netlogon issue

Hi,

We have 3 Rdgateway servers ( server 2012 R2 en 2008 R2) in our domain and each has its own URL for accessing the internal servers from internet.

Yesterday I wan checking the netlogon logs and find out that each time we connect to RDgateway to access an internal server these events get logged. nts72 is Rdgateway server and nts80 is the internal server that we access. We dont see any issue with login, but I would like to know why netlogon says " The specified account not exist"

Set mouse pointer problem with multipe screens

We use Window Server 2012 R2 Version 6.3 (Build 9600).To access our application we use Web Access for remote desktop.

In our application we set the mouse pointer over a command via "Cursor.Position". It works well when the local pc have only one screen. It works also well when the local pc have two screens in the configuration [1|2]. If the configuration of the screens on the local pc is [2|1] it set the mouse pointer to the right border of the screen.

It works also well in each screen configuration when we run our application in Win7, Win8 or Win10.

We have not found any way to detect the error case and no way to solve it.

I have prepared a small test program. With this program I can reproduce the problem.

Any idea how we can solve this problem?

Best regards.

RDP issue Logonui.exe unknown module

Hi

Since several weeks I have a strange issue with a customer Citrix environment.

We deploying a golden image and running 9 servers on Windows 2008R2. The Citrix is version 6.5

Why Microsoft Forum, Citrix says its not ICA but RDP who fails and refers to Microsoft.

Almost every day the customer has issues to login to the servers.

As test we try to open each server via Remote Desktop. 1 of more servers (not all!) are failing to connect to RDP. Only console view seems to work.

In eventviewer we only see 1 Error event;

Faulting application name: LogonUI.exe, version: 6.1.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce79f70
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000007feefada5d0
Faulting process id: 0x1b74
Faulting application start time: 0x01d5d290f179a0fc
Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\LogonUI.exe
Faulting module path: unknown
Report Id: 2f43d812-3e84-11ea-a213-005056bf4206

I found several posts on an issue with LogonUI but never with unknown module.

The faulting process id is always different and is not a active PID.

Could somewone point me to a suggestion?

Problems started with latest Windows Updates. Return to previous versions is not possible anymore.

Thank you

I have built a Server 2016 RDS Farm (25 user cals spread over the 2 hosts) containing 2 session hosts, and now at the stage of installing software on each (both will have exactly the same software installed so they mirror each other)

For the following software below, how would i license the following

Visio

Project

Visual Studio

Would i need to buy 25 volume licenses for each software product so to cover the possibility of all 25 user cals being used.

Windows 10 - Remote Desktop serves Black Screen

Hi Windows 10,

I am having an issue with Windows 10 - every day.

But last 3-6 months, remote desktop connections fail with a black screen on my network!

Now I have started to feel true hate towards this OS, as this error, now seems to settle as a forever error that will stay?!

Issue is using RDP to other Windows10 device on my network, now serves a black screen after connection has been idle for some time - or it just turns black, just as i log in?!

I am able to remove black screen - only if disconnect, and reconnect. But again. After some time. I get a black screen again?!

As Windows continues with their disapointments towards the proffesionals on Windows10 since release.

This error in question, I really want fixed - to be working as it has always been - since the dark ages . RDP should just work! Every time - all the time.

So anyone - before I look up a lawyer to fight this - Please assist with the right trick to get this fixed......

Awaitng that true fix------ anyone?

Regards, Kato.

Remote Apps suddenly causing issues

$

I would like some help troubleshooting Remote Apps on Windows Server 2012 R2. For the most part, this service runs pretty well, but lately, we've had users that suddenly can't log in.

They will either see their session attempt to log in but never get past "Waiting for the User Profile Service", Or they might se the dialog "The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Service is currently busy. Please try again in a few minutes. Other users should still be able to sign in."

When I'm able to log in as an admin at this point, and select the Remote Apps icon in server manager, many of the components have the green in their image (Usually indicating they have not been configured yet). A restart usually resolves everything temporarily.

