rdweb authentication error 0x607

$

Hi,

I deployed a RDS 2012r2 with a self-singed certificate and everything worked until I changed the certificate with a third party cert.
I can still login using RDP from a client through RDS Gateway and broker .. is working, but when I try to log on through RDWeb I get the famous "authentication error 0x607" error.
Setting/changing the collection security to low ... is not working for me.I can't imaging that recreating the collection is the only solution to this.

Thank You,
Best Regards,

Windows Server 2012 R2 - Remote Desktop Services warning

$

Hello,

I logged on today on a RDS server to perform some windows updates and i saw a warning that it says "Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured.
Remote Desktop Services will stop working in 33 days. On the RD Connection Broker server, use Server Manager to specify the Remote Desktop licensing mode and the license server.

Our production/RDS infrastructure consists of 4 vm's

Name    Roles
RDS1 -- RDS-RD-SERVER, RDS-GATEWAY
RDS2 -- RDS-RD-SERVER, RDS-CONNECTION-BROKER, RDS-WEB-ACCESS, RDS-LICENSING
RDS3 -- RDS-RD-SERVER
RDS4 -- RDS-RD-SERVER

On the disaster site we have again RDS on 4 vm's and the roles are like this:

RDS1 -- RDS-GATEWAY
RDS2 -- RDS-CONNECTION-BROKER, RDS-WEB-ACCESS, RDS-LICENSING
RDS3 -- RDS-RD-SERVER
RDS4 -- RDS-RD-SERVER

The message does not appear on the disaster site. Only on the production. I believe that someone tried to do something on the production site and messed up the roles. Could someone help me out with this issue?

Thank you in advance!

Remote Desktop ActiveX Control - Handle errors

Hello,

We are using the Remote Desktop ActiveX Control to write our own RDP application. In case there is an error in RDP connection, we want the application to close and return an error code.

The control in case of error(e.g wrong user/password) displays the message and remains there. We want to handle the authentication error and close the application in case of error by logging the error.

Also how can we handle wrong Host details and close the application.

How can this be accomplished?

Thanks in Advance.

Sumit

Remote Desktop Services Manager snap-in is missing (W2012 & W2016)

I couldn't find the Remote Desktop Services Manager snap-in in W2016 TP4

Browsing the web I understood that it is already missing from W2012. Yet I failed to find a replacing tool.

I mean, how to get an overview of who is connected to which RDS servers ?

I have numerous RDS servers, 2003R2 and 2008 R2. They are not members of a farm or alike. No broker, No roaming profiles. We kept things simple. They all are independent servers. The virtualization layer taking care of the "high availbility".

At the moment I have a MMC running in a W2008 server, where I have added all my servers (note that monitoring a W2016 TP4 RDS is OK...).

But will I monitor all my RDS servers from a W2016 or W2012 server  ?

IE states that Cookies are Disabled.

Cookies are NOT disabled.  I have also reset to default, emptied all history, etc.

Any Suggestions?

Windows Server RDS Freezing with Flickering "Not Responding" in the top bar

$

We have around 15~ Remote Desktop Session Host servers of varying versions (2012 R2, 2016 and 2019) which are experiencing freezing and flickering issues with "Not Responding" appearing in the top bar and the program being unresponsive when switching between tabs. Other symptoms include screen flickering and, when in Task Manager, the tabs sometimes disappear until you roll the mouse over them. These issues started appearing after the weekend of 23rd March 2019 (23/03/19).

I have been scouring forums looking for other people with the same issue but can't find anyone with similar symptoms except someone called Chris_UKDE and his questions haven't been answered either.

At first, we thought that this was caused by a Windows Update but we have been through all of the updates and cannot find any consistent update or lack of update across the servers that seems to have caused the problem. We thought it might have been KB4489889 but after uninstalling this, the problem still remains.

We have opened a case with Microsoft and we are waiting for them to analyse some logs that they gathered on Friday and they have advised various registry fixes and disabling hardware acceleration but none of these have worked. I am taking to the forums to see if anyone else is a. having any luck with their diagnosis and b. having these issues at all(!) and c. if we manage to fix it, to share it with you so you don't have to experience the same pain we have.

