HTML 5 RDS issue with ILO and ESX console

$

Hi There,

We have recently moved from Citrix XEN to MS Windows Hyper-V to provision our virtual machines to students to teach them how to work with certain hardware/software. To reach our goal we've setup 5 blades running Server 2019 Datacenter Edition with Hyper-V and an extra blade that runs our RDS environment. Since we have students remoting in from a variety of places and companies and RDP is blocked by most we opted to use the new HTML 5 webclient.

The problem we are facing is that in an HTML5 session, whenever a students accesses a ProLiant iLO through either .NET or Java the keyboard stops functioning, or should we say, the key mapping no longer makes sense. The ENTER key works but everything else is not resulting in output. If we take over our HTML5 session with RDP we can see that the input is in fact there, but it is gibberish.. in other words a W becomes a / and a ? becomes a ".In NOTEPAD or WORD or any other application the input is proper and keyboard mapping is fine. As soon as we open an iLO session or even the ESX Console the keyboard mapping is off.

We thought of raising a case with MicroSoft, however, HTML 5 webclient still being a BETA Product we figured try the forum first.

Thanks!

Dimitri.

Black screen after login | RDP in Windows Server 2012R2 | VMWare remote console in Windows Server 2012R2

Hello everybody

I even have a scenario with Windows Server 2012, where on the remote console via VMWare I enter username / password and then black screen.

I try to do Remote Desktop, open the remote console and then close without asking for Login.

I can only log in to the VMWare console in safe mode.

All the tips I try to apply are not successful.

I appreciate any information that can identify where this failure is and avoid redoing the installation.

Best Regards,

Accessing recently build RDS server does not trigger MFA authentication

I built a 2016 RDS/RD Gateway VM with roles of RD Access, RD Gateway, NPS, Licensing server, RD Broker.

I have installed the MFA agent configured the same as other RDS Servers.

The new server is named RDS-GW and the gateway portion is working properly, however, I cannot get the MFA to trigger when trying to access from outside of our network, or within the network on an untrusted IP range.

When configuring the MFA agent, all other MFA servers are listed.

All other RDS servers are triggering the MFA when trying to connect to them.

Any help will be appreciated.

RDP farm automatic session reconnect

$

We have a RDP farm with 100+ users who are using Windows 10. Sometimes we have network problems like short network outages and packet losses. When network problems occur users are disconnected from RDP session with error: Your Remote Desktop Services session has ended.

However when I am logged on random server (not member of RDP farm) and network problems occur - I have window that says: The connection has been lost. Attempting to reconnect to your session...

In connection properties of RDP when connecting to RDP farm the checkbox "Reconnect if the connection is dropped" is checked and grayed out.

Why RDP doesn't try to reconnect itself in RDP farm and looses connection immediately? Are there any settings that control this behavior? Sometimes users are forced to manually reconnect to RDP farm several times per hour if network is unstable. If there is no such setting may be there is at least timeout setting that I can configure for higher values so that RDP session survive short network outages?

Remote desktop services

dear sir / madam,

currently I'm deploying the application utilizing thin manager. The application is utilizing the RDS (Remote Dekstop service). I have primary and backup/additional domain control. Step 1 is to configure RDS and this step requires the Primary Domain control running.

The RDS works properly if the Primary Domain Control (PDC) is running, but if the PDC problem/not connected then the RDS is not connected (additional domain control is running).

Is the RDS is only connect to PDC ? How can i configure the RDS which connecting to PDC and additional Domain control..so when ever the PDC is down, the RDC still connect to additional domain control

please advise

Thank You

Issue with Automatic Scaling of RDS Hosts in Azure

Does anyone have a resolution for this issue?

I'm trying to implement this in our Azure environment: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Automatic-Scaling-of-9b4f5e76/view/Discussions#content

When we run this script against our RD Connection Broker that has multiple collections, we have an issue with all servers in a single collection being set to drain mode.