At one point when I selected the connection broker, I saw a red message across the top stating,"could not find the license server", which is on the same server. At this point it gets really bad, and even logging out of the server as an admin can hang.

I've noticed in task manager at this point there can be many processes running by the same name, as if logging off as a user does not kill their running processes.

Anyway. A push in the right direction would be most appreciated. Thanks

Multi Domains RDS Farm - can / can't ???

Simple questions I cannot find definitive answers to - can you configure a multi domain RDS farmwithout domain / forest 2 way trusts between them?

I have 5 Domains - OFFICE (where all staff log into for daily work), MGMT, PROD, UAT, QA

I would like to try and create a single pane of glass (RD Web Client) in the MGMT Domain which allows connection to session hosts inside the 3 business function domains QA, UAT, PROD.

Then allow and control only specific users access to the RD Web Client from the OFFICE domain.

I'm not interested in public access at all...this must function internally only...

E.G...

OFFICE - Control HTTPS access into MGMT RD Web Client namespace.

MGMT-RDSVM1 - RDS Gateway Role + RDS Web Access Role running RD Web Client.

MGMT-RDSVM2 - RDS Licensing Role + RDS Connection Broker Role.

PROD-VM1 - RDS Session Host (for accessing resources inside PROD)

UAT-VM1 - RDS Session Host (for accessing resources inside UAT)

QA-VM1 - RDS Session Host (for accessing resources inside QA)

Will RDS Connection Brokers and RDS Session Hosts work and see each other inside different domains, without trusts at all or perhaps maybe with only one way trusts or...

Do I rather need to build 3x RDS deployments, one inside each of the business functional domains with HTTPS access in via MGMT? What I'm confused by in scenario two is how to have only 1 RDS License Server with all out CALS loaded to service three separate domains that due to PCI-DSS security reasons cannot have trusts?

As always, thanks in advance...

durrie.

RDS without ADCS

Is it possible to install the RDS roles on a Windows Server (2012 - 2019), and use the RDS feature in a domain that does not use Active Directory Certificate Services?  If so, what are the drawbacks for doing so?

Java Web Start not working with per session virtual IP

$

0

We are running RDS on 2008 R2, using per session virtual IP, and we are unable to run any applications that use Java Web Start (we've tried 3 so far).

The JNLP file downloads and javaws.exe launches to run this, but never gets any further. The process just drops to about 200K of memory and stays inactive.

I have run Wireshark to see what is happening from a network point of view and there is no traffic after the download of the JNLP file. This is in comparison to running from my PC, where javaws downloads the individual files referenced in the JNLP file and then launches javaw.exe to run the code.

I have turned off virtual IP on a test server and this allows things to work as expected, so it is definitely the interaction with virtual IP that is causing the problem. I suspect that the security sandboxing that Java Web Start does is causing it to attempt to use the main IP of the server and that RDS is preventing it from doing so (or something like that).

Has anyone else had the same issue? Any ideas on resolving this?

RDS 2016 and Java with virtual IP

I sat up windows server 2016 RDS server, I installed the roles (we access, session host and connection broker) on the same server.

I enabled the IP virtualization per program and listed some processes so it will be bound to the virtual IP, for example, telnet.exe, JP2launcher.exe.

all of them successfully been able to be directed from the virtual IP except for Java Process (I used tcpview.exe to trace the processes), knowing that the event viewer shows that the virtual IP address was given to the process.

I repeated the installation on windows server 2012 and the same happened.

we configured the same regrading the IP virtualization parameters but on Citrix and every thing was working.

anybody had the same issue?

Multiple profile folders against single user on RDS server

I've just had a look at the remote desktop session on my 2012R2 RDS server, users folder being populated with multiple profiles created under the same user with user.000 and etc. I've provided an attachment as to how this looks at the moment. Is there any way to fix this issue where user profiles are not created multiple times for a single user?