The issue does NOT appear to happen in Safe Mode BUT when running a Selective Startup from MSConfig, these issues still happen, eluding that it's still a Microsoft element causing the problem. We are mainly seeing the problems in Microsoft Office programs but we do get a few issues in other Microsoft programs, such as Internet Explorer/Task Manager and also Chrome.

Most of the servers are running on VMWare ESXi 6.0-6.5 but we do have one native Windows Server with the problem. We have tried updating/uninstalling VMWare tools but this does not seem to fix anything. We also thought this might have been related to the video driver, so we booted the server with "Base Video" options in MSConfig but this still didn't fix the problems.

I am hoping that there are others in the same position as me, looking for an answer but having no forum to discuss it on, hence this post. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Ghost typing the letter G

We have a 2016 standard server to which a few employees connect to for Terminal Services. Only one client using Windows 10 has suddenly developed an odd problem. The letter "g" keeps being printing. It doesn't happen on the computer itself, just in TS. I removed all peripherals thinking maybe there was some signal being transmitted from there, but still happens. Any ideas?

Cumulative Updates breaks RDP since November.

We have an RDS server (2016).  Since November or October, every cumulative update (well until Jan, haven't applied latest yet), breaks RDP. We can connect to the gateway fine, but accessing the RD desktop just fails with a warning about not being able to connect.  If I uninstall the Cumulative update, then all works again.

Event log shows hundreds of Schannel events (A fatal error occurred while creating a TLS client credential. The internal error state is 10013.)  The remote desktop management service fails to start and the server manager shows this issue:

the server pool does not match the rd connection broker that are in it. errors

Any ideas on how to fix?

RDP to Azure AD joined computer

I am trying to connect to a remote computer that is Azure AD joined. Both the client and host computer are running Windows 10 version 1809. Currently I am connecting without NLA to be able to authentication myself, but I would like to connect with NLA.

According to this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/connect-to-remote-aadj-pc this should be possible, providing you use the username format "AzureAD\JeroenDeWit" to connect. However, this results in an error stating "Your credential did not work. Remote machine is AAD joined. If you are signing in to you work account, try using your work email address." I can't post a screenshot because my account is not verified yet.

Other guides like https://cloudbuilder.io/documentation/Windows10Pro-RDP-AzureADJoined/ also suggest authenticating without NLA.

Am I doing something wrong or is Microsoft doing something wrong? :)

RDS2019 - Compatibility --> High DPI settings stop working when RDS role enabled

Hi.

We are rolling out RDS 2019 in our environment. We've got a lot of complaints about the DPI settings not being able to set in the session anymore like in 2008R2, but it has to be done on the local client, which is really cumbersome. However, when done so, we still have some applications with issues.

Now, for most of them I can fix it by setting the compatibility settings:

On a Server 2019 test machine, when set to Application, the application actually shows up fine. On RDS2019 though, it doesn't. I've been working on this for a while, until I installed a machine from scratch, do one step of our installation script at a time, and see where it started failing. It turn out as soon as we enable the RDS role, the DPI settings don't have any effect anymore, and the app is all blurry.

When I remove the RDS role, they start working again. Would anyone know how to fix this?

RDS 2016 on Hyper-V 2016 Server (Gen 2) - Windows Audio process jams

Hi,

I have a cluster of Windows 2016 RDS servers that get a random problem about once a week.

Users report that they cannot reload Chrome after they close it and Skype For Business stops working as well.

After much digging we find that a svchost.exe process has jammed which is the Windows Audio Service.  This is stopping all RDS users from closing Chrome properly and Skype for Business starting.

If we manually end the process, all users sessions return to normal and it may not happen again for another week.

I have a feeling that this is something to do with the fact that the RDS servers are Hyper-V machines.

We see the following in the event log:

RDS Issue - The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.

2 Windows Server 2012 Standard domain controllers

2 RDS Servers running Windows Server 2012 R2

We also have 2 Broker Servers and 2 Gateway Servers

From time to time we are running into an issue where the AD account logs in to Windows fine...but when it comes to our RDS login screen...some user accounts have issue where they login...see the published apps...click on one....the connection begins to handshake...then after a few moments we get:

The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.

