Hi, after install the webclient and bind certificate to port 3392, I get this error message.
WebSocket connection to 'wss://dc.redecr.intranet:3392/rdp' failed: Error in connection establishment: net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
There is no firewall between the client and the server, the port 3392 is open on RDS Server 2016.
Any ideas?
Thank You

Hi,
to prevent users from knowing about other users on a terminal server what can I do?
By default users could:
-browse c:\users\*
-use taskmgr.exe
-tasklist
-qwinsta
-netstat
-? perhaps other commands, applications
to gain information about other users on a Terminal Server like Account Name, processes used, Network Connections.
I could prevent access to the obvoius like eventvwr + other administrative tools, c-drive or adjust permissions on qwinsta.exe but with cmd.exe and taskmgr.exe it already is difficult because it limits users e.g. from ending a hanging process.
Ideally it also would require to whitelist every single allowed application and prevent execution of portable software for users.
Are there any recommendations?
thank you
Markus
Hi,
How can I solve his issue on Windows 10 Home? All solution on the web is related to pro version.
So our RDS server is currently windows server 2008 R2, and wanting to migrate or upgrade to a Windows Server 2016
With that being said, as of currently our RDS environment doesnt have a load balancing function so everytime we go on to do a maintenence on oneof the server, we have to tell the user to connect to the secondary
from the next RDS server i want to implement a load balancing function so its a win win for both admin and the user
i did a little research and apparently by building a secondary RD broker server i can achieve this
i wanted to get some advice or help from you guys if its possible on regardain how i would go about this?
i have a lab environment so ican test it out, but i read somehwere that i cannot use SQL expresss in order to achieve the load balancing function
if anyone could give me an insight on how i can achive this it would be more than appreicated!
kind regards.
Hi All,
I have an issue whereby I need to save UDP(User Profile Disk) using DFS domain-based. The error message I received is : The network address "\\domain\dfs\share" is not available.
Is it a supported scenario or configuration?
Thanks
We're running a single RDS setup with Windows Server 2016 Standard and about 2 weeks back we started to experience Windows Start Menu and Taskbar issues where these functions would suddenly stop working for all of the RDS users. We are not using profile disks and each user connects to the RDS via our gateway server and their profile is stored locally on the RDS server. No desktop or Start Menu redirection is setup. We have 25 RDS CALs and there's normally about 20 users logged into the RDS server. The server is a physical server running a 12core Intel CPU with 32Gb of RAM and an NVME SSD Intel disk.
The desktop apps like Microsoft Office will continue to function fine but if you minimize the running apps, the user can not click on the minimized apps as the Taskbar doesn't respond along with the Start Menu. The only thing that currently works is to logout the user session using Task Manager or to reboot the server. When the user reconnects and gets a new session, the Start Menu and Taskbar will work for several hours before it goes back to the locked state.
I have read quite a few posts and I have re-installed the Windows apps with the following PS script:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
I have run a full sfc /scannow and checked the health of the windows image. These all complete fine without issue.
Tonight I have found some older posts from 2017 about Server 2016 RDS black screens that are caused by duplicate Windows firewall rules getting created for each user every time they login. While we don't have the black screen issue, I'm wondering if our issues with the Start Menu and Taskbar could be related to this same duplicate firewall rules for each user. When I checkedHKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\RestrictedServices\Configurable\System on our RDS, I am seeing thousands of entries.
Does anyone know if these duplicate firewall rules can cause the Start Menu and Taskbar issues? If so, what's the proper way to delete them?
Thanks for any input.
Ken
Hey
Unable to connect to RDSH (collection) from Windows 7 - All Windows 10 works.
If I disable NLA on the Windows 7 clients its able to connect to the RDSH (collection)
If I connect "directly" to a RDSH it works. (but not over our connection broker)
Any ideas?

Hello,
We have 8 RDS, One Broker, Windows 2016 Std., on a Farm.
We have GPO's Policies on those servers.
From Time to Time, some users are experiencing task bar freezing.
The desktop icons are working, but the task bar is freezing and you can not do nothing on the Task Bar.
The only way is to log off and log in again.
It there a solution ?
With Best Regards,
Haim
I have a Windows Server 2019 as a Remote Desktop server, with an app that relies on Word Viewer 2003 for printing.
All printer redirect connect nicely, Clients are Windows 7 and Windows 10 and all work as it should, until I try to print. - Word Viewer shows only printer installed directly on server the user has rights to, and blank printer spot if there are no printers. (I uninstalled them).
I even tried set up that only default printer redirects via GPO, but that didn't work either.
Does anyone knows if there was some permission change on Server 2019? Didn't have that problem before.
UPDATE: To illustrate:

