windows 2008 r2 rds - domain joined

hi firstly please excuse my ignorance here but I am dealing with things way beyond my technical knowledge.

we have a domain controller (windows server 2012) running active directory and about 12 pcs on the domain (win 8 pro) - all inhouse and on our lan.

we need to allow access to 1 application to all the inhouse pc`s - but also about 10 remote pcs (in other remote offices via rds) - we have a windows server 2008 r2 server that will run the application and the remote desktop services.

my question are:

does the windows 2008 r2 server need to be domain joined

how do I use the a/d accounts for the rds server (can this even be done or do I need to create new users and group policys on the rds server)

note: I don't want to run rds on the domain controller as I am worried about the local lan slowing when there are users logging on to the rds - that's why we have chosen to use 2 servers.

any help or if some one could point me in the direction of an idiots guide it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

dave
