I have just bought 145 Windows 2019 RDS user licenses to cover both 2019 & 2012 RDS servers. When I install the licenses I selected open license
Product Type Windows Server 2019
License Type RDS per User Cals
Quantity 145
Thinking that they would be backwardly compatible with Windows 2012. So if a user connected to a Windows 2012 RDS server then it would allot them one of the 2019 user licenses.
I have a GPO in place to point the 2019 / 2012 RDS server back to the central licensing server. Which Seems to work and if i log onto one of the 2012 servers and run the RD License Diagnoser it tells me I have 152 licenses spare. The 145 I have just purchased
plus 20 we already had minus 13 in use.
As you can see from the below if I look at the License manager on the central server it does not appear to allot the 2012 RDS licenses from the 2019 ones, but has created a new License type and is saying it is overused.
When I installed the 2019 licenses should I of specified that only X amount were for 2019 & Y amount for 2012? If so how do I go about removing the licencees and re-adding them? OR is there somehting I have done incorrectly.
Hi there
I am having an issue with being prompted for a password multiple times when accessing different profiles in Outlook on my remote desktop server.
I access multiple email accounts through different Outlook profiles, when accessing the different profiles. All users have access to several mailboxes but rather than add these mailboxes into a single Outlook profile we view each mailbox through it's own Outlook profile, closing and re-opening Outlook to switch between mailboxes.
Every user has access to multiple mailboxes, at least their own and two non-personal mailboxes (e.g. sales@ and enquiries@ ) and some users have access to personal mailboxes for other members of their Team.
Several users have reported the errors I described above although not everyone but it may be that they don't switch quite as often and may not have experienced the problem or it has been less frequent and they have just not reported it.
Taking one of the users (UserA), who has reported the problem to me, as an example; they have access to five mailboxes, five Outlook profiles. They have access to the two non-personal mailboxes, their own mailbox and the mailbox of two members of staff. This morning I logged onto the Remote Desktop Server as UserA and repeatedly opened and closed Outlook, selecting a different Outlook profile each time I opened Outlook. I wasn't prompted for a password for one of the general mailboxes or user A's own mailbox. This didn't surprise me as these are the two mailboxes that UserA would most often use. I was prompted for a password for the other non-personal mailbox and UserB's mailbox but once I had typed the password Outlook opened successfully with no further prompt.
When I opened the mailbox for UserC I was again prompted for a password but this time I received an error. "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened."
I repeated this process of switching between mailboxes, Outlook profiles, every time I successfully accessed all except UserC but on the fourth time of trying I was successful and Outlook opened.
I am attaching screenshots of both the sign-in window that appears
And the error message I received for UserC.
software versions are Windows Server 2016 Standard version 10.0.14393 and Outlook 2016 version 16.0.12730.20342 32-bit
Kind regards
David

My Users need to access the Rdweb from different location in Internet. Example : https://myserver.domain.com/rdweb
So should i define a Firewall rule in my perimeter device as below :
Source : Any
Destination: my Server
Port : 443
We have the Proper SSL Certificated bought for the URL : https://myserver.mydomain.com/rdweb and create a A record in Public DNS to point to our WAN IP of the server.
is it safe to Open "Any" source to reach my server as it is accessed through Internet ?or Any better way available to do this connectivity established.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/licensing/news/rds-subscriptions?wa=wsignin1.0
I'm referring to the offering in the link above. This appears to be an annual or 3 year RDS User CAL subscription offered via the CSP channel.
So let's say I want to deploy a single server in Azure. There's no Active Directory, it's just a workgroup server running a single app. And let's say up to 5 users need to RDP to this server.
Traditionally I might purchase 5 x per Device RDS CAL's to achieve that. But it is stupid expensive CAPEX and puts off many small businesses from moving to Azure which is primarily subscription/pay-as-you go based.
My main concern is the RDS subscription offering states it is a User RDS CAL. You can't track per User RDS CAL's without Active Directory. So can these subscription licenses somehow be used in my scenario or converted to per Device CAL's on the RD license server? Will I get a RDS License Key as normal if I order this through CSP?

