RDP stuck at "Configuring Remote Session" WS2016

Hi. We have a new WS2016 RDS deployment (VMs on Hyper-V):

 - 2x WS2016 RDGW in NLB

 - 2x RDCB in HA configuration

 - couple RDSH servers

The problem is that in 30-50% of the connection attempts via these gateways, the connection is stuck at the "Configuring remote session" message. The connection is never successfully estabilished when this happens and it is closed without any error couple minutes later. When you try again (or just immediatelly cancel the connection and reconnect), the connection may or may not go through.

When this problem happens, I can see there's single HTTP connection on the RDGW that accepted the connection with 0 bytes transferred in either direction. There are no related errors at this time.

Can anyone help? Btw. this problem also happens when connecting to a different single-host RDS deployment through these gateways.

I suspected the problem might be in the NLB, but removing either of the gateways from the NLB configuration (and from RDS farm) doesn't help, the issue is still there.

Rebooting the gateways helps for a short while (hours), but then the issue is back.

There are some other errors on the gateways, but these don't correlate to the connection attempts (event 210, source terminalservices-gateway: "Http transport: IN channel could not find a corresponding OUT channel" with no other details).

RDP clients are various ... W8.1, W10, Mac...

Remote FX crashes in Server 2019

Hello,

I upgraded our RDS infrastructure to Server 2019 and ti seems any kind of right click context menu or admin prompt will eventually crash the session after about 15-20 seconds. For instance, with an admin prompt after you enter the credentials, a remaining white box will hang around until the remote session crashes. No settings were changed between Server 2016 and Server 2019 however the infrastructure is in VMWare. Also, If I turn off Remote FX the box is then black and the same thing occurs. Please Help!

Thanks!

I need help - going crazy - Server 2016 collections

We've been operating a clusterized hyper-v remote desktop server for a few years now. 2 Hyper-V nodes, one management server / license server / broker / web interface ...

It basically works, live migration, iscsi-backstore, automatic collections (domain join...), UPD on network share... that part is quite nice actually.

Unfortunately there are some programs that don't survive the sysprep / automatic cloning, therefore I'm forced to create a manual collection, do domain join by hand etc etc. This appears to work, as long as I don't put a 2nd VM into that collection. We need UPD to work, but for some weird reason the 2nd and so forth VM don't even try to mount the profile disk. It's not that I forgot to remove the DVD drive and the LUN is blocked, been there, done that. That would create an error in the hyper-v node's log, but there is nothing I can find. Somehow something gets very confused :-(

Please forgive me for my incoherence, I'm quite a bit sleep deprived now.

Hoping that someone has seen this issue before, I don't know where else to look.

Robert

Is it possible to publish all internal resources to remote users throug web application proxy?

Hello Everyone:

I have recently deployed Web Application Proxy with ADFS (Both installed on seperate VMs). I have created relying party trut for G-Suite on ADFS and have successfully published it throug we application proxy as fs.externaldomain.co.uk (internal domain is different) and have pointed fs.externaldomain.co.uk to public ip address of the WAP server.

I have gone through a few articles which mention how to deploy remote desktop serivces through WAP, but none of them mentions pusblishing multiple services on the same WAP server.

I plan to deploy remote desktop serivces with RD Gateway. I also plan to deploy DirectAccess. As these services will be accessed by remote users, can I configure WAP server to be a single point of entry for all these services?

Many Thanks

Server 2012 R2 RDS Server prevent local logon

We have a RDS server which has been running for a few years now with no problems.

We are beginning to add a few more applications to this server now and providing access to users around the company who are using software that is not Windows 10 compatible.

However we have now discaovere that these 'standard' users are able to RDP to the actual server itself as well as using the RDWeb link we provided them.  This is a bit of a security risk for us.

Is there a way of allowing these users to have access to the RDWeb sessions but not allow them to RDP to the server console?

RDS - User profile service failing login rather than creating temporary profile

I have a session host group that uses user profile disks.  When I try to login a second time into the group with a user account, I expect that the user should get logged in with a temporary profile due to the other session locking the UPD.  Instead, the user profile service is failing the login due to the inaccessible profile.  On my previous domain, this wasn't an issue.

I checked and verified the obvious GPO setting, "Do not log users on with a temporary profile" was NOT enabled.  I'm not sure what else could prevent the temporary profile from being created.

Hi,

I would like to install an RDS on Windows Server 2019 for 20 users. They will have a full desktop with two or three applications.

