The article at http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2012/03/06/performance-issues-due-to-inactive-terminal-server-ports.aspx discusses how inactive ports can slow down performance, etc. It refers to Server 2008. I'm on Server 2012. In the registry at [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{28d78fad-5a12-11d1-ae5b-0000f803a8c2}\##?#Root#RDPBUS#0000#{28d78fad-5a12-11d1-ae5b-0000f803a8c2}] I am finding 47 ports (TS01 ...), and I am the only user on the system.
Questions...
(1) Is there any harm if I manually delete those entries from the registry?
(2) The article refers to a hotfix (KB 2655998) for Server 2008. Should I try applying it to my Server 2012?
(3) That article also refers to a FixIt tool 50833 that will delete unused ports. Is it safe to install and run this on Server 2012?
Thanks for (anyone's) help! Art Lieberman
