ID 158 Warning The disk x has the same identifiers as one or more disk connected to the system

Hello,

I am currently setting up the Terminal Server collection (session host) testing environment, the collection included 3 session hosts(with load balance), 6 users, and the user profiles are located on a file server. All servers OS are the Windows Server 2016 Std eval.
Recently I found that the "The disk x has the same identifiers as one or more disk connected to the system. Go to Microsoft's Support website (http://support.microsoft.com) and search for KB82983588 to resolve the issue." appeared in the system log of the session host. It happened on the hosts and users randomly. I checked the KB82983588 and I think it's not the multiple paths issue since we only have one physical hard drive for storing the user profile. For the VHDs, the user profile is created by the terminal server services, not by copy and paste.
So I have no idea how to find out the root cause of this issue.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

Remote Desktop Services 2019 - domain users work; local users get a warning about disconnect in 60 minutes

We just built a new Windows Server 2019 server running Remote Desktop Services 2019, using the Quick Start install.  It's a single server so everything is on that one server including the Licensing Server.  Domain Users can connect without issues, but local users that connect remotely get an error "Remote Desktop License Issue" "There is a problem with your Remote Desktop license, and your session will be disconnected in 60 minutes".  The local user does indeed get disconnected in 60 minutes and has to reconnect.  What's wrong?

NOTE: I noticed in the Remote Desktop Licensing Diagnoser that the Remote Desktop Host Server version is Windows Server 2016 for some reason. It should be 2019.

RDS Gateway presents innexistant certifcate...

We are having an issues with our Win2012R2 RDS setup where the RD Gateway presents an outdated (and since renewed) cert to the end users connecting.

The cert used is not anymore referenced in the deployment (which lists the correct, new certificate)

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Get-RDCertificate -ConnectionBroker rd-sx-03.domain.com

Role Level ExpiresOn IssuedTo

...and is not even to be found in the certificate stores of the machine. I guess it is somehow cached in some obscure place I am not aware of.

In any case it is pretty confounding... Any idea how to solve this ?

preexisting open port for my custom licenser server

Hi,

Appreciate the help.    I am writing an application which will use a simple license server that I develop to authenticate users.

For my customers, I would prefer that they not need to open a port on their router and windows 7 / 10.   Is there a port generally open by default where the client app can request license validation?

Thanks,

Charles

Remote Apps suddenly causing issues

$

I would like some help troubleshooting Remote Apps on Windows Server 2012 R2. For the most part, this service runs pretty well, but lately, we've had users that suddenly can't log in.

They will either see their session attempt to log in but never get past "Waiting for the User Profile Service", Or they might se the dialog "The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Service is currently busy. Please try again in a few minutes. Other users should still be able to sign in."

When I'm able to log in as an admin at this point, and select the Remote Apps icon in server manager, many of the components have the green in their image (Usually indicating they have not been configured yet). A restart usually resolves everything temporarily.

At one point when I selected the connection broker, I saw a red message across the top stating,"could not find the license server", which is on the same server. At this point it gets really bad, and even logging out of the server as an admin can hang.

I've noticed in task manager at this point there can be many processes running by the same name, as if logging off as a user does not kill their running processes.

Anyway. A push in the right direction would be most appreciated. Thanks

Issue with user profiles

I have a Windows server 2012 running as a terminal server for about 10 users. Each morning for the last few days we have been having issues with user profiles not loading. At least one user has a temp profile when login in first thing in the morning. So far rebooting the server fixes and all is well for the rest of the day. So far each morning its a different user and it has happened to two users at the same time.

Just wondering what could cause this and where would i start looking to see for the cause of this issue? I've taken a look at the event viewer but couldn't find anything obvious.

issue rds farm broker

Hello All,

We have big issues with our customer.

The environment is an rds 2016 farm with 1 broker and a gateway and 20 rds windows server 2016 and a remote server for remore login.

For our production collection we encounter serieus issues since the 8th of January 2020.

The thing is we have 20 rds windows server 2016 servers with 6 core per socket and 1 virtual socket 24 gb ram.

The broker normally devides the sessions per server but for some kind of reason we see that on the broker 1 user is logged into a server.

However when i log in on the server directly there are  30 users logged and then then server become unstable.