I have per-user CALs licenses.

What is the best way to do this, considering I have only one server (cloud based) ?

Many thanks !

RDS hardening - bat file through share

Good day,
Our customer came with a serious problem:
RDS 2016 Remote app is delivered to the customer. The remote app can browse the local computer. Access to server disks is denied.
The customer made a bat file on his local computer and browsed through the remote app to the bat file. The bat file contains a line of tekst:
cmd.exe
When he opens the file cmd opens. Access to the disks is denied, but on the cmd line he can open powershell and regedit. With powershell he is able to browse windows and windows/system32.
The registry he can read as read only.
How can we prevent him to do this trick?
We have policy in place that should prevent cmd.exe, powershell.exe and regedit.exe from running
But I think it works because he uses his local computer to start it.

If you need more information, please let me know and I will provide it to you.

Kind regards,

When there are two RDS servers which they obtain the RDS CAL from the license manager in another server the Domain Controller.

If the same client tries to access the two RDS servers at the same time will this be counted as a single  RDS CAL? Or will the client requires to have an additional CAL for access?

I appreciate any response,

Thanks in advance

Barcode not working with RemoteApp but works with RemoteDesktop

I'm trying to use Microsoft RD client on Android Barcode scanner. I have a RDWeb server that I can use to deploy the app and it works on all windows devices. On android I have two issues.

One is the Barcode scanner doesn't input anything to the program. It scans the barcode but doesn't fill in the data.

Another one is the screen resolution. The device resolution is making the app appear too small.

RDS Server User Desktop Icon Display issues

Hello Guys

We are in the end phase of publishing our new 2016 RDS Server. Now its the last 5% (Fixing Appearence Issues).

And the main problem right now is this:

Either the text vanishes/cuts off or it changes its color/loses the shadow/frame.

When i refresh it gets back to normal (Google Chrome is the expected, ThinLinc and VNC Viewer is what i get).

When i hover over the icon it reverts back and this is just ugly.

Im not really sure what the issue could be so i searched for a bit but couldn't find anything regarding this issue. I also did a sfc /scannow to check if any of the files that are responsible for this might be corrupt or something but to no vail.

This is the 2nd server we setup that has the same issue.

I appreaciate every bit of help.

Kind regards

RDS Connection Shadowing

$

Hi,

I have a Server 2016 RDS deployment with two servers.  One server is the connection broker, gateway and a session host.  The other server is just a session host.  I have found that I am unable to shadow a connection on one of the session host servers.  The server that contains the broker, gateway and session host, is able to shadow connections just fine.  If I try to do the same (I am doing this from the server manager GUI) on the other session host, it does not work.  If I view the list of connections, every connection shows an ID of zero, instead of the actual session ID.  Viewing the list of connections on the other server does properly display the ID of each connection.  So if I right click a connection and choose to shadow it, it displays an error "The specified session is not connected."  I am sure this is related to the fact that the session ID is not being displayed properly.  Can someone offer some assistance in getting this resolved?

Domain user cannot log on to terminal server

So we have a customer with a Terminal server, and one (actually a few, but we started to work with one) user was expericening a few unrelated issues. So we tried to remove the user, as i ahve been thought a couple of years back the way to go would be:

Deleate user home folder from C:\users\USERNAME
Find SID in profile list in regedit, and deleate it
Remove user from HKEY_users

And then the user would get a clean login next time.
But as soon as the log-in is thorugh with "applying user settings", we return to log in screen.

Evenviewer gives: Disk 36 has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system. Go to Microsoft's support website (http://support.microsoft.com) and search for KB2983588 to resolve the issue.

Disk 36 does not exist in disk management.

I've been looking up and down, but i cant seem to find anything related, and i'm really tired, so sorry if this is somewhat short.
Is this method no longer usable to give a user a "new profile" on a terminal server with the same user account?
Or am i missing something i have to remove?

Any advice is greatly apriciated.

Black/pixelated screen when H.264 hardware encoding is used

$

I have a PC set up in the other room in my house (local LAN use only) that I use for surveillance camera recording. I have a persistent RDP connection from it to my main PC a few rooms over. The RDP host has an i9900k and an RTX 2060 graphics card. My client PC that I use to view it has an i4790k with a GTX 1060 graphics card. Both 32GB RAM. Less than 10% CPU usage on both. They are completely hard wired, gigabit end to end, and the host RD PC is only sending out about 20mbps constantly. It is being displayed on a 4k monitor at 60hz on the client PC.

