"No workspace is associated with this URL" error when trying to connect to RemoteApp portal using iOS RD client

We have noticed after the pandemic hit that we can no longer connect to our RemoteApps portal using the iOS/Mac OS or Android RD Client.  We get the error "No workspace is associated with this URL" when we try to connect.  This worked previously and worked well.  We have a ticket to MS about the issue but haven't gotten very far (opened the ticket April 2nd, still not resolved).  Basically doing patch rollbacks on the servers but everyone is guessing at this point.  So I thought I would try here.

This wasn't a feature we used very often until the pandemic hit, the employees began working from home.  They wanted to start using their tablets and phones to connect to the portal.  We used it previously but it was mostly the IT team that used it and it wasn't used very often.  We suspect the issue started some time between December, 2019 and March 2020 but didn't noticed until the middle of March.

Windows Server 2019 RDS license server in place but the Win 2016 Session Host still counting down

Hello,

I have a Windows Server 2019 which is my AD/DNS & RDS license server. From here I've configured a GPO to push the license server and user CAL to any server in my Servers\TS OU. 

I stood up a new Windows Server 2016 w/SQL, added it to the correct OU. When I run the RDS License Diagnoser it displays the correct RDS license server, shows the qty of license installed and available.  But if I run this command it still shows that the Grace Period is counting down. Why?

 wmic /namespace:\\root\CIMV2\TerminalServices PATH Win32_TerminalServiceSetting WHERE (__CLASS !=””) CALL GetGracePeriodDays

Do I need to worry about that since the terminal server is showing it's talking to the license server?

If I go on the RDS license server and open the License Manager it shows that it is assigning licenses to users as they remote in.

RDS Session hosts fail to join farm after reboot

Hello,

we have the following RDS environment:

2 x RDS Broker (Server 2019)

1 x RDS Gateway (Server 2016)

1 x Collection with 3 Server Windows 2016

1 x Collection with 3 Servers Windows 2019

After rebooting a server from the 2019 collection, it randomly fails to join the farm. The issue does not seem to occur on the 2016 collection.

If everything works fine, we can see the following event on one of the broker servers:

Source: TerminalServices-SessionBroker, Evend ID:776“RD Connection Broker successfully added an RD Session Host Server Server1.xxx.intranet to Farm XXX.”

But sometimes there’s no event logged for the server. To make the server work again we have found a workaround which is to not allow/allow new connections from the RDS broker.

After that we can see the following Events on the session hosts:

Source: TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client, Event ID: 1280“Remote Desktop Services failed to join the Connection Broker on server Broker1.xxx.intranet;Broker2.xxx.intranet

Error: Current async message was dropped by async dispatcher, because there is a new message which will override the current one.”

Source: TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client, Event ID: 1281Remote Desktop Services successfully joined a farm on the Connection Broker server Broker1.xxx.intranet;Broker2.xxx.intranet

Our 2019 Terminalservers have been cloned from a server which was already member of an existing RDS deployment. Not sure if this might help finding the issue.

Windows Desktop Client MSRDC On Premise with Windows 2012 R2

Hi Guys,

I have a windows 2012 R2 VDI environment setup. I am running Windows 10 VDI host and Windows 10 Clients. Everything is working as expected. If I open Remoteapp and desktop on the windows 10 Clients, I can enter https://[FQDN]/api/feeddiscovery/webfeeddiscovery.aspx and connect to the VDI workspace. 

The issue I have is when trying to connect with the new Windows Desktop Clienet, MSRDC. I cannot get this to find a workspace. If I try and  email address I get We conldn't find any workspaces associated with this email address. I have create the _msradc and pointed it to https://[FQND]/rdweb/feed. If I try the URL that works with the old version, I cannot tell if its event trying to connect. 

What I would like to know, is if its even possible to use this with an on-premise network? If yes will it work with a windows 2012 r2? Also what address should you use and how do you test its.

Join new VM to an existing RDS HA Farm

Hello Everyone,

I have a small question.

I have configured a HA Farm (Broker, Gateway, Web) with 2 VM and each vm is holding the same roles.

Now my question is…

What happened if one of the server that is holding this services get corrupted and I don’t have any backup? I know that the functions still are going to work fine as we are on a HA Farm but can I redeploy a new vm from scratch and joined to the existing  farm. Is this possible?

Does anyone know if server 2019 RDS services naively support a way to deal with expired passwords or do I need to hack the pages like I've had to do with Server 2016 and earlier?

Microsoft Remote Desktop for Apple MAC by passing session host?

I have RDS farm deployed on server 2019. We have published remote desktop app so that the users can remote on to their work PCs from home. This works fine for windows and mac users from home. 

For windows users I can see the session on one of the session host servers, but for Mac users using the "Microsoft Remote Desktop" app i can't see the session.

Also we have applied the setting so that users cannot copy and paste to and from the remote PC but this doesn't get applied to the Mac users. Is there a way to disable copy paste?

Server 2016 report "Remote Desktop License Issue" when diagnotics say there is no issue

I have 4 Windows 2016 remote destop servers with a common license server. Recently when I remote into any of the servers I get the "Remote Desktop License Issue" error and the one-hour grace period.

However the remtoe desktop licensing diagnosis tool reports the correct license server, that I have 15 device CALs remaining available and everything is working correctly. Based on other threads such as this one:

I've tried configuring the license server via local policy instead of via the server manager tools, which makes no difference. The devices that already have CALs issued to them are working fine, even though it seems no new CALs will be issued even though the are available.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Windows RDS 2019 - Webcam

Hello Microsoft,

RDS 2019 should support the webcam feature but the isn't at the moment.