User profile cannot be loaded

Can anyone help me to troubleshoot, please?

I can give any more info that is required. There is a file server where their home directories are stored and on the same server...there are roaming profile folders

The RDS servers load balance...sometimes a user would go on to one...then another session they might be on another.

On the users directory of the RDS servers...the particular user account that is getting this issue...we don't see a user account folder for them...it doesn't get created...it just gets...failed the sign-in?

Server 2016 (NOT 2012R2) with RDS how to prevent users from rebooting after Windows Update?

$

I have a Server 2016 with Remote Desktop Services installed. A huge problem: Remote users are prompted to install updates, and worse:after updates complete ordinary users are prompted to reboot the server and that reboot actually happens, abruptly pulling the plug on the other users.

I have read many articles about this issue, but all of those articles apply to Server 2012R2, not Server 2016. The GP methods I have tried for 2012 R2 do not work on Server 2016.

Pulling my hair out. All I can do is disable the Windows Update service, and even that seems to turn itself back on.

Thanks!

RD Gateway Manager Crashing adding a RAP

I've set up a HA Connection Broker cluster, and in order to get the web gateway working again, I need to set up a new RAP policy that specifies the RD Broker RR Address, but every time I try, when I click 'Add' in 'User Groups' (And anywhere else in the MMC, it seems), the MMC crashes with the following output:

Problem signature:

As far as I can tell from searching, it seems to be .NET that's crashing, but I haven't found any solutions. All three servers (Web Gateway and both Connection Brokers) are fully patched.

has anyone else sen this and/or have any ideas how to either fix it or maybe some kind of workaround?

Windows 2016 RDS - Redirected Start Menu problems

$

We have a 3 node Windows 2016 RDSH farm with UPD and user redirected folders enabled. After much trial and error we also managed to customise the start menu, exported it to an .xml and redirect all users start menu to this file. This seemed to workfor a few weeks but we are now seeing issues with the pinned tiles disappearing. 9/10 times the pinned tiles do not show but strangley on the odd occasion they do display correctly. There is no obvious pattern to this. It can be for any user on any RDSH server. We have tried deleting a users UPD and redirected appdata but the issue still occurs. We cannot see any errors within the RDSH event logs for this either.

We've seen and tried several methods for configuring start menus for Win10/Win2016. We would like to define a manditory start menu for all users. Is the a simple, tried and tested way of doing this in Win2016 with UPD and user redirected folders enabled?

Saving Credentials

$

Just a preface here, I understand why this is happening, but not sure why it is happening for one situation vs. another.

I have an older 2008R2 TS farm that I inherited that is being decommissioned in favor of a new Server 2016 Setup. Note that in both situations, the TS farm is off domain to the users and has a separate Active Directory.

When connecting to the 2008R2 environment, users by default are allowed to save their credentials (Remember Me Box)

When connecting to the new 2016 environment, cached credentials cannot be used and the "Remember Me" box is missing

I know that by default if the destination RDS environment is off domain that windows blocks this by default, but is this being done on the server or client side? I'm not sure why it would allow saving credentials for one environment vs. the other if they are both off the domain.

Roaming profile users getting temporary profile message

$

Several users across two different terminal servers are being forced into using a temporary profile.  I have no way of knowing if they are logging off (despite continued re-education) or if they are just disconnecting, leaving the session to be interrupted later.  The only way I've found to fix it is to reboot the Terminal server.

If I check regedit under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList, I don't see a .bak.  I can sometimes see the ProfileImagePath is to a temp folder.

The users have a roaming profile that's saved to the fileserver upon logoff.  I can get into the folder, but if I try to go to a sub folder, I don't (as a domain admin) suddenly have access.  So the profile server isn't able to do anything either.  I could probably TAKEOWN on the folder, but that's not telling me what's causing this issue.

Is there anyway to fix this without rebooting?  Also, what could be causing this?  We've had more in the past 3 months than since I've started working here.