Details: We have 2 Collections on the RD Connection Broker. Both Collections have 3 RD Host Servers. The RD Host servers in each Collection are each in their own Resource Group, meaning all RD Host Servers for a collection are grouped into a single resource group. I set the Config to keep up 2 Servers in off peak mode and run the script against a resource group. All servers in Collection A were put into Drain Mode. All 3 RD Host servers in the collection had a user logged in, so that may have caused an issue as well. Can anyone offer suggestions on how to force this script to only focus on a single collection? Or is there a better way of accomplishing this?

Thanks in advance!

Security package error when remoting

$

A few of our users receive the following error when attempting to establish a remote desktop session.  "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because a security package error occurred in the transport layer."  For most users, connections are not a problem.  The environment is as follows:

Remote Desktop Session Host - Windows Server 2008 R2

Remote Desktop Gateway - Windows Server 2012 R2 (SSL certificate has been installed and chain verified)

Client computer that cannot connect - supports RDP 8.1.

The users that cannot connect are behind a firewall at a customer facility.  The do not have trouble connecting to normal secured web sites through port 443.  I'm having trouble trying to determine if I have not configured something correctly on the gateway or if the customer has blocked traffic in some way that does not allow RDP.  Since the transport should be HTTP (instead of RPC over HTTP), I don't think this should be a problem.

Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Weird RDS Server 2019 License Issue

$

So I am setting up a new RDS configuration. I have the all of the RDS roles installed on one server except the license server. It is on a Domain Controller. Here is what I am seeing when a user logs into the RD server.

  1. Open a remote desktop session on the RDP server. Licensing Manager then shows this. That’s good.
  2. Click on the license details and you can see that it issued a license to one user. That’s good.
  3. Run a report to see User Cal usage. Still looks good.
  4. Go back to Server name, REFRESH the view, and now I have 10 licenses available, 0 issued. User is still logged in and the only thing I did was run the report.
  5. Go to the RD License and the issued license is gone. When the issued license is in here, I cant revoke it, but running the reports sure does revoke it.

Has anyone seen this before? Am I doing something wrong? Please help!

Server 2016 RDS Start Menu and Taskbar Issues

$

We're running a single RDS setup with Windows Server 2016 Standard and about 2 weeks back we started to experience Windows Start Menu and Taskbar issues where these functions would suddenly stop working for all of the RDS users.  We are not using profile disks and each user connects to the RDS via our gateway server and their profile is stored locally on the RDS server.  No desktop or Start Menu redirection is setup.  We have 25 RDS CALs and there's normally about 20 users logged into the RDS server.  The server is a physical server running a 12core Intel CPU with 32Gb of RAM and an NVME SSD Intel disk.

The desktop apps like Microsoft Office will continue to function fine but if you minimize the running apps, the user can not click on the minimized apps as the Taskbar doesn't respond along with the Start Menu.  The only thing that currently works is to logout the user session using Task Manager or to reboot the server.  When the user reconnects and gets a new session, the Start Menu and Taskbar will work for several hours before it goes back to the locked state.

I have read quite a few posts and I have re-installed the Windows apps with the following PS script:

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

I have run a full sfc /scannow and checked the health of the windows image.  These all complete fine without issue.

Tonight I have found some older posts from 2017 about Server 2016 RDS black screens that are caused by duplicate Windows firewall rules getting created for each user every time they login.  While we don't have the black screen issue, I'm wondering if our issues with the Start Menu and Taskbar could be related to this same duplicate firewall rules for each user.  When I checkedHKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\RestrictedServices\Configurable\System on our RDS, I am seeing thousands of entries.

Does anyone know if these duplicate firewall rules can cause the Start Menu and Taskbar issues?  If so, what's the proper way to delete them?

Thanks for any input.

Multiple sessions, programs wont start

Hi,

I have a newly installed Windows 2016 Terminal server. I sat up HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\fSingleSessionPerUser registry setting to allow one user multiple login.

As I expected the users could log in multiple times, but the second, third ... login could not run programs, explorer restarts.

Eg: cmd wont run, but the registry editor runs.