Hi,
I've come across this issue again. Now i have office365 pro plus 32 bit with officeE3 users. All the credentials are saved exept the outlook credentials. Every time i log in/out with a user and i start outlook the office365 login screen will come and you must enter the password everytime.
All the users are synced with azure AD.
I've tried the solution above but it still asking for the outlook password. (Teams, excel, word logins stay signed in)
Has anyone the same problem? Thanks in advance!
We have noticed after the pandemic hit that we can no longer connect to our RemoteApps portal using the iOS or Android RD Client. We get the error "No workspace is associated with this URL" when we try to connect. This worked previously and worked well. We have a ticket to MS about the issue but haven't gotten very far (opened the ticket April 2nd, still not resolved). Basically doing patch rollbacks on the servers but everyone is guessing at this point. So I thought I would try here.
This wasn't a feature we used very often until the pandemic hit, the employees began working from home. They wanted to start using their tablets and phones to connect to the portal. We used it previously but it was mostly the IT team that used it and it wasn't used very often. We suspect the issue started some time between December, 2019 and March 2020 but didn't noticed until the middle of March.
Here is a link about the client were are trying to use.

Attached it a Picture of the error.

Hi Guys,
I have a windows 2012 R2 VDI environment setup. I am running Windows 10 VDI host and Windows 10 Clients. Everything is working as expected. If I open Remoteapp and desktop on the windows 10 Clients, I can enter https://[FQDN]/api/feeddiscovery/webfeeddiscovery.aspx and connect to the VDI workspace.
The issue I have is when trying to connect with the new Windows Desktop Clienet, MSRDC. I cannot get this to find a workspace. If I try and email address I get We conldn't find any workspaces associated with this email address. I have create the _msradc and pointed it to https://[FQND]/rdweb/feed. If I try the URL that works with the old version, I cannot tell if its event trying to connect.
What I would like to know, is if its even possible to use this with an on-premise network? If yes will it work with a windows 2012 r2? Also what address should you use and how do you test its.
Thanks for your time in advance,
Craig

We have a machine that is running our shipping software with a scale. The software goes out to a SQL server and pulls some data. This makes the application run very slow as the node is distant from the SQL server.
To get around this, we are running the application through an RDP window on the RDS server (which is on the same rack). However, now the scale that is hooked to the local machine doesn't populate the weight in the shipping application.
so far I have tried:
1. Making sure "ports and other plugnplay" devices is checked in the RDP session setup.
Any other ideas on this?
Hi all,
I have run into an issue as the title of this question suggests.
So the senario is, I have (all Virtual):
2x 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Servers
1x 2008 R2 with Session Broker install
I haven't configured any RD settings on the session broker server (i.e. RD virtual desktop, RD Gateway, etc) It's purely setup as the RD Connection Broker
Each of the RD servers I have configured 2 NIC's. The 1st NIC is configured with NLB (NLB only setup for traffic on port 3389 all other traffic isn't handled by NLB). The other NIC is configured to be used only for session reconnection. I'm hoping this is the right configuration as it's how I have interpreted these guides:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772418%28WS.10%29.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771300%28WS.10%29.aspx
Please correct me if I have setup the servers incorrectly and what should be differently.
I have setup the NLBs Cluster IP. A rule has been set on the router to make it available externally
This worked fine with an old single RD Server (same IP as NLB Cluster IP, currently offline so no conflict) before the RD Farm was implemented. So I know the port forwarding is OK.
So NLB and Connection Broker Load-Balancing work well for users inside the network. It spreads sessions evenly and there is no problem with DNS resolving the farm name etc. Sessions that are disconnected are reconnected to the same server, etc.
Accessing the TS Farm from the external address isn't so successful
Connectivity is random. Rarely it works, sometimes it gets to "initiating remote connection..." and then disconnects. It doesn't work more times than it does.
So what do I need to do to get this working? Is there another component or something else that I need to configure to get it all working?
I look forward you your help
Thanks,
Trent
Hello guys
How can i deprovisioning a RDS CAL in on server (Windows server 2012) in order to configure in a new one (Windows server 2019)
Best regards

