Hi, i have a .NET app that at a certain point can show a custom menu setup with panels ..

if the user minimize the remote connection windows leaving this menu open , when it re-maximize the remote desktop windows it seems that the applications receive many left clicks (or the enter key , don't know exactly, since the menu reacts to both input in the same way). The nect effect is that the active menu entry command is executed many times.

does anyone knows what should i check  ?

thank you

Time Zone Redirect Doesn't work on Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server

Hello All,

A client has two Windows 2003 and two Win 2008 R2 Terminal servers.

When users from a different time zone login to the Win 2003 server, the time zone of the server changes to reflect their own time zone. However when they login to the Win 2008 R2 servers, the time zone on the server doesn’t change.

I already enabled the "Allow time zone redirection" on both Win 2008 R2 Terminal Servers in :

Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Device and Resource RedirectionYet when the clients login to the 2008 server and checks the time on the server, it still shows local/server time and not their own time zone.

Any input will be appreciated.

Desktop Microphone in Terminal Server session

This is a first for me so forgive me in the manner this may be requested.

I intend to have a laptop that has a microphone, record the laptop user's voice on his terminal server session.  The laptop will be running Windows7 while the terminal server will be running 2008 R2. There will be NO OTHER Microsoft or vendor products installed for this test to progress as it is NOT required (unless you advise differently).

From reading forums I am confused as to the minimum requirement to allow a user to record. I have found a reference for a Registry change and I have found a reference for a GPE change. But I want this to go smoothly so I thought I'd ask the forum for advice.

Here goes.  Registry, first.
  1. On your server, modify the following registry setting:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp
fDisableAudioCapture     REG_DWORD     0x00000000

  1. After making the change, Start the RD Client on a laptop PC and configure "enable" for Audio Recording Redirection.
  2. Now start the remote desktop session to your Terminal Server and test your microphone for audio capture on the TS desktop using Sound recorder.

  1. I am not sure, but isn't this all that is needed to allow user TS recording?
  2. Or, is a GPE also required? And, IF SO, should the GPE change precede the Registry change or should it come after?
"Whew....A mouthful." Thanks in advance

Unable to RDP into Server (The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted)

My environment is a private cloud using Amazon Web Services VPC, we have about 20 servers that are joined to a domain controller.

from time to time, I encounter the error "An authentication error has occured, The local security authority cannot be contacted" when attempting to login using domain user account.

This error occurs at random time to random member servers, sometimes user A encounter the error, but user B can login fine, while both user A and user B are in the same OU and same security group in the domain.

Many times, we can only rejoin these machines to the domain, but in the long run that is not a viable solution, as it would affect the production environment.

Any ideas on why this happen? I can understand if all users can't login, but strange enough is, certain users can, while certain users can't.

PS/ all these machines are having the same SIDs, except the domain controller, because we deploy them based on an AMI which was created earlier, and we didn't sysprep after that.

X-ray Image acquisition on a Windows 2012 RDS server

We are looking into the option of acquiring/capturing images via a Windows Server 2012 remote desktop server.

We want to capture the images using various twain devices. Would we need third party software to achieve this? Just wanted to be sure there wasn't a simpler way to do this before using third part software.

Example of third party software:

Remote Desktop Services Web Access

I have installed the Remote Desktop Session Host and Web Access Roles on a brand new VM (Server 2008R2).  When I launch the Remote Desktop Web Access Configuration page I am presented with the following message:  "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I have configured the Digital Signature Settings to use a certificate assigned via the internal Certificate Server.  What am I doing wrong?

termDD (on Windows 2008 R2) issues continuously popping up

$
0
0

many reports of this on technet but no solution.  I wonder if there is a way to instrument the build to get more details on the reason for the errors and disconnects of the sessions.

My environment:

site A:

  • physical DC
  • physical mgmt
  • VMware (ESXi 5.0) server running multiple instances of Windows 2008 R2: Exchange (DAG with the Exchange running on VMware in site B), file server (DFS replication with file server running on VMware in site B), multiple Terminal Server instances (replicating using VEEAM to site B)

site B:

  • physical DC
  • VMware (ESXi 5.0) server running multiple instances on Windows 2008 R2: Exchange, file server, mgmt server, ...

site A and B are connected over Internet (30 Mbps) in a VPN tunnel.  Purpose - data replication for DR

All hardware is enterprise scale with lots of resources available.  VMware server in site A is a dual proc, 16 cores each, 96 GB RAM connected to external array with dual SAS.  Mgmt network - 2 NICs.  VM access network - 4 NICs.  All NIC teams are to a properly configured ProCurve switch (non LACP trunks).  All systems utilized at less than 50% peaks.  Firmware and drivers all latest and greatest.  Replication between site A and B - no issues at all unless network network disruption (rarely the case) - notification system immediately reports issues