I've read some microsoft threads and can we support webcam on our RDS enviroment without to make changes on the client side? 

we have tried some solutions:

- local GPO webcam enabled

- Domain GPO webcam enabled

- Webcam redirection RDS enabled

- Windows 10 privacy webcam enabled

Is there something i've missed?

Hi everybody,
i am searching for quite a while now. I dont find a guide that fits my target solution.
Ideal solution:
1 Server as Session Broker / Web-Access (i dont want to use Web-Access)
2 Server as Session Hosts

The user should be Load Balanced between the two Session Hosts.

My Problem:
Some guides are with DNS Round Robin and others say to use the Session Broker as DNS entry.
DNS Round Robin: on redirection the user sometimes have to enter the password a second time.
DNS Session Broker: connection denied. the session broker is not redirecting the login.

Any advice how i can get the session broker to redirecting rdp connections?

- 3 servers are added at "all server" in server manager

RDS 2019 User Assignment for Apps not being saved

Hi,

I have 12 published apps, I have LIVE and TEST apps, by default everyone has access to the collection. When I assign a TEST AD group to TEST apps, they appear to save, but then when I go back into the properties of the app, the "Only specified user and groups" radial is unchecked again and everyone can access it again.

It doesnt seem to keep the option enabled, although I can always see the groups that I assigned in the box below, it doesnt seem to stay enabled for the permissions to work.

Any help appreciated.

Second RDG in other site in same farm for when 1st site is unavailable

SITUATION:

  • Current Farm (1RDG/RDW, 1RDB, 3RDSH + FSlogix) in Site A accessable via https://siteA.domain.com/rdweb with webfeed GPO
  • 1 RDSH is in site B where it hosts remoteapps that need SQLDB access in Site B
  • Users in siteA have access to desktop and remoteapps in siteA and a few remoteapps in SiteB
  • Users in SiteB have full desktop and remoteapps in Site B and a few remoteapps in Site A


GOAL:

  •  We would like to have a manual failover when siteA goes down so users could go to https://siteB.domain.com/rdweb and have the Siteb desktop and remoteapps



QUESTION:

  1. Can I setup a second RDG and broker in Site B and manage them in the same farm? We are not talking about using NLB to have two RDG's, the sites are in different countries, just two RDG using a different public FQDN (sitea and siteb.domain.com)
  2. it seems the server manager only allows one RDG?
  3. some suggest using two farms, but how will I get apps from site A in the rdweb of siteB and vice versa?

RemoteApp accessibility options

We have a few users that require larger mouse pointers and bigger font, their desktop is set like that with a large green cursor. However when using RemoteApp programs, all this is lost. Is there a way to keep these settings when using a remoteapp?

RDS CAL problem connect more than 2 user in the same time - SERVER 2016 ESSENTIAL

Windows Server 2016 Essential, clean installation, licensed, activated, in the workgroup.

Installed the role of Remote Desktop Services, Remote Desktop Licensing Service and Remote Desktop Session Host.
RDS license server is activated, a license for 5 users is installed.

In group policies, the license server is specified and the "per user" mode is selected. The licensing diagnostic tool does not find any problem

I can not make RDS to the server on just 2 connections. If I try to connect with 3 distinct users the server disconnect one of them.

There are no error records in the logs, the license manager shows that no licenses have been issued and 5 licenses are available.

 I just need more than 2 people to be able to rdp into the server at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated.

While adding Open licenses for the terminal server, I entered the number of licenses incorrectly. Instead of 5 licenses I gave 15, can I change it?

Our windows server 2012r2 stared with this issue, it is on a isolated network, and a week ago started giving this error "Because of an error in data encryption, this session will end."  I tired all solutions posted on TechNet, and on internet forums.  I reinstalled the NIC drivers, rejoined it to the domain, did the registry hacks as per another posted solution and no matter what, still giving the same error.  I even did a server restore from a date prior to this error and still no resolving the issue.

RDS Farm IE issue

Hi all,

We have a 4 server RDS setup.  All servers are Session Hosts with one also acting as broker.

Users are connecting fine across all the servers but we are seeing an issue with launching IE on a daily basis for some users.

This is random across all servers and not always the same users.  Other users on the same servers are opening IE with no issues.

All servers are running Server 2016 and patched up to date with the same applications installed on each.

I can see no errors in the event logs to indicate any issues.

I am wondering if this could be a profile issue for users or not but can't seem to find a common denominator for this issue.

Anyone else seen this or have any thoughts?

Outlook password prompt

Hi there

I am having an issue with being prompted for a password multiple times when accessing different profiles in Outlook on my remote desktop server. 

I access multiple email accounts through different Outlook profiles, when accessing the different profiles i sometimes get a variety of different error messages such as

Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened,

-Outlook cannot log on. Verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The Microsoft Exchange Information service in your profile is missing required information. Modify your profile to ensure that you are using the correct Microsoft Exchange information service.

-Trying to connect – need password.........and then just kicks us out without giving the ability to input a password.

Sometimes I am prompted for a password and when inputted it allows me no issues but other times it does not prompt for a password and i get these errors. Can you suggest what can be the cause and what i can do?

software versions are Windows Server 2016 Standard version 10.0.14393 and Outlook 2016 version 16.0.12730.20342 32-bit