UPDATE2: Also, when I select printer and print, the printer remains util the program session is finished. When I restart the program, the printers are lost again.
Hi Community,
The company I am working for has multiple sites dotted around the globe. All offices have their own local domain but in one forest. In this scenario:
DomainA = Forest Root
DomainB = Global Office 1 <--- The RDS Farm is located within this domain
DomainC = Global Office 2
DomainD = Global Office 3
DomainB is a mix of Windows 7 and Windows 10 1703/1803 PCs and all can connect to the RD Farm fine.
DomainC consists entirely of Windows 10 1803 PCs and all can connect to the RD Farm fine.
** DomainD consists entirely of Windows 10 1803 PCs BUT NO MACHINES CAN CONNECT TO THE RD FARM ***
For DomainD, if a machine is NOT bound to the domain (i.e., a part of a workgroup), then access to the RDFarm works fine. It resolves the Gateway for the RDS Farm with it's external address, it takes a specific route (trace route) to that gateway and nslookups gives me back the correct info too. The DNS Servers specified on this workgroup PC is the internal domain controller and the Forest Root's DNS located on it's DC.
When I bind this PC to the domain, tracert, ping and nslookup against the gateway all resolve exactly the same, but I am UNABLE to connect to the RDS Farm. It sits on "Initiating Remote Connection", then times out after 90 seconds and displays the following:
Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of the following reasons: not enabled, turned off, check network etc" (all of which I know aren't the issue, as all of the other global offices can connect without any issue).
The same issue on the domain bound PC is also apparent when DNS is over-ridden and I just specify 8.8.8.8.
Looking through the event logs on the client, I see the following:

On the Server side, I see a 3 logs associated with this connection attempt, all of which are along the lines of:
The user "me@company.com", on client computer "IP:Port", has initiated an outbound connection. This connection may not be authenticated yet.
The RD Farm is configured in a HA setup; 2 servers both hosting the WA and GW roles / 2 servers both acting as Connection Brokers and 2 Session Hosts. This is exactly the same set up in this office (DomainD) and it is in DomainC which works perfectly. All Domains can see DomainA (Forest Root), but selective traffic enabled between child domains (which I cannot control!)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!
Many Thanks,
D
Hi,
I need an advice.
I have 2 standalone servers. Each of them have RD Web, RD Connection Broker and RD Session Host roles installed. Users are using Full RDP session, no Published Apps.
Each user connect to server via RDP to: server1.contoso.com or to server2.contoso.com
Everything is working, but when i need to install updates it is a nightmare.
How can i setup a single rdp link, for example: remote.contoso.com ? Like that if i deny new connections to server2, once the existing connections expire i will be able to update the server transparently and without interruptions for the users. I prefer
not to use DNS RR. May be some Load Balance in front (like KEMP) ? I'm not sure what exactly i need to balance ? RD web or RD CB ?
Thanks,
S
Hi,
Environment is all server 2016.
I have server that is past of the domain, but not part of any RDS deployment. It's a management server used by about 10 system administrators.
I also have a RDS deployment with a server that has the licensing role. Can i point the management server to the licensing server without adding it to the RDS deployment?
We have around 15~ Remote Desktop Session Host servers of varying versions (2012 R2, 2016 and 2019) which are experiencing freezing and flickering issues with "Not Responding" appearing in the top bar and the program being unresponsive when switching between tabs. Other symptoms include screen flickering and, when in Task Manager, the tabs sometimes disappear until you roll the mouse over them. These issues started appearing after the weekend of 23rd March 2019 (23/03/19).
I have been scouring forums looking for other people with the same issue but can't find anyone with similar symptoms except someone called Chris_UKDE and his questions haven't been answered either.
At first, we thought that this was caused by a Windows Update but we have been through all of the updates and cannot find any consistent update or lack of update across the servers that seems to have caused the problem. We thought it might have been KB4489889 but after uninstalling this, the problem still remains.
We have opened a case with Microsoft and we are waiting for them to analyse some logs that they gathered on Friday and they have advised various registry fixes and disabling hardware acceleration but none of these have worked. I am taking to the forums to see if anyone else is a. having any luck with their diagnosis and b. having these issues at all(!) and c. if we manage to fix it, to share it with you so you don't have to experience the same pain we have.
The issue does NOT appear to happen in Safe Mode BUT when running a Selective Startup from MSConfig, these issues still happen, eluding that it's still a Microsoft element causing the problem. We are mainly seeing the problems in Microsoft Office programs but we do get a few issues in other Microsoft programs, such as Internet Explorer/Task Manager and also Chrome.
Most of the servers are running on VMWare ESXi 6.0-6.5 but we do have one native Windows Server with the problem. We have tried updating/uninstalling VMWare tools but this does not seem to fix anything. We also thought this might have been related to the video driver, so we booted the server with "Base Video" options in MSConfig but this still didn't fix the problems.
I am hoping that there are others in the same position as me, looking for an answer but having no forum to discuss it on, hence this post. Any advice greatly appreciated.

we have RDS installed in Windows 2016 standard edition and use session-base desktop deployment.
It was working fine for about one year. About two weeks ago, we started to have the following issue:
This computer can't connect to the remote computer.
The two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support.
When this issue happens, we find some users are disconnected in the RDS-Collections-QuickSessionCollection. But we cannot log/sign off those users, they are always showing there.
BTW, we can sign of those users in the Task Manager-Users.
We can solve this issue by restarting the server. How to fix it without restarting the server?
Thanks!
Hello,
into my RDS deployment, currently i've some app published with a longer name because it's the same app than other but on another host version.
The newly published app with a longer name are truncated.
For example the name of the app is : "Valid Windows 2016 - My application"
Into the remote desktop web access, the name of the app is truncated at "Valid Windows 2016 -"
How can i increase the number of chars displayed for each icon of app ?
Thank you,
We have OpenGL application working on a server computer. If later we connect via RDP to this server, OpenGL application continues to function without any problems. Obviously RDP just transfers image from server to remote computer.
If we start the same OpenGL application on the same server from RDP session, it runs OpenGL not on server but on the remote computer. Application crashes on operations that require OpenGL 2.0 or higher.
Is there any way to force RDP to run OpenGL code always on server no matter how it was started, directly on server or from remote computer?