Hello RDS Forum Members,
we have a RDS-Farm with 5 Server 2019 RDS DesktopHosts.
on some of them the Startmenu does not respond to keyboard inputs.
The Search Icon left of the windows LOGO (startbutton) does not respond in any way if clicked with mouse.
We can see that on the affected Servers the searchUI.exe process is not running.
On server which behave like expected (no Problems with startmenuu or Search) for every logged in user we see a searchUI.exe -Process.
So the question is what is causing this bug.
If we uninstall and reinstall some software or if we install dotnet 4.8 the problem is garanteed to happen.
any help with this is very welcome.
kind regards
Erich
Hello,
I’m using Windows Server Standard 2019 1809 with Remote Desktop Services deployed and for about a week all users can’t connect to server. I found out in Event Viewer (Microsoft-Windows-RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS/Operational), that problem is caused by Remote FX, so I’ve tried to disable it. Unfortunately disabling Remote FX in registry and group policy doesn’t make any changes.
What should I do, to resolve this problem?
Hello everyone,
I am trying to figure out the easiest way to allow more than 2 RDP sessions at a time on my Windows 2016 Server Standard. I have tried using the google to help, but there are so many suggestions and 90% of them result in the original poster disappearing so I don't know the best way to accomplish this. I don't need anything extravagant setup, I just need more than 2 people to be able to rdp into the server at the same time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Hello,
I have a Windows Server 2019 which is my AD/DNS & RDS license server. From here I've configured a GPO to push the license server and user CAL to any server in my Servers\TS OU.
I stood up a new Windows Server 2016 w/SQL, added it to the correct OU. When I run the RDS License Diagnoser it displays the correct RDS license server, shows the qty of license installed and available. But if I run this command it still shows that the Grace Period is counting down. Why?
wmic /namespace:\\root\CIMV2\TerminalServices PATH Win32_TerminalServiceSetting WHERE (__CLASS !=””) CALL GetGracePeriodDays
Do I need to worry about that since the terminal server is showing it's talking to the license server?
If I go on the RDS license server and open the License Manager it shows that it is assigning licenses to users as they remote in.
Thank you
Hi,
I've recently setup a 2019 RDS build to allow some of our school based people access into our corporate resources but I'm having issues with Windows 7 devices accessing it externally. Mostly everything has gone well with the exception of Win7 devices.
With a domain joined machine Windows 10 and Windows 7 builds both work fine. Accessing RDS externally (going via the Azure App Proxy) Windows 10 works fine, MacOS works fine but I can't get any Windows 7 clients to connect. It logs into the RDWeb page and shows the desktop session icon but on clicking it produces an error:
'Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server's certificate has expired or has been revoked"
The certificates haven't expired but I'm not 100% which cert is being used between the client and the Gateway. We have a wildcard configured for the domain so the RDWeb page is using that cert but I'm not sure what is happening between the client and gateway.
As Windows 7 connects fine while a machine that is connected to the domain (I have a Win7 build in a VM on-prem for testing) I'm sure it isn't an issue with Windows 7 as such but I'm struggling to locate the root cause and come up with a fix for it. I'm thinking it must be something like a certificate (as the non-domain device wouldn't have the same as the domain joined device) or possible a setting(s) which are getting applied to the client via GPO. I need to try to get this working via non-domain joined machines as a lot of staff are having to work from home using personal devices, which a number are Windows 7.
I've tried multiple KB fixes. Reg fixes etc all which haven't helped so I'm hoping someone here has some previous experience in this area to point me towards things which I can check off my list. I'm afraid I've got about 2 weeks of RDS experience under my belt so far so if i'm missing something obvious to others, give a guy a break :)