Every morning this is happening now and it is not every time the same server.

we set the server with  too many connections to false and then restart the broker and then try to log of the users and dismount there profile disk so they can log in on a different server.

What we also see is the proces termsvc is 98%!!

Does someone know what is causing this issue we did not do any changes to the server and it worked always perfectly.

We have approximately 328 users devided over 21 rds server ( this is included the remote server.

Dear All,

Somebody has experience with problems connecting to Server 2016 RDS server for Apple Devices,

Working perfectly for any other client

But when a Apple device wants to connect through HTML5 secure connection i get a disconnection log ,

Error message

The server security layer detected an error (0x80004005) in the protocol stream and the client,

I unchecked the remote desktop setting for NLA usage in the security settings of the session collection but it doesnt make a difference, also I pushed a gpo for this setting enforced,

Security level is negotiate and encryption level Client compatible,

The disconnect reason is 14

I see its building up the connection , it did accept the connection , connection id created ,PrepareforAccept ,SendPolicyData,Perfcounter session started with instance id, and then it gets this security layer error message (0x80004005)

I have configured my Windows Server 2019 to start a program on remote connection.

This works fine, but our customers do not like the pitchblack background of the remotesession.

Is there a possibility to change this background to another color?

I know this issue was already discussed in this question but no Answer was provided.

Migrate some CALs to new RDS License Server

We are building a new 2019 License Server. We have an existing 2016 License Server. I am wondering if we can migrate half of the CALs from the existing License server to the new one and then just upgrade those. If so, how can we do this? We want to do this only during a transition period. We will migrate and upgrade the rest when we have confirmed everything is working with the new server.

Hi,

All our win 10 1903 clients, immediately after been updated from 1803 to 1903 start repeating keystrokes in remote apps. Servers are 2012 R2. RemoteFX cannot be disabled on session hosts servers since that solution causes problems to some of the apps running. Any one facing the same problem ? Any solution?

I installed RDS server in windows 2012 R2. Then as business need, we renamed servername1 to servername2. In Server Manager - Remote Desktop Services,  there shows error "The following server in this deployment are not part of thee server pool"

1. servername1.domainname.com

The servers must be added to the server pool.

I tried to fix this problem by running powershell to remove servernmame1 and add servername2. but each get write error. Any help to result these are highly appreciated!

Can't Publish RADC Work Resources to a session with redirected StartMenu

$

Hello,

I have a big RDS farm at a client, which mixes RDSH and RemoteApp session.

I'm able to publish those work resources into Session open into the RDSH collection of my farm. This way, my user (on their thinclient) are able to access the RemoteApp published by the collection, everything works fine, but I had to use the Windows 7 way, with the Powershell script and the feed.aspx file.

Everything fine this way, and our end-user are pleased to have direct access to the app from their Windows session.

But we also need to use redirected StartMenu via GPO, and when this is set, we cannot publish the Work Resources anymore.

I know that publishing those work resources create an entry in the start menu, but if I deactivate the publishing GPO, apply the redirected StartMenu GPo, I can't manually publish those Work Resources.

Any ideas of the why, and maybe the how to correct this ?

mstsc /shadow requires high port?

I have a server 2019 remote desktop services collection.  The hosts have the standard filewall rules.  I can sucsefully RDP from my PC both to the console, and a session on the server from my PC.  If I try to shadow a user session the mstsc just closes.

I created a pass all TCP rule from my PC to the host on its firewall and the shadow function then works.  I cannot however find any doumentation about which states what range I should open for shadow traffic.  Running netstat (see below) shows the established connection when the firewall rule is active, and syn_sent when not active.

Can somone advise of what port range I need open?

Many thanks.

Matthew

netstat

TCP    192.168.nnn.70:55516    rdhxxx19-3:63954     ESTABLISHED - this is with all tcp traffic allowed

TCP    192.168.nnn.70:55531    rdhxxx19-3:63986     SYN_SENT      - thi sis with only standard ports (inc. 3389) open

Device Redirection tab missing from RDG?

I expect this may be my mistake and I'm more than happy to be corrected...but when configuring Remote Desktop Gateway policies on Windows Server 2019 I am missing the "Device Redirection" tab.  Its not available in the options anywhere.

Has that feature been removed from Windows Server 2019?

I would like to try and disable some device redirection settings...which seemed straightforward :-)

Thanks
