Hello!

How can i request Active Sessions number via WMI from RDGateway? So i found PowerShell Script which get numbers i need:

(Get-Counter @("\Terminal Service Gateway\Current connections") -ComputerName "127.0.0.1").CounterSamples.CookedValue

But is any change to make the same via simple WMI request?

I found some classes, but they not work, and i think i miss a little:

root\cimV2\TerminalServices

SELECT ConnectedResource FROM Win32_TSGatewayConnection

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Non Interactive application timeouts with RemoteApp 2016

Hi

We are attempting to run a background application that has no system tray icon via remoteapp, however, because its non-interactive and has no system-tray icon, the RDS connection disconnects after 20 seconds (as per: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2345390/remoteapp-sessions-are-disconnected-when-all-remoteapp-windows-and-use)

Several other applications are deployed by RemoteApp, and as long as the user keeps one of them running, it does not disconnect. However, there are points in the day when this is the only one running, and as such the session disconnects.

Is anyone aware of away around this. I can't find away to increase the disconnection time from 20 seconds, only the logoff time.

Thanks

Windows Store RD Client can not connect

I have Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Home computers, both fully up to date, nether on a Windows Domain.

Home can connect, with the (old) Windows Desktop RD client, to connect to the Pro.

Home will not connect to the Pro with the Windows Store RD Client.  The error is that the Username or password is not correct.

I've searched and see there are a lot of problems reported with connecting from the Windows Store RD client and tried some of the options suggested. I've also seen that the Windows Store RD client reputedly has better security, so good it can't connect!

So:

1) How can I connect with the Windows Store RD client?

2) Is it worth the effort of persisting with the Windows Store client or is the old desktop client just as good?

Windows 2016 RDS License Issue

Hi All,

I had a new deployment for RDS environment, a new Windows 2016 RDS license server configured for per user license. The RDS license server was not activated until this week, and the RDSH, which run Citrix XenApp , no longer accept any connection. We tried just regular RDP to the console and always got the following error, on the event log of the RDSH.

But when run the RD Licensing Diagnoser on the RDSH and everything is good, see the following

I could not find any troubleshooting document for Windows server 2016 all I found was for Windows 2008 R2/2003/2000 which was outdated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Non-persistent RDS environment

Hello everybody,

I have searched all over the internet for an answer to the question "how do I set up a non-persistent RDS environment?".

But I still haven't found it. I know that you can accomplish this by going the VDI route and setting up a non-persistent VM.

This is not what I want or am trying to set up.

I do not want the users to have personal desktops/folders stored localy on the RDS host. They have to be removed or reverted to an earlier state.

The "temporal folder" option in the RDS setup does not provide the desired function. And I cannot find any other option to make the user sessions and folder truly temproal.

I would really appreciate the help.

Best regards

Does Windows Server 2019 Essentials have the ability to allow 10 Remote Desktop Users? Either natively or by purchasing RDS CALs? This server is in workgroup mode, not a Domain Server.

RemoteApp RDS2019 - splash screens stuck on client

Hi!

I am testing RDS 2019 with RemoteApp, and I have problems with startup splash screens. Each splash screen creates a button on the client’s taskbar and does not disappear from desktop and taskbar after the appearance of the main window. For example, I run three RemoteApp and I have three splash screens and three program windows on my desktop. And even if I close these windows, the splash screens will still remain on desktop and cannot be closed. This happens only in RemoteApp and does not occur with a remote desktop mode. I tried to recreate an RDS farm again, but it does not help.

This does not happen with all programs (having splash screen), but with many. At the same time, there were no such problems at RDS 2012R2/2016.

As RDCB and RDSH used Windows Server 2019 with latest cumulative update (2019-01). As clients used Windows 10 1709/1809 with same update.

Server 2008 R2 Std Terminal Server frequent BSOD

I have a 2008 R2 Std Term Server.  Has been having 3 to 5 BSOD per day over the last few days.

Have tried:

- Remove and reinstall production apps

- Run scans with WebRoot and MBAM (no issues found)

- SFC

- CHKDSK

- Driver Check and Update (Driver Reviver)

- Windows Updates

- Removed all un-needed virtual hardware (CD/DVD, Floppy, etc)

Server is a VMware virtual machine version 8.  Host is a Dell FC430 running ESXi 5.5 (build 2068190).  A second VM (Server 2008 R2 File Server) is running on the host as well, not having any issues.

DMP and MSinfo files available as soon as my account is verified by MS and I can post links for download

Thank you in advance.