I wanted to take advantage of the hardware encoding capabilities of my graphics card and offload that processing to the RTX 2060. When I go into Group Policy Editor and enable "Prioritize H.264/AVC 444..." and "Configure H.264/AVC 444...", the "Video Encode" on the GPU area of the task manager shows good activity, but the screen will flip out on me and cause these seizure-triggering black pixelated artifacts that take up the entire screen.

Some other info:

1) I have already read about and tried turning off bitmap caching, and deleting the cache in AppData. I tried this and it didn't work.

2)If I move the display from my 4k monitor to my 1920x1080 monitor and resize, then move it back to the 4k monitor and resize, it'll go away for a random amount of time before doing it again. Sometimes 2 days, sometimes 20 seconds. I have also tried resizing my 4k monitor to 1920x1080 and it makes no difference.

3) I swapped out the RTX 2060 with another video card I had on hand, and it does the same thing.

4) Both video cards support the encode/decode requirements. I checked the nvida matrix to verify this. I also checked the event manager and saw Event 162 and 170, verifying compatibility.

5) TCP and UDP are enabled.

6) It does this regardless of what is being viewed. I restarted the host RD PC and only opened a web browser with a news article. While scrolling, the text would be blacked out.

7) Sometimes, instead of being black, it will be pink, or will display images of previously viewed screens.

8) If I turn off the two H264 options in Group Policy Editor, everything works fine.

9) If I select one or the other of the H.264 options, it works fine (but no Video Encode activity on the GPU), but if I enable both of them, the issues arise.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

RDS 2012 R2 / Black Screen

Hi,

I have set up a brand new 2012R2 RDS farm but I have a strange behavior that I am unable to fix :

"Idle session limit" and "End a disconnected session" are set by GPO  ( 1 hour, each)

But each time a user reach one of this limit, this cause an issue on the terminal server service :

 - svchost process ( attached to terminal service) becomes unresponsive

- no more users are able to login  ( login process goes fine, no error message; but users get a black screen... CTRL+ALT+DEL works and permits to launch some commands ( calc, notepad...)

- connected users can't close their session : they get stuck at " waiting for user profile service"

Any idea of what is happening ?

Thank you.

Windows Server 2019 does not get CAL´s from RDP licensing server

Hi,

As the title says, Windows Server 2019 does not get CAL´s from RDP licensing server.

It seems I only have this issue with 2019 and Server 2012, 2016 works fine.

I installed a new licensing server on Windows Server 2019 and activated it and added a User CAL pack for Windows Server 2019.

Connected the 2019 server I want multiple RDP connections via gpedit pointing to the licensing server and also selected the User CAL´s.

I also tested on our existing Server 2016 with 2016 user CAL´s and it doesn´t seem to license the connections, I can still only connect with 2 users.

Is this a known issue or am I missing something here?

Niklas

Dear Support,

We will have a Win2012R2 terminal server for subgroup access, to address the “CredSSP” RDP error message, a server security patch and reg key is required.
Could we have another method to resolve the issue for “CredSSP” RDP error message?

Steps:
1) Install below OS security patch -
2019-04 Security Only Quality Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB4493467)  Windows Server 2012 R2     Security Updates       4/11/2019  n/a    39.8 MB
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4493450/windows-server-2012-update-kb4493450

2) Install below reg key on RDS servers -

Win server 2012 r2

Joined to Domain.local as RDWEBSVR.domain.local

installed all 185 critical and recommended updates.

created certificate for outside.FQDN.com

set up firewall to pass https: to/from RDWESVR.domain.local using outside.FQDN.com

added RDWeb role as a single server deployment. All rolls are on the same server using quick deployment. All domain users given access.

added outside.FQDN.com cert to gateway.

added RD licensing.

verified port 443 not blocked by firewall.

checked LAN client connectivity.  First logon to gain access to Web apps -OK.  second Logon to launch Web Apps -OK Apps launch fine.

Next Checked access from outside of LAN.  First Logon to gain access to WEB Apps -OK.  Second Logon to launch Web-Apps -OK, however receive error message that server cannot be found and will not launch.

verified that https://outside.FQDN.com/rdweb could be launched and Apps worked correctly from deployed server.

verified iis RDWeb pages TSGateway value as outside.FQDN.com

ran set-RDPublishedName.PS1 and set name to outside.FQDN.com

neither of these made any difference.

Checked RD server farm verified that outside.FQDN.com was selected and it showed "OK".

What have I missed?