Clients access multiple Terminal Servers (Windows 2008 R2) running on the VMware server in site A.  Each of the Terminal Servers experiences from 1 to 4 termDD errors per day (different times of the day on different servers) and drop client connections.  in 99% the binary of the event 56 is D00000B5 (The specified I/O operation on %hs was not completed before # the time-out period expired.) but occasionally D00A0006 (A close operation is pending on the Terminal Connection.) or D000020D (The transport connection has been reset.).  Clients run either XP or Windows 7 and are on latest mstsc.exe and with no "Desktop Composition" etc running.  RDP is un-encrypted and in its most basic configuration (Desktop Experience is enabled)

This thing is ridiculous.  The network appears to be tip-top (at the same time one client accessing TS1 is dropped while the other accessing TS2 is happily working with no perf issues).  We have tried many things including disallowing drive redirection (to eliminate potential issues associated with slower USB devices etc), moved certain TS virtual machines to dedicated VMware NICs, disabling replication between sites, ...  Same thing.  No changes. The standard MS solution of making sure network is OK does not appear to be applicable here.

I wish there was a way to turn more detailed debugging of what causes the termDD disconnects or maybe even changing the sensitivity of the disconnects - you think something is slow, OK, don't kill the connection, just keep going longer.

Ideas???

Thx much

Hi All,

I have an RDS Server with Load Balancing for three Terminal Servers. My issue is that when the users login and select a default printer it never sticks when they go back on the same Server. They are changing them on an on-going basis.

In my GPO I have already set "Do not set default client printer to be default printer in a session: Enabled

-I also have this set:

RD Session Host server fallback printer driver behavior: Enabled

Any help would be appreciated.

Not seeing any improvement from RemoteFX in test Server 2012 VDI configuration

$

I've set up a test Server 2012 VDI deployment (VMs assigned to users). The VMs are Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 (due to application compatibility issues with Windows 8). My setup consists of the following:

  • Physical Domain Controller server running Server 2012
  • Physical Hyper-V Virtualization Host server running Server 2012, which hosts the following VMs:
  • Virtual "Remote Desktop Services" server running Server 2012 (RD Connection Broker, RD Web Access, RD Licensing)
  • Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 workstation assigned to user
  • Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 workstation assigned to user
  • Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 workstation assigned to user

I've successfully got the VDI environment up and running. Test users connect to their Virtual Desktops through the RD Web Access site on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 workstations, and I'm connecting to my Virtual Desktop through a Wyse R10L thin client.

I'm not really concerned with the lack of Aero in the Virtual Desktops, but I noticed some slowness watching YouTube videos, dragging Windows around, etc. I did some reading on RemoteFX and decided I needed to try it out on a single Virtual Desktop to see the improvement. Because I'm running Windows 7 VMs, my understanding is that the Server 2012 software-based GPU isn't available (only to Windows 8 VMs).

Therefore, I installed an ATI Radeon HD 6450 in the Virtualization Host. This particular machine doesn't have onboard graphics, so I removed the existing video card (wasn't compatible with DirectX 11) when I installed the 6450. I enabled the 6450 for RemoteFX use in the Hyper-V settings, then added the Remote FX 3D Video Adapter to my Windows 7 VM in its Hyper-V settings. I set it to Max 1 monitor with Max 1920x1200 resolution.

I know RemoteFX is enabled, because I can now enable Aero when I connect to my Virtual Desktop. However, I've connected from a Windows 7 desktop, a Windows 8 laptop, and my Wyse R10L thin client. RemoteFX is enabled in all places, but I don't notice any performance increase. I've disabled the Aero theme so it's a fair test (as I don't want the GPU's possible improvements to go only towards transparent windows).

With RemoteFX, I don't notice any difference in dragging windows around, watching YouTube videos/visiting content heavy websites, scrolling, minimizing and maximizing windows, etc. I've disable and re-enabled the RemoteFX adapter on my VM multiple times and really see no noticeable difference.

I'm slightly disappointed, as I was hoping this would bring the experience closer to an actual desktop. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or tips on why I'm having this issue. My LAN is 100Mbps. Connecting via RDP directly to the VMs doesn't change the performance (compared to connecting through the Connection Broker through RD Web or thin client).

Thanks, I appreciate any help! If you need more information about anything, just let me know!

Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Services - Printer Redirect Problem on Mac

And, if I connect using the same software (Remote Desktop Connection Client 2.1.1 on Mac OS X) in a Windows Server 2008 the printers are redirected normally. Can anybody help me?

Windows 2012 RemoteApp: Drag/Drop between application windows

$

We have an application which normally installs on user computers/workstations.  We are looking to support RemoteApp based deployments (vs. standard RDP/TS) of the application.

We are in the process of testing our application under RemoteApp and we have encountered an odd problem.

There are a number of places within our application where users can drag/drop objects between *application* windows, to define relationships etc.

Under RemoteApp, however, the application receives drop commands (left-mouse release) as soon as the client cursor hovers over one of the open windows (most windows are drop targets), even though the user is still holding the mouse button down.

Needless to say, this causes issues -- drops occuring on wrong forms, users not being able to place drops within ordered lists.

Is this a known issue?  If there a solution for this?

Multiple monitors not working in RDS on server 2012

$

Hello.

I have a Windows 2012 server running RDS. Before RDS was installed a remote desktop session used all available monitors when 'use all my monitors for the remote session' was checked in the RDP client settings.