ID 158 Warning The disk x has the same identifiers as one or more disk connected to the system

Hello,

I am currently setting up the Terminal Server collection (session host) testing environment, the collection included 3 session hosts(with load balance), 6 users, and the user profiles are located on a file server. All servers OS are the Windows Server 2016 Std eval.
Recently I found that the "The disk x has the same identifiers as one or more disk connected to the system. Go to Microsoft's Support website (http://support.microsoft.com) and search for KB82983588 to resolve the issue." appeared in the system log of the session host. It happened on the hosts and users randomly. I checked the KB82983588 and I think it's not the multiple paths issue since we only have one physical hard drive for storing the user profile. For the VHDs, the user profile is created by the terminal server services, not by copy and paste.
So I have no idea how to find out the root cause of this issue.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

Installing MPSA RDS User CAL on a Windows 2016 RD Licensing Server

I'm trying to install RDS User CALs purchased through an MPSA with no luck. I have tried selecting every agreement type and used the agreement number which is 10 digits long not the normal 7 or 8 for an EA and no matter what combination I try I am unable to license the server.

I believe I should be using the "Other Agreement" option but don't know if I'm using the correct agreement number as its quite long.

any help is welcome.

Questions on RDS CALS with Windows Server 2019

Hi Team,

I have couple of questions on RDS CALS

- With 5*2019 RDS User CALS, can we have five concurrent connection to a server running Windows Standard 2019 OEM?

- If we downgrade the Windows Standard server 2019 to 2016, Would 2019 RDS CALS work with Windows 2016 Server OS? If not, can we get RDS CALS 2019 downgraded to 2016 to use it with Windows Standard Server OS?

- If we already own 2016 User CALS, can we use it with Windows Standard server 2019?

- We use to have 2 RDS CALS included with Windows server 2008 earlier, Is it the same case with 2019 windows server standard?

RDS GPO to remove tiles and start menu items

I have been trying to find information on how to set up GPOs to remove all tiles and start menu items from our Server 2019 systems when remoted into. We are looking to have shortcuts on the desktop for any/all access on these particular servers. Any assistance is greatly appreciated, thank you!

UPDATE:

Let me add this as it seems I am receiving many replies surrounding Windows 10. We have a mix of external Windows desktop OS versions connecting into a Windows 2019 server via RDP. From there they are then remoting into their work desktops. We want to ensure that when they are remoted into the server we have locked down the server to only allow them the ability to remote into their workstation, having a shortcut on the server desktop for quick access. We want to eliminate all tiles and start menu items on the server, along with the search feature if possible.

Thank you for all your assistance and replies so far!

Setup Connection Broker HA multiple sites

$

Hi all,

We have an infrastructure deployed on 2 sites, Production and Disaster Recovery.

In order to manage this platform, I want to deploy an RDS Farm of Jump Servers for the engineers to operate.

This deployment will have 4 servers, 2 as a Connection Brokers in HA + 4 as a Session Hosts (including 2 CBs), also License servers will be deployed on Domain Controllers and SQL CB database will be hosted in an Availability Group with nodes in both sites.

In order to provide resiliency, I want to deploy 2 servers in Prod and 2 servers in DR.

My question is, can I configure 1 CB in Prod and the other one in DR site?

If so, I assume that both will use the same SQL DB for HA, but do you know if there's any way to configure that CB in DR points to SQL Db in DR where a secondary-readable copy of the DB will be running?

I know that probably this is an strange scenario and I'm pretty sure that the second part, the SQL one, is not possible. But just wanted to know if some of you faced a similar approach and even if there are better options to achieve this.

Thanks in advance.

Server 2019 Remote Desktop Licensing mode is not configured?

I have server 2019 standard and installed the RD licensing manager and my User CALs.  In License Manager  it shows my licensed CALs look fine.     I am getting a warning message about my Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured.  It mentions using the RD connection broker server to specify the remote desktop mode.  I'm not sure what they mean by this?
