in account, even a second "self made" admin account can't choose the search location.

Any idea which system restriction prevents my RD users from using the Office file search feature? By the way on a Win7 system with Office 2003 it works properly as well as on the old W2K3-Terminalserver.

Regards,

Andi