Did i miss a required settings, anyone faced a problem like this?

Remote desktop printing not working from windows 10 to window 7 pc

I am using remote desktop to remote from a Windows 10 client to a window 7 machine and printer re-direction is not working.  I have enabled this in the remote desktop connection setting but the printer does not get mapped.  I have ensured they are using the same driver.  There are no ports re-directed on the windows 7 machine (so no TS01 ports).  Any idea's?

Thanks

Server 2019 RemoteApp (Terminal Services) and Splash Screens (Hang / Stuck)

$

Hello all,

We have been transitioning some of our remote servers from 2012 R2 or 2016 to 2019 when we recently saw this issue. We have an application that is installed on the server and published as a RemoteApp for the users. When the application launches, there is a Splash Screen that shows the version and information about the app while it is loading. As the Login dialog box for the app is opened, the Splash Screen is closed several seconds before it opens. The problem is that the Splash Screen is stuck on the screen. If the Advanced RemoteFX setting in Group Policy is active, the screen will remain in full and if it is disabled, it will leave a Black Box in the exact location that the Splash Screen had been.

There is another thread about this in Terminal Services and there are no answers or responses since May (except what I have recently added). This is exactly what we are also seeing. (I cannot post the link as the system will not allow me)

Really do not want to have to pay Microsoft for an incident to get an answer as to why this is not working as it does in 2012 R2 and 2016 without any issues. The version of 2019 is Version 1809 Build 17763.652. For the Client PC, this happens with Windows 10 Version 1809 Build 17763.503 and Windows 7 Version 6.1 Build 7601 SP1.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Stephen

Windows Server RDS Freezing with Flickering "Not Responding" in the top bar

$

We have around 15~ Remote Desktop Session Host servers of varying versions (2012 R2, 2016 and 2019) which are experiencing freezing and flickering issues with "Not Responding" appearing in the top bar and the program being unresponsive when switching between tabs. Other symptoms include screen flickering and, when in Task Manager, the tabs sometimes disappear until you roll the mouse over them. These issues started appearing after the weekend of 23rd March 2019 (23/03/19).

I have been scouring forums looking for other people with the same issue but can't find anyone with similar symptoms except someone called Chris_UKDE and his questions haven't been answered either.

At first, we thought that this was caused by a Windows Update but we have been through all of the updates and cannot find any consistent update or lack of update across the servers that seems to have caused the problem. We thought it might have been KB4489889 but after uninstalling this, the problem still remains.

We have opened a case with Microsoft and we are waiting for them to analyse some logs that they gathered on Friday and they have advised various registry fixes and disabling hardware acceleration but none of these have worked. I am taking to the forums to see if anyone else is a. having any luck with their diagnosis and b. having these issues at all(!) and c. if we manage to fix it, to share it with you so you don't have to experience the same pain we have.

The issue does NOT appear to happen in Safe Mode BUT when running a Selective Startup from MSConfig, these issues still happen, eluding that it's still a Microsoft element causing the problem. We are mainly seeing the problems in Microsoft Office programs but we do get a few issues in other Microsoft programs, such as Internet Explorer/Task Manager and also Chrome.

Most of the servers are running on VMWare ESXi 6.0-6.5 but we do have one native Windows Server with the problem. We have tried updating/uninstalling VMWare tools but this does not seem to fix anything. We also thought this might have been related to the video driver, so we booted the server with "Base Video" options in MSConfig but this still didn't fix the problems.

I am hoping that there are others in the same position as me, looking for an answer but having no forum to discuss it on, hence this post. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Incorrect Idle time in Server Manager

$

Hi.

I have notice that Server Manager\Remote Desktop Services\Collections\CollectionName\Connections

shows incorrect Idle time. It begins count Idle time only for disconnected sessions.

Even when session was reconnected it continues counting Idle time, ignoring user activity.

Powershell cmdlet Get-RDUserSession returns the same incorrect Idle time.

Only "query user" command returns correct information.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

P.S. Reproduced on Windows Server 2012 R2 with latest updates.