How to find what TLS protocol the Client requesting for RemoteApp

$

Hello,

I wonder what protocol does the client requests when launching the RemoteApp.  We choose to Negotiate option for the collection and client compatible on security.

On the network traffic, we are only allowing TLS1.2. sometimes when a client launches the Remote app and they facing spinning issues " configuring remote session" and spins forever. Sometimes it will connect just fine. Wondering it could be because of the communication issue between client and RDS server.

Please help me how can I see whether it is a communication issue or not?

Gateway RAP Network Resource Policy and AD groups

$

I have been having difficulties getting the computer permissions to work by group in the RA Network Resource policy for remote desktop farms in HA mode.  Published app's fail to connect because I cannot find a way to add the HA gateway name to an AD group.  The AD group needs a computer account with the alias name of the connection broker.

I am always forced to use a RD Gateway-managed group or allow users to connect to any network resource in the RA policy.  Either of these are not desirable, we'd like to use a single AD group for this across multiple RDS servers in our farm.

Does anyone know a simple way to add an AD alias "computer" account for the HA Gateway name so I add it to an AD group and use that group in the RA Gateway policy to allow users to connect to published apps on the RDS servers themselves?

Printer Redirection not working in Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi Team

We have 10 Windows Terminal Server 2003 Enterprise Edition-R2 (X86). Printer redirection is perfectly working when all clients (Windows XP, Windows 7, Vista and Even Server 2003) are connected from MSTSC/WEB interface. User are able to take print without any problem.

Recently we installed 10 Windows Server 2008 R2-Terminal Servers and checked the functionality. All seems fine but the problem is with Printer Redirection. When XP (x86), Windows Server 2003 (x86) are connected, prnter redirection is not working. To resolve this issue we installed same driver in remote Server but still not happening. Even we migrated all drivers using Microsoft Printer Migration Tool, but still same issue.

If I try to redirect from Windows 7(x86 and x64), Windows XP (x64 with SP3) and Server 2008 it works perfectly. What may be issue? Can anyone help me to resolve this issue because we need to make them live soon

RDS brokers in multiple regions - where to put SQL

$

Hi All,

I'm designing a multi-region RDS 2016 farm where 2 of the regions have very stable internet connections but the 3rd does suffer from intermittent internet outages. The office is on an island in the Carribean and the telco thinks nothing of cutting the connection to the island for a few hours for maintenance every so often so there's not much I can do about that. I also have to think about hurricanes and the odd ship that hits the undersea cable. As if things weren't difficult enough :)

Currently, all users at all offices are using PCs but we are introducing RDS with the long term plan to have everyone using RDS session-based desktops, also available externally. There are many reasons for this, including an ever-growing population of remote users.

The main user population is in the Carribean but our SQL databases for critical in-house applications, Exchange and a few other important apps run out of our main data centre located in a very stable environment but will all be moving to Azure (US) and O365 this year.

My preference would be to put all the RDS environment (brokers, GW, Web, RDSH etc) in our main data centre or Azure as our critical data and apps aren't accessible during an internet outage anyway but I've already lost that argument.  So that's enough background.

To ensure users in the Carribean office can launch an RDS desktop session from a thin client when they have no internet connection I'll have to have the brokers in HA, one in the Carribean, the other in our main data centre. As this will require SQL, will the broker in the Carribean office still function should it not be able to communicate to the SQL DB in our main data centre? is the broker clever enough to cache the settings locally and continue to work or will it cease to handle any connections when the DB is unavailable?

If it will not function without a continuous connection to the DB, I guess my only option would be to have the SQL DB in HA group with both SQL servers servicing their local brokers. I'd really like having to avoid paying for 2 SQL licenses.

Thanks

Conor

User is logged on to a temporary profile

Hi guys,

Over the last couple of weeks I had an issue on different Windows Server 2016 RDS servers with users' profiles when users logged in to a temporary profile. The errors in the Event Viewer are on the screenshots below. (In the order of being generated).

I have two questions regarding this matter:

1) Is there any way to avoid profile re-creation in such situations?

2) What is actually a root cause of this issue? Can that be a result of some Windows update?

Kind regards

RD session connections windows server 2016 - two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted

$

we have RDS installed in Windows 2016 standard edition and use session-base desktop deployment.

It was working fine for about one year. About two weeks ago, we started to have the following issue:

This computer can't connect to the remote computer.
The two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support.

When this issue happens, we find some users are disconnected in the RDS-Collections-QuickSessionCollection. But we cannot log/sign off those users, they are always showing there.

BTW, we can sign of those users in the Task Manager-Users.

We can solve this issue by restarting the server. How to fix it without restarting the server?

Thanks!