After I installed RDS the default session collection had a limit of 16 monitors that I was unable to edit. When I connected to the default session collection I could only get the remote session to display on 1 monitor.

I deleted that session collection, created a new one, and was able to edit the 'maximum number of redirected monitors' setting to the desired value of 2 but the remote session still only displays on 1 monitor.

If the session collection is set to 2 monitors and the RDP client is set to 'use all my monitors' why is the remote session only displayed on 1?

Thanks.

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

$

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

Server 2012 with Remote Apps installing on Windows XP machines

Hi everyone, I have a new Server 2012 that I installed the RDS services on.

How do I push out the Remote Apps to my Windows XP clients?

In the past I could use MSI files, but I read that Windows 2012 does not support MSI files now to push out remote apps.

I also read that I could use a GPO but that only works with Win 7/Win 8 machines?

On my SBS 2011 server if I go to GPO, I am missing the GPO entry for Win 7 and Win 8 to push remote apps.

User Config > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services -- I dont have the RemoteApp and Remote Desktop services entry here.

Windows Server 2012 Virtual Desktop Template Issue

Hi

I have created a two server VDI infrastructure using Server 2012 RTM I have one server hosting the RDS connection broker and RD Web Access roles and then a separate server with Hyper-V server installed hosting the server 2012 RD Virtualisation Host.  I am hosting Windows 8 VDI images on these servers

When I create the virtual infrastructure from scratch I can created a new collection hosting pooled desktops and everything works no problem.  The issue arises when I need to update the template and re-create all the desktops.  For updating the desktops I am following the process below.

1- Make a copy of the existing desktop and then start it up in hyper-v and make my changes

2- Run sysprep with the /generalise /oobe /shutdown /mode:VM

3- Go into my Collection on my connection broker server and run the recreate all desktops task

4- Select my shutdown VM syspreped in step 2

At this stage I get an error stating "The virtual desktop must be in a stopped state:  Could not identify the state of the virtual desktop.  Ensure that the RD virtualisation host server is available on the network and the virtual desktop is shut down"

I have looked all over for errors in the logs and found nothing.  It look connection related or maybe something to do with WMI but I have run connection test between the servers and everything is ok.  The only solution I have found so far is if I remove the RD virtualisation host from my hyper-v server and then reboot and reinstall it then works again.

Can anybody help as I am running out of ideas on this one.

Thanks

Custom enpoint enumerator problem(IAudioClient:Initialize() is failing with the error code E_ACCESSDENIED)

Hi,

I am developing a Custom Audio Endpoint Enumerator for a custom protocol as per the guidlines in the linkhttp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ee958171(v=vs.85).aspx

I have implemented all the end point interfaces given in the following link

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd379708(v=vs.85).aspx

I have created the end point DLL and signed the DLL with signtool.

I am facing one problem and explained below.

1) Client application get the IMMDevice interface pointer from the end point DLL i.e _pIMMDevice.

2) It calls IMMDevice:Activate() to get the IAudioClient.

_pIMMDevice->Activate(__uuidof(IAudioClient), CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER, NULL, reinterpret_cast<void **>(&_pIAudioClient));

3) Then client application calls initialize on the audio client interface

HRESULT hr = _pIAudioClient->Initialize(AUDCLNT_SHAREMODE_SHARED,
        AUDCLNT_STREAMFLAGS_EVENTCALLBACK | CLNT_STREAMFLAGS_NOPERSIST,
        _EngineLatencyInMS*10000, 0, _MixFormat, NULL);

problem is here. IAudioClient:Initialize() is failing with the error code E_ACCESSDENIED as HRESULT. I don't know whether this error is due to signing process or due to something else. I have checked the CodeIntegrity logs and I am not finding any error messages with respect to signing.

Please help me on this. I searched this similar issue here and I didn't find a proper solution and description.

I am reposting this issue in multiple forums to get the quicker response and different answers. Please forgive me.

Thanks & Regards,

Ramanujam

not able to connect to published virtual desktop in RD web access from internet, RD gateway is unavailable

Hello there,

Urgent attention is needed here-

I have one 2012 server runnning RD webaccess, RD gateway, RD connection broker and another 2012 server running RD virtualization host with HYper-v. I have published webaccess and gateway via TMG using the web publishing rule and allowed /* in the path. I can access RD webaccess URL from internet and can see the published desktops, but when I click on it it throws error-

Kindly note that I am using split namespace, it means my internal domain is the child of public domain. One thing I am getting confused.....when I click on published desktop....it gives me a untrusted verifier dialog box (I am using internal certs) and there i could see the RDgateway name as - RDgateway.internal.domain.com? shouldn't his be issue as this domain namespace is not public ...only "domain.com" is public and thus name resolution failing for rdgateway?

This is only my assumption as I have no idea how rd web access server redirects to rd gateway...??

Also sometime I can't login to rdweb access url..it keep prompting me for creds..?

Kindly note that I am using virual desktop pooled infrastructure and not using session based deployment. Thus I don't have RD session Host server, is this role still necessary if I am using virual machine based deployment?

Please help
